May Studio Organizing Challenge

Posted on May 15, 2019 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio Organizing Challenge

Well! I’m seriously failing at the organization thing so far this year. I got off to a good start, but then it came to a screeching halt (right around the time I ran over My Cowboy with my truck — ahem).

I did go through a lot of paper last month, but it was all in drawers, so it didn’t make a difference in my visible piles. However, getting the file drawers cleaned out is the first step in being able to put the paper in the piles away, so I’m calling it a baby step in the right direction.

And, I’ve been doing a bit of traveling, so I haven’t been home to tend to much. Thankfully, My Cowboy has recovered enough that I can leave him alone for a few days at a time, so he can take care of my goats while I’m gone (also ahem)!

In spite of the fact that I haven’t done much on the last few challenges, I’m back to offer yet another Studio Organizing Challenge this month, and hoping that I can catch up (because I really, really need to be doing all these things myself right along with all of you).

This month, our challenge is to:

Clean out a drawer or a cabinet

Just as with the paper, cleaning out the drawers and cabinets (and closet spaces) needs to happen first, before I can put away the things that are laying out with no place to go.

I have two of these lovely cabinets, and after I get them clean, they suddenly become a dumping ground for things I don’t know what to do with, till they’re all messed up again! (That’s just me, right?)

So, I’m taking the baby step of cleaning out the top of this one this month — just the top section above the drawers you see here — which is a big enough undertaking to start with, given the mess it’s in. I’m not home, so I don’t have a before picture to show you right now, but I’ll try to do before and after photos when I tackle the project and show them to you next month.

Do YOU have a cabinet or drawer (or closet) space that turns into a dumping ground?

Is this something you need to work on, too?

Who knows? — we might find something we’ve been looking for buried in the depths of the mess!

Leave a comment and let me know what your challenge is in this area, and what you’re choosing to work on, so we can cheer each other on . . . and good luck with your organizing efforts this month!

So glad Cowboy is doing better. Yes, I still have several spaces that are “catch-alls” and need to be organized. Several family members are ill, so they must come first.

Had not read this until today… Great picture, but hope the goat is only playing and not really stuck… I tackled batiks in totes for a batik project I started in May and was able to empty one of them completely. However, I went to a garage sale yesterday and what was there–more batiks!!!

I really worked on cleaning off my cutting table….after I searched for 3 days for a ruler I had misplaced! I corraled a lot of paper into pile but was only able to file a few things away. Will keep picking at it. My cutting table has stayed pretty clean good thing Ifolded down one half to minimize the dumping area…keeping it clearer for cutting!
