October 350 Blocks Report

Posted on October 31, 2021 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Another month done gone! Whew! Happy Halloween!

I had a busy month. I managed another 55 blocks to add to my count!

I made some more Maple Leaves, I worked on Stitch Pink blocks, I made more 9-patches, and I worked on my Limerick quilt. I have all of one type of block made, so I’m nearly half done:

I also remodeled my entryway, which was not easy to do left-handed, and I even made curtains for the window, but they don’t count as blocks. I can only hope November will be as productive, even tho I’m still operating mostly with only one arm. I AM back at the longarm, much slower than I was, but it does feel good to be back to somewhat normal. Healing takes time, and there’s no quick or easy way around it (she keeps repeating to herself daily).

So how about you? Did you get lots of sewing time?

It’s time to report in with your totals for the month. I have the Project Page updated as of this morning.

Our new block goal for November is 30 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 319. We only have two months left to go this year!

The prize winner for September is Maxine. She’s up to 284 blocks so far. I think we’re gonna have a great group total this year!

I hope you all get a stitch-full November!

October was my slowest month for this year with 37 blocks. But, still far more than any previous year with a current total of 854. Between becoming an empty nester and the pandemic, there has been a lot more sewing time.

  2. Diana S. says:

I managed 53 blocks this month. 48 for a quilt for a friend’s new baby. Then several online quilt friends decided to make another quilt together as a quilt along. Off to a slow start but the first 5 are made.
We finally got our trees taken care of this month. Had to watch that. They brought in a truck with a bucket to take one tree down. It was badly damaged from our storm in February. Unsafe for climbing. We used to trim our own trees but gave that up about 15 years ago. Not good to do at our age!

  3. Stephanie says:

A set of 48 Heartstrings blocks, and two quilt tops constructed in rows totaling 28 rows, so 76 blocks/block equivalents this time.

  4. Sally H says:

A total of 26 this month, including 15 X Christmas blocks, 5 placemats and 6 rows assembled.

  5. Amanda M. says:

I only created 28 blocks for 6 different projects in October. I was very happy that I got 3 of my quilts completed and gone this past month. I also got a customer quilt quilted and a charity quilt quilted in October. I’m hoping November is a good productive month in both piecing and quilting. Glad to hear you’re back to the long arm!

  6. sharonG says:

    70 blocks this month!!!

  7. Ginny says:

56 blocks for October. Big thing for me was I finished 8 projects. Some were from the beginning but 4 were quilts that only needed binding done. They had been sitting waiting for binding. Several were gifts and they are all mailed and arrived safely.
Glad you are progressing on your healing and getting back to what you like and need to do!

  8. Coralie Wallace says:

I did not finish one block in October. My plans for the month just went out the window. I did start going through the sewing room, sorting and unloading shelves and making plans to change and rearrange things.

  9. Wendy Tuma says:

70 for me this month – more than I thought I had! You’ve managed to get quite a bit done with only one arm working 100%!

  10. denniele says:

You accomplish so much with one arm! Amazing! I finally get to count my temperature quilt. The block total for the month is 452. 🙂

  11. 98 blocks in October. I have a couple of quilts ready to quilt and need to finish those quickly.

  12. Ginabeth says:

59 is my total for October. Hope you are improving!

    Have a great Thanksgiving!
    Ginabeth

  13. Pam Desilets says:

Hi all! I was able to quilt 6 quilts on my longarm and still get 54 blocks done. Happy seeing for November!

  14. Suelynn Williams says:

Happily, 11. I’m glad to know how well you are healing. I enjoy seeing your blocks.

  15. Louise says:

I was very productive this month. Of course, I had to be because I foolishly decided that this year and next are the years to make a bed sized quilt for each of my eleven grandkids. Two of the girls are 10 years old, and both love cats, so they are getting quilts from the same pattern, just different colors. But, I forgot that one of them has a queen size bed. That made for a LOT of 6 inch blocks. My total for the month was 209.

  16. Cathy Wight says:

Put me down for 112 blocks this month. Thanks.
And thank you very much for drawing my name last month for a wonderful prize!

  17. Fran says:

So glad you can work on your long arm again even if you are working slower. I am working on Stitch Pink blocks this afternoon. In October, I made 157 blocks.

