March Studio Organizing, Task Two

How did that 2 weeks go by so fast? Maybe it was the time change?

I feel like I cleaned and organized so many projects, yet my table was still full!

I finished EIGHT wheelchair lap quilt tops. They’re only 36″ square, but still, they used up lots of pieces and I also prepped backings and bindings for them, so you’d think that alone would have cleared some space. But no . . .

I finished the Pink Petals baby quilt top and prepped its backing, and that didn’t make a dent, either. You can see it (and get the free instructions) HERE.

And I finished putting this Comfort quilt top together, which used up a pile of scrap squares and a panel from my box of panels:

Still the table was full, and the project count had crept up to 25 — unacceptable!

So I had to get tougher on myself. I had to actually box some projects up and store them elsewhere. Hopefully, this will not deter me from working on them, but will at least give me some room to work. I have a large customer job coming in soon, so I’m trying to get ready to tackle that when it arrives without having to overhaul the studio before I can even start. What? Me, being proactive? I know — it’s a shock, for sure!

So here’s the state of my table as of this morning:

That stack of quilts on the left only needs the bindings whipped down, and then those will all be done and out of here! I also need to get caught up on my pineapple blocks. But my list of projects laying out went from 25 down to 12, not counting those that just need the bindings whipped down — I’m leaving them there to force myself to get it done.

So it feels better, but could still use more improvement. The photo shows what a mess my 12 current projects creates! I only chose the ones that are closest to done and the ones with definite deadlines to leave out, too. I need to get sewing! My goal has always been to have 5 or fewer projects out at once, but I’ve never reached that goal yet. I’ll keep trying. The real test will be not replacing finished projects with other ones, until I get the number down!

And I know what our next task is going to be:

Clean out a drawer

I have a drawer full of . . .  let’s call it notions and accessories . . . that needs to be re-organized. It’s full of stabilizers, interfacings, random bits of other things, cross-stitch supplies (which I rarely do any more), and the drawer also needs to be repaired. So . . .

I’m gonna empty it out, go through it all, fix the drawer, and hopefully put it all back nice and neatly organized, so that I know what is in there, and can find it when I need it.

How about you?

Do you have a drawer that is causing you grief? This should be a simple task — just one drawer. We can surely handle that, can’t we?

That panel quilt is a great idea! Well done!

So I had a virtual workshop on Saturday, and I needed to make my space look decent. I moved all the clutter to the guest bedroom – LOL. Does that count? No? I did do a little cleaning of a drawer this morning, took a bunch of precuts out to send to a friend for a giveaway. Not sure that counts either, but it feels good 🙂

Ooh, your table reminds me of the 2 project boxes on my cutting table that have been there for at least 2 years without being touched…and one of them has 2 partially completed pillow cases.
Definately need to get that off. I just totally don’t even notice them anymore.
I have several drawers that can use a straightening and decluttering of things no longer useful to me. Thank you.

I actually have my drawers organized. It helps that I only have the drawers on the cabinet of my great grandmother’s Singer treadle sewing.

I have a rolling cabinet with three drawers that is…stuffed. Since those drawers come out, I can sort/refold while watching TV with the house spouse.
