February 350 Blocks Report

Posted on February 28, 2022 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

So how did you do in the short month?

I guess I did more sewing than I thought, because I ended up with a total of 185 this month!

Here’s a bit of what I worked on:

I joined in the #perfectpineappleqal on IG, being hosted by Amber at Gigi’s Thimble. I’ve had this quilt on my list for a looooong time, but kept procrastinating on getting it started. I bought these things years ago, and they’ve just been languishing in a drawer:

Amber’s announcement of a sew-along for the pattern was just the boost I needed. We only have to do one block a week, and so far, I’m keeping up. Block 4 will be finished today, just in time to start Block 5. Two of my good friends are also doing this one, so that’s helping keep me motivated as well.

I’m not a fan of paper foundation piecing, but this is easy foundation piecing, so I can handle it. I made my first two blocks wrong, and had to re-do the corners, but I’m on track now, and think I will absolutely love this quilt when it’s finished! That Lollies fabric shown above is what makes that little black line in the corners, and it adds so much!

I’ve also been doing handwork of an evening in my chair, when the cats will allow it, and when I’m not so tired that I can’t even thread a needle (trying to get my arms to work just wears me out some days!). And I finished Block 6 of my Daredevils quilt! This quilt should have been done over a year ago, and here I am, barely at the halfway point.

But I’m working toward lots of finishes this year, so I forge ahead. Most of my block total came from 4-patch blocks. I have several quilts I’m making 4-patches for, and sometimes all I could get done was sitting and feeding pieces through my machine, so I got a lot of them made!

So what did YOU get done in February? I’m astounded at the fantastic start to the new year — some of you had so many blocks just in January — I hope we can all keep that up!

Also, if you want to post photos of what you’re working on, you can do that in the Facebook group that Christopher has set up. I have loved seeing what you’ve posted so far! I still need to declare a goal — I’ve been holding out on that, waiting to see what the first couple months brought me.

It’s time to report in with your February totals. I have the Project page updated as of this morning with all of last month’s totals. Our new block goal for March is 31 blocks for a year-to-date total of 74 so far.

January’s prize winner is Megan. Megan made 96 blocks in January! A fine start.

I’m excited to hear from you — happy stitching in March!

Oh no! February is over, and I only made 18 blocks this month. My total is 44 so far. Better pick up the pace in March.

  2. Randy says:

    Wow I too had 44 blocks…

  3. PAULA M MO says:

I expect to do more today….just like about every day in February…I have a grand total of 6.

  4. Ceil Podzimek says:

My total for February is 25 blocks, so I’m starting to move along a bit since the start of the year. I made 15 blocks working on a t-shirt quilt for my sister, 4 blocks to finally finish the last quarter panel of my quilt along, and 6 blocks which will become 6 zipper bags for friends and family.

  5. Christine says:

February was way too short. Only made 20 four patch blocks.

  6. Ginny says:

Not getting much piecing done for Feb. 16 blocks. Piecing a back for the Kool Kats quilt from last month, top is finished and it is slow going on getting a 69″ by 94″ backing from the leftover from the top. Good way to use up the left overs and not add to the piles of left over fabrics.
Still getting knitting done. More Dish clothes and close to done with a vest for my daughter.

  7. Debra Freese says:

71 for me in February. Quite an assortment of projects.
9 blocks for Scrappy Sampler sew along hosted by Jessica Dayon.
6 Dresden Plates made from vintage fabrics
10 Bow blocks to complete the Daylesford quilt. Pattern by Jen Kingwell from her Quilt Recipes book.
20 Wensleydale blocks from the same book.
26 Diamond Exchange blocks. Again from Quilt Recipes book.

  8. Louise says:

I was on a pineapple quilt kick a few years ago and ended up making three of them. Enjoy the journey. I made 158 blocks this month.

  9. Kathy says:

Did a virtual retreat with my girlfriends. I lovked myself in my studio for 3 days only coming out to eat and sleep. My count for the month of February was 145. Best month so far.

  10. Maxine E says:

I did not sew too much this month! 38 blocks completed. I went on a girls’ trip with my SIL to see my MIL. Had a blast. But it took me a bit to recuperate from said trip! LOL! Getting old is not so fun!

  11. Celia says:

I made 74 blocks this month. I finished five quilts and they went to Project Linus. Time to stop and put away stuff before I move on.

