April 350 Blocks Report

Posted on April 30, 2022 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Here we are at the end of another month already! We’re having a long spring, which is fine with me, altho I could do with a bit less wind — it’s been super blustery here. And I keep forgetting to put my hair in a pony tail before I step out the door!

I ended up with a total of 121 blocks this month. Less than my last two months, so hopefully, I can step it up again during May.

Here’s some of what I worked on . . .

I made 26 blocks to complete THIS quilt.

I finally finished the last seven 36-patch blocks, and am now setting them together!

I’ve been working on my Vintage Melons. I made a baby quilt that counted as 5 blocks, which I hope to show you soon, after I’m sure the mommy has it and has seen it first.

I made 16 blocks for my Mad Dash quilt. Here are some of the pink ones:

And then a bunch of random stuff — 4-patches, 9-patches, and HST blocks. But sadly, no Pineapple blocks. I’m seriously behind, and hope to use May to get caught back up on them.

I’m also dangerously close to having all the blocks finished for my Temecula Log Cabin quilt, so that should give me a boost if I can finish those up this month!

OK, now it’s your turn — what have you been working on? Did you make a lot of blocks in April?

I have the Project Page updated; our new total for May is 31 blocks for a year-so-far total of 135.

The March prize winner is Karen E. She’s up to 472 blocks already!

We’re doing great as a group this year so far. I’m proud of us. Don’t forget to post some photos in Christopher’s FaceBook group if you have some you’d like to share.

And please double-check your totals on the Project page and let me know if I’ve lost any numbers. I did lose a couple and caught myself, but if there are any I haven’t noticed, please let me know — I’d hate to cheat anyone out of a good total, and besides, if I miss any, it hurts our group total, too, so I’d hate to hurt that!

If you’re just now finding us, and want to join in, it’s never too late. Just let me know, and you can jump right in, and I’ll add you to the page. You can go back to January 1st and count any blocks you’ve made so far this year, so don’t think you’re behind — we’d love to have you!

  2. Sharon Gratz says:

I completed no blocks in April. I started one, but didn’t get it completed. 🙂 I am so hoping May will be a kinder month for us and I’ll be able to do some sewing.

  3. Carissa says:

I was able to do more block sewing than I expected. I finished 78 blocks and have a top ready for assembly!

I’ve been creeping along with my hand piecing. Added a few more Cross blocks in April, bringing my year total to 53. Nearly enough for a 42”x48” wall quilt. How many more? It’s design wall time…

  5. Amanda M. says:

I created 66 blocks for 4 different projects. I should’ve had more but life got busy through work and trying to dodge the rain. I am done with calving so that is good. I’m wishing we could have a normal weather year; I’m afraid come June or July’s new moon we’re going into a drought. I really hope I’m wrong. I’m also tired of the wind as it cuts right through me.

  6. Sally H says:

110 blocks for April, from 6 different projects. I’m working on a fun baby quilt, another bricks twin quilt to assemble, and also a rail fence twin.

  7. Beth says:

I completed 5 blocks this month

  8. Karen E. says:

I made 139 blocks in April. I’m counting 50 1.5” hsts which almost seams like cheating, but I count very complicated blocks as only one. Great job on your count, Shelly! Thanks so much for my gifts won in the March drawing—I’ll be watching the mail!

  9. Paula M says:

Bummer I have to report zero! It’s been a busy month with family, sciatica down the right leg, 2nd degree burn to the left heal which abscessed! Trip to Arizona to visit with my daughters travel ball coaches. Road trip home with BFF. Spending MAY Day recovering! Lol!

  10. Linda Knight says:

I got a little more quilting time this month. I made 42 blocks and quilted and bound 4 small quilts. Rose Marie and I donated 4 quilts and 6 pillow cases from the Hands of Friendship guild to foster care in Searcy for foster parents to pick up when they get a new child in their care.

I’m taking a week or so off to spend time with my daughter. Which will include sewing and a road trip to the SR Harris fabric warehouse in Minneapolis. 🚙

Worked on a WIP for a friend I started a couple years ago. Unfortunately, several ideas had to be remade. Put me down for 29.