  18. 10 blocks. Not much but no time to sew. I keep thinking I’ll catch up next month, but so far that hasn’t happened. We still have two months left……

  19. PAULA M MORGAN says:

I have nothing! Except piles of soon to be blocks. ( not cut, just piles of fabric…) Good work everyone else!

  20. Sharon Gratz says:

October’s count is 36……it isn’t over the top but I’m ok with it. I didn’t get to the quilt retreat I was looking forward to as the office chair I use at the sewing machine and I had a confrontation and ended up on the floor all tangled together. No broken bones, but the chair won. The plastic chair mat got removed from the floor. Glad to hear you’re healing good, Shelly.

  21. KT says:

I finished 30 maple leaf blocks, plus 5 others for a grand total of 35 in October. I’m trying to finish up some projects and using the maple leaves as my reward because they are so fun!

  22. christopher thomas says:

it was a slower month for me as well…..but i did get 285 blocks done and 3 quilts sent off to be quilted……not for sure what i am doing with them when they get back but will figure that out when they get here….

    happy quilting everyone….

  23. Rose Marie Smith says:

I made a 122 blocks this month for community service projects. I am using up bins of leftovers if at all possible. There was an additional 36 blocks for a William Morris fabric use-up. I am trying very hard to use up leftovers and fabrics that have been waiting in my stash for a long time. My total is 158. Here we go to the end of the year,

  24. Kathy Parks says:

Not a lot of quilting for October but managed to squeeze 36 blocks.

  25. Maxine E Euto says:

27 blocks for me. still working on the same two quilts! had a mini vacation in Atlantic City in the middle of the month. and a big surprise this month getting my name drawn! Thank you Shelly!

  26. Karen E says:

111 blocks for me this month, for a YTD of 1350. I’m amazed at all you accomplished in October, even with a broken wing. I hope your healing goes quickly and you’re soon good as new!

  27. Beverly V. says:

Again it is zero, I am back home after being gone about 90 days. When I got home, had a lot of work to get done to settle back in. Redoing guest room (sewing room). Cleaning out to put sewing cabinet in the room, so I can easily transform the room from sewing to guest room quickly, but hopefully will be able to sew more. Need to finish a few quilts, then clean out fabric (making scrappy quilts). Looking forward to getting back to making quilts.
Glad you are hear you are healing and getting a lot accomplished.

  28. Debbi says:

Well I think I did pretty good to get 45 blocks made, but WOW some people have been very busy! Great to hear that you are back on the longarm Shelly! I’m on vacation till mid November so short month next week for me. I have 5 Christmas quilts to make, but I may be too optimistic! Wishes for continued healing!

  29. Tonia aka Ima Grammi says:

Congratulations to all of the busy participants! All I can claim for September and October is 17 groups of 4 units each for the sashing for a Graduation Quilt for one of the Grandsons..Had a little trip down Fall Flu lane that kept me busy—-or not busy in the quilt room. But I feel like I am back on track finally…My Mr. Wonderful says that two things told him that I was much better—I started looking at quilt sites and planning again, and I asked him to help me start moving furniture in the living room!!! Smart Man! I join the others in wishing you swift healing, you amaze me with all you got done with one arm.

  30. Crystal F says:

    I only made 24 blocks…but I put 4 tops together. Feeling accomplished.

  31. Cindy Wienstroer says:

You have done alot with only one arm fully working! Glad you are healing. I loved making maple leaves so ended up with 88, did 11 fish l&e’s, and 5 pinwheel blocks.

  32. Joan says:

18 blocks completed. One quilt hand quilted… It is a Halloween Quilt that I had worked on for many years in October! Also a couple to tops finished. I’m looking forward to some machine quilting soon as Winter approaches and there is less yard work to do!

  33. Christi Bentley says:

74 for me…………some little leaves, fish blocks, table runner, and pieced sashing and border for a quilt, and a couple of pillows.

  34. Marlene Clausen says:

72 blocks for October making blocks for two quilts. One is a QOV top from the book “Fresh Fat-Quarter Quilts” by Andy Knowlton. I want to make almost every one in the book! With the number of FQ’s I’ve accumulated, it might not be that difficult. The second top I pieced was a UFO that had been hiding out for ages (years). All cut, never pieced. Waiting on a black batt (says arrival 11/3) so I can baste it and get it under the needle later this week.