  12. Tanya P says:

I was busy making 150 blocks this month. I may have signed up for too many quilt alongs and block of the months! I enjoyed making a red, white, and blue Plaid-ish quilt for Quilts of Valor. I am also having fun making my 🐔 Chicken Salad blocks. Thanks so much for the encouragement to stay focused. Tanya P.

  13. Stephanie says:

I went retreating again, and sewed up a storm!
    170 more blocks for February!

  14. Barb Roberts says:

I managed 6 feathered star blocks, each with a jillion pieces. Thanks, Barb

  15. Paula Mu says:

I am posting a bit earlier this month. I have actually done a lot of sewing this month – 185 blocks. I had 43 blocks with my Together quilt, 4 w/ Spicy, 3 Riley Blake blocks, 11 Branching Out trees, 2 Sherry McConnell block of the month, 70 In Stitches blocks (a Fat Quarter Shop project), 17 Secret Life of Color blocks and finally 35 Flapjack blocks. I have watched a lot of TV as I sewed and I expect that will continue next month.

  16. Barbara B says:

I completed 213 blocks in Feburary.

  17. Amanda M. says:

I made 75 blocks for 6 different projects in only 7 sewing days. I’m not quite sure how many charity quilts I quilted this month though. Now that it has warmed enough for us to enter Mud Season I’m back in the timber cutting up tree tops leftover from logging. I love the smell of White Oak sawdust as it brings back childhood memories! March production on sewing will probably suck.

  18. Fran says:

Made 90 blocks in February. Hopefully, I will make more in March.

  19. Phillis Harding says:

For my February quilt blocks I decided
To sew through my fat quarters. I
Cut them up and managed to sew 473
8 1/2″ churndash blocks. I am going to
Take the rest of the fat quarters and
Cut into 2 1/2″ squares and work on
    9 patch blocks next month.

  20. A little better than last month, but not that great. I had 15 for February. Better luck in March!

  21. Mary D. says:

I had 178 blocks for February. 80 of them were bear’s paw blocks that I have been working on between other projects and got most of the half-square triangles made and trimmed in January. 36 were sampler blocks for the Sewcialites quilt by Fat Quarter Shop. And 50 were small double 4-patches from a UFO I’m working on. A lot of 2-patches were already made before this month, making it fast to get to the block stage. Plus a few other random blocks for other projects. Lots of piecing going on, and not much quilting. I can see March being more of a quilting and finishing month.

  22. Joan says:

86 blocks done and one quilt top finished. Beautiful workmanship on your Daredevils quilt block. Fun to see!

  23. Carissa says:

    Your pineapple blocks look great!

This wasn’t my most productive month, but I did get 43 blocks sewn. At least I have pieces of quite a few more in progress as leaders and enders. I know that I’ll get a big boost once those are finished.

  24. Bev C. says:

I knew my count would be lower this month because I was finishing off unfinished quilts. I ended up with 50 blocks and I was so surprised when I added them up. But I did put together blocks that were made and put aside. Ended up with 8 lap quilts for different charities, sized from 36 x 48 to 45 x 68. All sandwiched, quilted, bound and ready to find a new home. Happy, Happy.

  25. Linda Knight says:

My incentive this month was to make a quilt for a new great grandson to be born in August so I actually got all 50 pieced blocks done this month and have the rows together. My total for Feb is 91 blocks and I quilted and bound 2 quilts. I finally made that trip to the nursing home with 6 quilts to donate that Rose Marie and I made.

  26. Sally H says:

I completed 193 blocks in February, some easy and some fussy.

  27. Wendy Tuma says:

Only 37 blocks for me this month. Seems like I was busier than that!

  28. Barb Magruder says:

I managed to get 42 blocks done in February!

  29. Diana S says:

I had planned a block sewing marathon-need another baby quilt. But the plan didn’t work out. Discovered the girls groomer was out of scarves! Can’t have pups leave scarfless!!! So this past weekend was a scarf sewathon!!! 39 this weekend and a total of 66 for the month of Feb! Too bad they don’t count as blocks. I did get 16 blocks made for a We Care project. So plus 16 for me. I am loving your pineapple blocks

  30. Christi Bentley says:

Love your pineapple block. 121 for me in February. I did some more on the Ruby Jubilee mystery, some fish school leader/enders, some 4 patch leader/enders, blocks for my guild challenge, more ladders for Bitcoin, the blocks for Kitty Corn, and some more Woodbury Way blocks. I also spent some time working with my collection of half square triangles trying to turn them into table toppers and pillows.