  27. Beverly V. says:

149 in April for me. I have 4 tops that I need to sandwich and have one sandwich and need to finish it. However, in May hopefully I will be able to work on a baby quilt as she is already here. I also would like to work more on my memory quilt. I need to add borders and then the blocks to hang down. Also hoping to get some English Paper Piecing blocks cut out, so I can learn new quilting techniques and be able to take on the road.

  28. Shirley Guier says:

I finished 3 quilts this month! An Angel quilt with 21 blocks, a herringbone at 40 and a one with 30. Total of 81. Two of those don’t have blocks so I made guesses.

  35. Ginabeth says:

I had 79 blocks this month. I needed 44 hexies for a quilt so I strived for 1 a day in April. Actually made 32. Hope to make the others this month, but I need to add a border before the hexie border to make sure I have the colors spaced.

Thank you for keeping our block count. I use your tally sheet to keep count. I write which blocks I make because I jump around projects.

  36. Joan says:

I worked on ten different projects this month, completed two of them–a table topper and a baby quilt! Completed 27 blocks this month–I count a day of hand quilting as a block too! I’m enjoying watching the progress you are making on your Churn Dash quilt. Thanks for keeping us motivated!

  37. Christi Bentley says:

I finished 159 blocks this month………some more 4 patches, some log cabins, and then some random blocks for smaller projects. I was trying to use up leftovers from large projects.

  38. Tanya says:

I am like you in that I have plenty of projects going on at the same time! That way when I get tired of making something I can make progress on a different project.😁 I made 180 blocks this month. Most of them are my Mad Dash blocks. I am finishing up my Chicken Salad blocks for Lori Holt’s quilt along, as well as blocks for Moda Blockeads 4 for a QOV, and Riley Blake’s block challenge for a QOV. One of my favorite color palettes is red, white and blue so I make Quilts of Valor. I appreciate you having this block challenge to keep me motivated. Happy May!

  39. Marlene Clausen says:

71 blocks for April. Pieced a QOV, keeping me on track for 1/month this year. Also, needed to piece a couple test blocks for a couple projects. Can I leave well enough alone ??? Nooooo. I can’t just piece a block from scraps. I have to choose fabrics I can make into something. Sew, 3 pineapples blocks (blocks that LOOK like pineapples) became a finished pillow cover and four large double bowtie blocks are a finished table topper. Meaning the quilt top that was supposed to be a finished quilt is not yet pin basted.

  40. Rose Marie Smith says:

I made 51 blocks this month. Moving right along.

  41. Randy Menninghaus says:

176 for me. My sewing machine and my pants were on fire for the month of April. Oh, and I went to two retreats totally 7 days of retreat time.

hope everyone has a great May and happy quilting

  43. Cindy Wienstroer says:

I was working on cutting & sorting scraps so only got 51 blocks done. Hope for more progress in May.

  44. I have 150 to add this month…thanks to a retreat and a separate group sew day!!!

  45. 47 blocks for April. Not a huge number, but I’ve been working on UFOs that all have only a few blocks remaining. They are mostly large blocks with lots of pieces, so they take time. I’m at a steady pace and happy with that.
I love seeing what you’re working on!

  46. Barbara W says:

I finished 40 more 9-patch blocks this month bringing my total to 131. Only need a few more for my project but will make extras to have for color placement and some pillow shams. Am so ready to venture on to something different!

  47. Diana S says:

Trying this one more time and this time I will hit the post button! the first 2 weeks of April I spent purging stash. Still have more to go through but there will be a lot of boxed fabric heading to our Linus chapter soon. Also went through long forgotten purchased kits. Some of those are heading to Linus as well. They do a silent auction in the Fall. The last 2 weeks I got to sew. Made 60 blocks from 3 jelly rolls. Yes from my stash! One was from a pattern I saw on Pinterest, another from a very old strip club Four Squared pattern from Cozy Quilts(2007 or 2008) and the last one from a free pattern that my friend Susan S. sent me. Called Jelly Roll Sizzle from the Fat Quarter Shop. So all in all 60 blocks! Am happy with that. Now to get the tops together and on to more blocks! Hope to have more to report for May. Will see!!!

