Brunswick Forest, Block Three

It’s time for Block Three of the Brunswick Forest BOM! Are you in on this one? If not, and you want to be, you can still get signed up at Sew Sweet Quilt Shop. Just give them a call at 660.548.3056, and they can hook you up. Or join their FaceBook group HERE, and join in on the scrappy version quilt-along. Or if you just love the little leaves and want to do a bunch of those, all the posts for the Maple Leaf Quilt-Along are still active (and free)!

Here’s Block Three . . . it’s called Beech Tree, and you’re getting a break from the triangles this month! This one is made from squares.

Here’s the Fall version:

The non-traditional version:

And the scrappy version:

This month I used a busy low-volume print with cherries in it along with my greens for the scrappy version. I guess mine is a cherry tree instead of a beech tree!

Here’s a version made with lovely batiks. Candice said she researched beech trees, and found out that the European Beech tree is purple, so that’s what she did with hers! I love it.

And Shirley is moving right along with her scrappy version as well. She has three blocks done, and a bunch of cute little maple leaves ready!

Did you know that each tree block is in its own setting within the quilt, so you could actually start working on the setting at any point during the BOM? If you’re doing any of the settings shown, you’ll need a lot of low-volume scraps. I talked about those in last month’s post, if you need more info on what they are.

Since you’ll need quite a few, this month I’m doing a give-away for a small bundle of them. This bundle contains 8 different fat eighth low-volume pieces (each 11″ x 18″) — it’s the equivalent of four fat quarters, but gives you more variety!

All you have to do for a chance to win this bundle is leave a comment on this post. Also, you do not have to be participating in the BOM or the quilt-along to be eligible — it’s open to anyone, so no worries. I will draw for a winner on the 17th.

UPDATE: The winner of the LV bundle is Debra Freese! Thanks to everyone for playing along!

I hope you’re having fun building your Brunswick Forest quilts!

These trees and leaves are turning out beautifully !!!

Hoping a jump into the Christmas fabric will spice up my enthusiasm level! Have a number of Christmas projects pulled, so will choose one and see what happens. Gray skies, lots of rain, and a cold that hasn’t decided if to become a full blown one or go away are all contributing to my slow getting with it mode. Would be thrilled to add to my very low neutral fabrics. My recent sewing room cleaning and rearranging fabric pointed out just how low those neutrals have gotten. Happy to read you are healing while being aware of overdoing.

I need these! I never have pretty low volume prints!
    Love the trees.

  5. Beverly says:

I have not started any maple leaves, but I want to. What a way to use scraps.

    Always love the neutrals!

I really like working on these trees. I think I used some background that is too dark but oh well…
I was wanting more variety. I usually get the values too close together and this time I think I got them too far apart. I’ll love the quilt anyway!

NEVER have enough low volume – your selection is perfect! (Still on first tree-crazy month!)

  9. Judy Smith says:

I got sidetracked with a Halloween quilt but want to start again on my leaves. They are still on my display wall, calling my name.

I detest winter, but I have to admit I’m (kinda) looking forward to (a few) days when I can stay inside and just sew without (m)any outside distractions. Thanks for offering the drawings. You work is beautiful as always.

Please enter me in the drawing for the low volume bundle! Thanks!

  14. I’m not in one this one, wish I was but no time. Great fun though watching your three versions plus seeing what some of your readers are doing. I love the low volumes in these blocks…started collecting low volume fabrics in 2012 and try to incorporate them into nearly every quilt I make 🙂

  15. Sandra Richardson says:

Love the low volume prints, good ones are hard to find..