  31. Susan S. says:

I love your pineapple block! I made 8 hug blocks, and 37 churn dash blocks of varying sizes for a total of 45 blocks this month. I did see other things, clothes for the grands and a bunch of matching hair bows. But the blocks are my therapy.

  32. Tonia says:

This is a 30 block month—more than I had expected! And one graduation quilt is totally finished. That is Exciting- I am notorious for getting gifting done at the last minute, so this is amazing!

  33. Sorry to report a big fat goose egg for this month – 0 blocks completed. 🙁
Too many long overdue home projects going on this month.
However, I have a well-deserved quilt retreat in March, so planning to remedy this number then!

  34. KT says:

29 blocks for me, mostly for the Springtime at Arrow Rock sampler–I am loving it!

  35. Marsha Parkhill says:

82 blocks for me. This is a lot for me so I’m not sure how long it’s going to last.

  36. Sharon Gratz says:

I did a lot of sewing but only 29 blocks. Sewing on buttons, hemming suit pants…….getting ready for granddaughter’s wedding in a couple weeks. And, still playing with the Easter Egg Tree wall hanging. 🙂

  37. Delana says:

My February total is 18 blocks. I have sent most of my sewing time attaching borders.

  38. Peggy says:

I surprised myself by actually sewing this month! Put 2 pieced borders on my UFO “Out West” quilt, and made all the blocks for the “Plaid-ish” quilt…even managed to sew some of them together into rows!. Put me down for 71 blocks.

  39. Beverly V says:

I managed to meet the goal of 28. Working on scrappy blocks to use scraps. Need to cut some more scraps to be able to use up fabric. Also able to finish another step on my memory quilt. Hopefully I can finish the quilt top this month. Then I have to make the back of the quilt. Also have two tops and backings finished.

  40. Marsha Y. says:

Wow Shelly you have been busy! Love your blocks. I got 56 blocks done this month. I am working on a quilt started about two months ago and another one I pulled from UFO stash that was started 11 years ago. Hopefully, at least one of them will get done this month.

  41. Melissa Pagliai says:

I had 89 blocks in February. Hope to have more than that in March but we’ll see!

  42. Marlene Clausen says:

The pineapple block has to be my favorite quilt block and it was the first one I ever made. I signed up for a QAYG placemat class at my local quilt shop in 1990. It cost me $80 (+ an addiction +a quilt shop!). No paper piecing and I still have my pineapple ruler and have made several pineapple quilts.

My block total for 2/22 is 40 (I was hoping for 22 or 222!!)

  43. Judy Sovereign says:

Well managed to crank out another 150 blocks. Been enjoying all my sewing time.

  44. ChristieB says:

I managed to make 113 blocks in February! I started a new project on Feb. 1st – a kit I picked up on a shop hop I went on the week before – it is a wedding quilt for my daughter and her husband who have been married now for 6 years!!! Right now, it is at “the spa” getting quilted. I also worked on blocks for another quilt. HUGS… and stitches

  45. Kathi Benchley says:

I really put the pedal to the metal and completed 225 blocks in February. Now I need to go and do all that stuff like cleaning, that I ignored!

  46. Barbara W says:

I only completed 16 Blocks this month. Better get busy in March!

  47. Raewyn says:

Well done on your tally! I made 15 blocks in February to add to the 20 (unreported) blocks for January. Who knows what this month will bring!

  48. SharonG says:

    sharonG
I have zero blocks this month– I had some health issues(nothing major) and some dental issues (I call my dentist “the only man that can hurt me”) but, did manage to make myself a stuffed unicorn and long arm 2 quilts– so no regrets!

  52. Darlene says:

My Feb total is 53. I made a lot of scrappy 8” hexagons, kept at my 2” scrappy 16 patches.
So many projects in the works I need to complete a few next month.

  53. Michele says:

108 this month. Making a bunch of heart blocks with bonus pinwheels helped the total along nicely.

  55. Debbi says:

I love the pineapple blocks! Now you’ve got me determined to start one from my scraps🤪

I did fairly good for Feb – 2 nebula blocks, 25 temperature blocks, and 71 leader-ender blocks ready to put together. So 98 total.

I also quilted and bound two quilts; a large lap and one wall hanging. Another queen size quilt also got quilted and is trimmed waiting to get binding. Not quite meeting my goal of quilting one/week but closer than I’ve been.

  56. My count for Feb is 163; total for the year is 400. I have noticed that some people are listed as a hyperlink, I think to their blogs? If so, to update mine it is: http://livelylatte.blogspot.com/
    Thanks! :o)
