Orange and Blue Simple Chain

Another finish from this year — when I chose this color combo, I didn’t realize exactly how much I would love it, but it really turned out great! And I was just trying to use up scraps and stash!

Just as I did for THIS quilt, I made this quilt from one of the blocks in my Sew Sweet Sampler BOM, this time using Block 3.

I set the blocks with alternating blocks of the background fabric to form the chain design.

It’s so vivid — I really surprised myself with this one! I need to get it washed, and take some better photos — our weather has not been conducive to outdoor quilt photography for quite some time.

I made 72 blocks, and my quilt finished at 55″ x 65″, a good couch size.

I wasn’t planning to custom quilt it, but when I loaded it on the frame, it just called for it, so here’s what I did. I quilted a flower in a square in each plain area, and outlined all the orange patches with ditch stitching. It was easy, and I think it worked better for this particular quilt than the pantograph I had been planning to do.

The back is various coordinating blues from my stash, pieced together.

Everything in this quilt came from my stash — I need to keep doing that!

Here’s all the nitty gritty details . . .

Simple Chain Quilt:

Finished size: 55″ x 65″
Pattern: Block 3 from Sew Sweet Samplers (72 blocks, set with alternating plain squares)
Fabrics for top: Scraps from my stash with blue Moda Weave for background (also used for binding)
Backing: Various blues from my stash, pieced together
Batting: Quilter’s Dream Poly Select
Thread: Superior OMNI #3108 Royal Blue
Quilting: Custom quilting by me
