100 Things in 100 Days

Posted on September 22, 2021 by prairiemoonquilts in Challenges

It doesn’t seem possible, but as of tomorrow, there will only be 100 days left in 2021. Each year, I make a list (well, several lists) of “100 Things To Do in the Next 100 Days”. I keep all my lists in this book:

I always make one list starting on January 1st, a second list starting somewhere in the middle of the year, and the final list always starts on September 23rd. It’s fun to see how much I can get done in the final 100 days of each year. I’ve been doing this since 2009 (the same year I started blogging).

I don’t make it easy on myself, either! And I think my highest record is 37 things finished off my list — that’s not very good. But I keep trying, because without the list, I might not try as hard.

So I’ve made my list for the last 100 days of this year, and I have to say this list was the hardest one I’ve ever had to make. It’s very difficult right now to judge what and how much I’m gonna be able to do with my arm so disabled. I’m feeling very discouraged; yet still hopeful, if that makes any sense at all.

What will YOU do with your last 100 days of 2021?

Do you have things you’d like to finish?

Things you don’t want to carry over into next year?

Stuff you need done by Christmas?

Just wanna make a list for fun?

I try to work on something on the list every day. Sometimes it’s easy for me to decide which one I want to work on. Some of them just get finished by default. Other days I let Random Number Generator decide for me — haha! (Decision fatigue is a real thing . . . so is complete overwhelm.)

You can read more about some of my past lists at the links below, if you need ideas for your own list:

100 Days, 2013

100 Days, 2018

100 Days, 2019

100 Days, 2020

My lists are always completely quilting and studio related (with maybe a bit of knitting and embroidery thrown in), and here are a few of the things on my list this time:

  1. Finish my Limerick quilt top
  2. Host the Maple Leaf quilt-along
  3. Work on my Yo-Yo quilt
  4. Finish my Signature quilt top
  5. Re-cover my ironing board

So how about YOU? Got any ideas?

Oh, and before I forget, if you’re on Instagram, @devotedquilter is hosting a “WIPs-B-Gone” challenge for the final 100 days of the year. Because of my broken wing, I’m not joining in on this, but if you want some accountability, some fun printables, and a way to break it down for yourself, go follow her on IG, and get in on her challenge HERE!

And before I go, a quick broken-wing update, since so many of you have been checking in on me (thank you so much). I got my cast off on Monday! I thought I would be happier about that than I am. The cast is gone, but my arm does NOT work well at all. I have only about a 6-8″ range of motion, and with the cast gone, it no longer feels stabilized and protected. And the pain has come back, now that it can flop around like the shriveled-up useless appendage that it is right now.

I have exercises to do three times a day, and it hurts so badly to do them, I get nauseous from the pain. By the time I’ve recovered from the nausea, it’s time to do them again, so my days have not been going too great this week. I’m still supposed to wear the sling part time, simply to give my arm muscles a break (but I am sleeping better at night, thankfully). Let’s hope that in the next 2 weeks (my next appointment time) I make lots of range-of-motion progress. This is a long, unpleasant road I’m on — I’m trying to keep a positive attitude!

I’m getting PT now for back pain and my therapist tells me the exercises should not hurt. I realize rehab for a broken body part may be entirely different, but I was also told this when I was doing PT after my hip replacements. I’d ask my therapist about it. Therapy-nausea-therapy-nausea is awful! Thinking of you and hoping for an excellent recovery.

So sorry for all the pain you’re experiencing. Even though you probably don’t want to hear this, I’ll say it anyway. Do everything you’re supposed to and for now don’t worry about what you can’t do. Easier said than done I know. Prayers for progress for your wing!

Your list got me thinking maybe that is the motivation I need to get some quilting marked off my list. I give it a try in the new year.
I do hope the pain and nausea get better as you work on your therapy. Just take it one day at a time.

I am so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain with your PT exercises. Hopefully in 2 weeks things will have improved. I can’t wait to start my 100 things in 100 days list. That should be fun! Thank you.

So sorry to hear you are still in so much pain! 😢Hang in there!

The 100 things sounds like a good idea. I’m going for it. Thanks too for the link for the wip challenge, that’s a good idea too and maybe I can get my butt to catch up 🤪

Oh my, Shelly—it’s never ending isn’t it? I had forgotten the end of year 100–we all seem to have sad tales: I started the month with a “Mercy Mission” with GGrandBaby Girl…came home with Covid. YIKES My Wonderful Cowboy makes a great caregiver, I am blessed. He is nursing a back hip thing so it hasn’t been easy, but we have isolated me as much as possible. I know I am better because today I searched out my new Lori Holt books…So the quilting “want to dream “ is back. There must be a sickness scale for quilters—I didn’t even look at the fabric catalog that came in the mail..oh my! I fear my list will be very similar to last year. Top of the list: Finish Grad quilt number 1, next in line: Grad quilt #2. I did get some things finished this year, but not as many as I had hoped. Praying that your arm rehabilitation goes much better than you can possibly imagine.

Sure hope your pain subsides quickly!

So hard to believe that we’re so close to the end of the year! As for my list…. Yikes is the only thing that comes to mind. The list of stuff I didn’t get done over summer is long. I hate to think about what I need to do before January 1, 2022.

Sorry for what you are going through with your arm Shelly. Take it one day at a time. I’ll pray for your fast healing.

  10. Joan Ferguson says:

Bummer about the pain and nausea…but keep doing those exercises. They will help you get back to “normal”.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having so much pain. I hope by now (I’m behind in reading emails) it’s getting better for you. Be kind to yourself and try not to be disappointed. You’ll get there.
