Six Finishes

I’ve finished six projects this year already! (Seven if you count the Fingerless Mitts I made for my sister.)

Here’s my 36-Patch, finally finished! I completed this top in February of 2012, at a guild retreat. It has languished in the to-be-quilted pile for SEVEN years!

It’s from a quilt-along by Amanda Jean at Crazy Mom Quilts (click HERE to find it — it’s called 36-patch quilt-along). It was great to use up scraps.

So great, in fact, that I may make another one to use up even more scraps, because it’s so easy and fun to do!

I put plain white on the back, because I had it in my stash, and it’s very soft. I quilted it with a bright green thread in an all-over grid that criss-crossed each square.

At one of our guild retreats that happened to be going on when it was National Sew-a-Jelly-Roll Day, I donated 8 jelly rolls to fellow guild members, and we had a jelly roll race at the retreat. I don’t know who stitched up this top in the race, but I finally got it quilted and bound:

Again, I had a good piece for the backing in my stash, and I just quilted this one with an all-over meander.

Then there were two quilts that I made from my scraps in January of 2017 that had been languishing in the to-be-quilted pile for TWO years (lots of my quilts seem to get stuck at this point). Both of these are the same pattern, made from a pattern by Amanda Jean at Crazy Mom Quilts. The pattern is called Straightforward, and you can find it HERE. I made one with red, blue, and tan scraps:

And one with a mix of brights. This one is fresh out of the dryer, so it’s all crinkly and lovable already.

And at a previous guild sew day, also a couple years ago, I had made this wheelchair lap quilt, and finally got it quilted and bound.

And while digging through my scraps, I found a bunch of pretty floral squares already precut, so I added some other scraps to it, made some four-patches, and whipped up another wheelchair lap quilt while I was at it.

As you can see from the photos, I just put an X in all the squares and rectangles on these. Super fast and easy quilting so I could get them done. And then I washed and dried them all, so they’d be ready for giving and be all crinkly and wonderful and soft.

And, with the exception of the 36-patch quilt, they’ve all already been donated to my guild’s Comfort Quilt stash so that they can be handed out to someone who wants or needs them. I’m so happy to have them done!

And since I told myself that if I wanted to start something new, I had to finish 3 things first, this means I can start 2 new things, right?

Well, one of those things was the Hospital Sketches BOM. And oddly, I haven’t picked anything else to start yet, because I’m trying to choose very carefully, and therefore, I can’t decide! If I stay busy enough, I think I can put it off a little longer, and maybe I’ll get even more projects finished before I start another. That would probably be the wisest decision!

I enjoy looking at your projects & reading your blog. I’m recouping from a total knee replacement surgery & this is one of the things that has helped me forgot my aches & pains!

All great donation quilts! I’m interested in your giter done quilting on these. I’ve recently given myself permission to do some of that and they look fine once they are done and laundered.

You have been busy and accomplished a lot! I have been dragging and not sure why. I’m going to blame it on the weather! I always seem to have trouble in the winter when I should be getting lots done. Glad to see someone is moving right along!

    Great work!

    Your quilt colors are lovely.

I may have to start cutting my scraps for a 36 block quilt and the Straight Forward quilt…..clearing out my scraps is one of my goals this year.

    Thank you for the inspiration.

Love your progress! What a great sense of accomplishment accompanies great finishes. One of my goals is to become more proficient at quilting on my machine at home so I don’t have things out at the quilter for such a long time. I appreciate the work they do, so don’t mind the cost so much, and we have few in the area so they are busy and the wait time is often 6 to 8 weeks. I have three tops on the pile to be quilted and am working on machine quilting orphan blocks as I go–it is good practice, but I have created another pile—–oh my, that isn’t on the list for the year! For information, how large do you make wheelchair quilts? I so appreciate that you take time to send answers to our posts!
