Brunswick Forest, Block Two

Posted on October 11, 2021 by prairiemoonquilts in Brunswick Forest

Once again, I’m having trouble keeping track of the days, and I completely missed that last Saturday was second Saturday, and I was supposed to talk about Block 2 of Brunswick Forest! So here we are today instead. Better late than never, I guess!

Block Two is Pine Tree. There are two different methods for finishing off this block, depending on the setting you’ll be using. Both methods are outlined in the pattern instructions.

Here are the three color versions . . .

Traditional fall colors, rust and green — so fall-ish:

Non-traditional, navy and gold — also sort of fall-ish:

Scrappy, green and orange:

For my scrappy version, I used green as my main tree color, then chose one other color to go with it each time — this time it was orange!

The background fabrics for all three of these versions are what quilters are currently calling “low-volume” prints. In the traditional version, I used creamy low-volumes, and in the non-traditional version I used low-volumes that are more white/gray. In the Scrappy version, I used low-volumes that have more color and are even more busy than in the other two quilts. There are so many options!

If you’re unsure what low-volume prints are, or how to choose them and use them, here’s an article I wrote about them a while back, and in that article is a link to an article by another designer that explains it even more: Low-Volume Fabric.

If you’re needing some low-volume prints for your Brunswick Forest quilt, Sew Sweet Quilt Shop has wonderful bundles for sale in their shop, so give them a call at 660.548.3056 and have them send you one! You can also get signed up for the Brunswick Forest BOM if you aren’t yet — it’s not too late to jump in on this one.

And . . . they are also hosting a quilt-along in their Facebook group HERE for the Scrappy Brunswick Forest, so you can join in there as well, if you want some accountability and a chance at some prizes, and to see what others are doing! Jessica has posted her first block, and it’s lovely!

The link to the free setting instructions for the Scrappy version can be found in this post HERE. (But you’ll also need the pattern booklet, too, available only at Sew Sweet.)

And the Maple Leaf Quilt-Along that’s happening right here is still going on. I just published another layout option this morning, and there’s a give-away, so go get in on that.

I hope you’re having fun making trees and leaves for your own Brunswick Forest so far!