  48. PattiK says:

Only 2. Had more life than fun for the month .. lol.. PattiK

I made 23 blocks this month. A lot else happened so I was pleased to edge over twenty. I love seeing the Mad Dash blocks you are making, the pinks are so pretty. I’ve used contrasting colours for churn dash in the past and I love the effect of your different tones.

  55. You had a very productive month! I love seeing your Mad Dash blocks. I’m very tempted to join the QAL, but have too much going on right now.
I ended up with 135 blocks for April.

  56. Paula Mu says:

I had 52 blocks this month. I made lots of different types. 3 Riley Blake, 8 Secret Life of Color (pink), 2 Spicy, 1 Sherry McConnell, 3 Moda Branching Out, 6 Blockheads 4, and 29 Mad Dash blocks. I have a very long way to go on that. Thanks again Shelly for organizing this. It really is a lot of fun. I hope your arm is doing better.

  57. Debbi says:

I made 43 blocks! Very surprised…thought I wouldn’t many blocks this month since I was gone half of the month. Didn’t hurt that I had to hurry and make a quilt for my dog sitter who is retiring. I had started it many years ago at a retreat but had only cut it out and made a sample block. It was fairly simple so I was able to get it done! Longarmed and bound too…when I set my mind to something it can be done! That was 25 blocks, 9 temperature blocks, 1 sampler block and 6 spring fling blocks. And two chicken scratch embroidery blocks while traveling. Not too shabby.

I started zoom sewing with a friend a few mornings a week plus my all day Sat zoom sews…things are making progress! Gets me off the screens and being productive. Hoping to make it a habit😊

  58. I can’t believe it’s May already. Well done on your block count. I made 84 this month.

  59. Raewyn says:

Your block count was very good! And I love how your churndashes are looking! My count for the month was 25… I’ve realised I tend to make blocks that take a lot of work! Never mind, it’s all progress 🙂

  60. Delana says:

I made 4 Show Me Star blocks for the Highway 36 Trail quilt from 2021. Hopefully May will be better.

  61. Clara says:

19 blocks to report for the month. 2 mystery quilts are in the finishing stage and occupied most of my sewing time.
Gardening in the Spring takes a lot of time and effort. I live in a community where yards are inspected for weeds, and so…lots of weeds were pulled in anticipation of the inspection. Now, several of my shrubs are in bloom and I truly enjoy walking in my yard. Hope you are enjoying a beautiful Spring in Missouri. I miss the dogwood’s blooms.

  62. Kathi Benchley says:

Zero blocks for me in April… life just got too busy!

  63. Celia says:

  65. cathy karinen says:

I made 69 blocks for April.

  66. Deanna says:

April brought 65 blocks for a total of 345 this year. Hopefully a few finishes in May, too.

  67. katie z. says:

I’m not sure I reported last month, but I’m back! My total so far for the year is 1276 blocks. After this month, I’m going to slow down tremendously as I will be out of triangles for my tiny blocks. That’s okay.

  68. Michele says:

I wound up with 76 blocks in April!

  69. Still practicing with the new Lucey so I only got a whopping 2 blocks (QOV) in for April. Finished your book, finished the first two quilts on the LA so things are getting done! Just not blocks…for now.

  70. Ceil Podzimek says:

I am envious of all the blocks being made by everyone else! I did 15 blocks this month, all for purses for our guild’s upcoming events. I am almost through with them and then I can start on my sister’s petunia quilt!

  71. Stephanie says:

I decided that in April I was going to try and make a dent in my short strip/string ends. I ended up with 159 blocks (plus some part blocks not counted), and two empty containers! Woohoo.
Sorry for the tardy reporting in.

  72. Barb Roberts says:

I managed the last 6 feathered stars in April. Sorry for the late report, crazy month here. Barb
