Stitching Pink in October

Posted on October 2, 2021 by prairiemoonquilts in Quilt-Alongs & Bees

It’s once again Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Last year, I participated in Moda’s Stitch Pink Quilt-Along, and made this quilt (which I still don’t have quilted yet):

Moda is hosting Stitch Pink again this year, altho this year it begins on October 15th and runs for two weeks. This year’s quilt is very cute, but I have chosen instead to repeat some of last year’s blocks this time. I’ll be repeating my favorites from last year’s Stitch Pink event using these fabrics:

They’re from an old line from Windham Fabrics, called “Project Pink” by Rosemarie Lavin Design. I’m using a solid white for my background.

Instead of making 30 blocks, I’m only making 20, and adding sashing and borders to bring it up to size. I seriously doubt that I can make one block a day this time, so that’s my plan for this year.

If you want last year’s Stitch Pink patterns, you can find them all HERE.

I’m once again doing this in honor of my dear friend, Cindy, who I lost 2 years ago to breast cancer.

Both of my quilts, when finished, will be added to my guild’s stash of Comfort quilts, to be given to someone in need, should the occasion arise. I’ll keep you posted on my block progress this month!

Love your fabric pull! What a great way to honor your friend’s memory.

Beautiful fabrics! It will be fun to see the finished quilt.

You must be feeling better to commit to 20 blocks. Elbow must be mending. Good memories of your friendship to do a quilt in her honor.

Love your pink fabrics. Remaking your favorite blocks sounds good to me. Looked at this years pattern & like your idea better. My stitched pink fabrics for last year are still not block one cut. Maybe if I can find it that would be a great project to do now

Will make one in honor of my niece who beat the big C
several years ago. I’ll sent it to the oncology unit.

Gee, I should be doing this quilt. I was diagnosed with IDC in June, had a lumpectomy in July and now on treatment. (No chemo or radiation, so VERY fortunate). It’s hard for me to even identify as a cancer patient. I like your blocks better but I just don’t need any more new starts. Have to give it some more thought…