  35. Ceil Podzimek says:

I finished 28 blocks this October – the last 24 blocks for my guild’s BOHO heart quilt along and 4 blocks for my guild’s project with Latifah Saafir’s Put a Ring on It, which will be a large floor pillow.

  36. Julie M. says:

October was a slow month for me. Two blocks for me. So glad to hear that you are getting back to your long arm. I hope to be more productive this month!

  37. Debra Freese says:

    45 in October.
40 of those blocks were for 2 tee-shirt quilts that are totally finished. 4 are sample blocks for a quilt I am considering. Then there is a “trip” mini that I don’t know how to count, so I’ll just say 1.

  38. Becky Cogan says:

Great to hear from everyone. I got 2 quilts together. My block count is 35. Keep us going Shelly.

  39. Shirley Guier says:

I’m not keeping track very well. I did finish Feathered Hills with 80 blocks and Lorettas Garden Sampler with 14 blocks so that gives me a total of 104 blocks.

  40. Shirley Guier says:

That was suppose to be 24 for Loretta Garden Sampler

Ninety-one for October. Mostly nine-patches, a turkey block and a few others.

  42. Judy Sovereign says:

    Judy

I had a pretty good month:
    October 188
    YTD Total: 779 Blocks

  45. Darlene says:

I have 20 bear paw blocks & a sashed border w/ 12 tiny nine patches. TOTAL 32 for October.
So glad to hear you are healing even if it is slow going, you are managing as best you can. Don’t be to hard on yourself what you can’t do just heal.

  46. Paula Mu says:

I had 49 blocks this month. 32 Springtime blocks, 6 snowmensew along w/ Jacquelyn Steves, 1 Happy Everywhere, 9 Autumn Jubilee, and 1 Patchabilities top. Not too bad considering how busy the month was.

    251 blocks in October

  49. Marsha Parkhill says:

6 blocks for me this month. More quilting than piecing going on.

  50. Linda Knight says:

Once again I have done very little in the sewing room. I managed 18 blocks and quilted and bound 3 quilts. Just took 7 to the nursing home to donate to the residents.

  51. Marilyn Holder says:

Total for October: 90! Did not realize I had been so busy until I totaled the list. Includes 5 leaf blocks made from scraps; thanks for pushing me to start this block.

  52. katie z. says:

I made 91 blocks, bringing my total (revised, again) to 691. My migraine medicine makes me wretchedly tired, so I didn’t get nearly as much sewing time as I would like!

  55. Carissa says:

Those green blocks for your Limerick quilt are fantastic!
I sewed up 26 blocks for October. But I am headed to a quilt retreat in November, so I expect to make good progress this month!

I have 56 for October: 16 leaves, 20 from a jelly roll experiment, and 30 little stars from an ongoing project. So glad to hear you’re back to quilting.

  57. Christine says:

Wow – so inspiring to read about all these blocks being sewn! I’m finding sewing time harder to find now that more of the groups I volunteer with are meeting again. I have finished a Bargello wall-hanging for my friend and made 17 blocks as well so, for me, it’s been quite productive. Glad to hear you’re able to do more even with your broken wing!

  58. Clara Chandler says:

Hello, Shelly, Good to hear the news about your recovery. This month I have 21 blocks to report. I can
also report that a Halloween project was completed and in the hands of the recipient before the holiday!
    Enjoy a grand Thanksgiving!

  59. Pam Martin says:

    65 blocks for October.

  60. Randy says:

well I thought that I posted my numbers…. old age. I threw the note out but I believe I hit 43. I am assembling , assembling all the blocks so that slows me down.

  61. Randy says:

huh… it didn’t take my note… I shall try again 43 for me.

  62. Oops, it looks like I missed a month! I ended up with 62 blocks for September and 132 blocks for October. According to my tally, that brings me to a total of 1284 for the year.
I’m glad to hear that you are recovering well and able to do more. I know how frustrating it can be when your actions are so limited.

  63. Oh boy! I had high hopes for October with a retreat in it. Well things didn’t go to plan and I ended up sick. So all I mange for October was 8 blocks.

  64. Barb Roberts says:

    Hi Shelly,
I managed 15 blocks and five purses this month. I know, the purses don’t count but they were fun!! Thanks, Barb

Sadly, no quilt blocks for me in October. ‘Been busy on Christmas gift making. Your green fabrics are so pretty.
