One of the four in-progress quilts is ready for quilting, and the other three are moving right along. Since no one has applied for them yet, I don’t feel too rushed to get them finished, but they will be wonderful once they’re done! If you know of a group that needs a quilt to use as a fundraiser, please let them know that they can apply HERE to receive one of the quilts to use in a raffle or auction to raise money for their organization.

There are currently four more quilts under construction for the project. If you belong to a group that wishes to apply for a quilt to use as a fundraiser, click HERE to fill out the application.

Quilt #3 has found its new home! It earned its money for Room at the Inn in a rather roundabout way. In the words of the event organizer: “We did put it up in the online silent auction but decided it would not get what it deserved in that setting. Therefore, we gave it to one of our major donors in recognition of her twenty years of very generous support. In addition to her previous sponsoring of the event, she subsequently made a $5,000 donation that evening! I would say the quilt brought in a lot of money even though it wasn’t ‘technically’ sold for that amount.” That works for me! I’m calling it a $5000 win! That’s gonna help a lot of mommies and babies!

We also received some more neckties, and a $50 monetary donation that was instantly used to buy more of the interfacing that is used to stabilize the neckties.

I’ve also received several inquiries about what I do to the ties in order to use them in a quilt. Years ago, I wrote this article that explains what happens to the neckties when they arrive here. You can find out all about “The Retirement Life of a Necktie” HERE.

And now — on to the next quilt. We have two more quilts in the works.

Quilt #2 has been successfully raffled off. It raised $4010 for the Greensboro Woman’s Club in North Carolina! I am beyond thrilled that it made so much money for them to do good things with. They are a very active club with lots of worthwhile projects going on.

Quilt #3 should be finished by the end of March, and it is also heading to North Carolina to benefit a pregnancy center. I’ll fill you in a bit more once they have it.

This must be the summer of decluttering, because the ties keep rolling in. I also had a discussion with a kind donor named Nan about how the dress codes have changed lately! Nan’s donation pushed us over 7000 ties collected, and while I certainly don’t need any more, if you simply can’t find another place to donate them, I won’t say no. I’m trying to work a bit faster to turn them into quilts. I think I have enough to keep me busy for a long time — that’s a lot of ties!

Quilt #2 is just about finished, and will be wending its way to its final destination within a week, so I’ll post photos and more information on that real soon.

Quilt #3 had a potential home, but its event once again got cancelled due to Covid, so when it’s finally finished, we will have to find another place for it to be sent. Ideas are welcome. If you are a group that fundraises for charity, you can apply for a quilt to use as a raffle or auction quilt to make money for your organization.

Ties keep coming in, even tho I had originally thought I’d stop collecting when I got to 5000. But I hate to turn them down if you can’t find another good place to send them, so I haven’t said no to anyone yet!

I’m happy to report that we have confirmed recipients for two of the four large quilts that are currently under construction. I’ll provide more information on that closer to donation time. At least, this gives me a deadline for completion, so maybe I’ll work a little faster!

Another donor gave me the seed of an idea to create some smaller projects from tie fabric to create some items that can simply be sold so that the money can be donated, so I’m also working to get that going. More on that later as well.

A kind donor sent not only ties, but a monetary donation, which was used to buy some more of the interfacing that goes on the back of the ties to prepare them for use in a quilt. That helped out a lot! Thank you, Pat D.

Well, we passed the 5000 mark on number of ties received! I said I would quit collecting when we got to that number, until we got them mostly used up, so I’m sort of not taking in any more. However, if you have ties to donate, and simply can’t find another place to send them, we will still take them, simply because I hate to see them go to waste. And we have used a lot of the ties, and will keep on doing so.

I’m about ready to show you the next quilt that’s closest to being done. I’m trying to step up efforts this year to get more quilts done faster. We’ll see what happens. Time gets away from me.

Sadly, the Relay for Life event that we were planning to donate a quilt for has been cancelled due to COVID-19, but we are hoping that it will go forward next year, so we’re still planning that donation.

We have collected enough Christmas ties that a Christmas quilt is in the planning stages.

And there is one other very unique and special quilt underway that I will reveal later on.

We’ve received several more donations since my last update, keeping us in plenty of tie fabric.

April 28, 2020
More ties keep coming in. There are now 4 quilts underway!

November, 2019
We’ve received several more tie donations throughout the year, and one more quilt has been started. One of the quilts we are making is earmarked for Relay for Life and will benefit the American Cancer Society. I’ll keep you posted on that.

January 1, 2019
Last quarter saw a few more ties come in, and a few more blocks created. I’ve been working way too slowly on this project over the last couple years, so my hope is to step it up greatly this year. I’m anxious to get these next two quilts finished to donate!

October 1, 2018
We received a few more shipments of ties over the summer, and quilts #2 and #3 are well underway.

December 27, 2017
A HUGE shipment of ties arrived from a group in Idaho and Utah. They held a fundraiser to raise money to help local children at Christmas using the ties, then donated the ties to the Project to be turned into quilts to raise even more money.

Keep an eye out real soon for news on the next two quilts being finished to donate. And if you’d like to help make blocks, just give me a holler!

First Quilt Donated
The first quilt made from the Necktie Social Project was donated to the Macon County Relay for Life, and auctioned off at their annual fundraising auction. It’s a traditional Bow Tie quilt, and the pattern is available free HERE.
