13th Annual Final Countdown

Posted on December 28, 2021 by prairiemoonquilts in The Final Countdown

Lucky 13!  Who’da thunk this would be so popular and last so long!? I do know that I still need it. It’s such a great feeling to start off the new year with things all organized and fewer projects hanging over my head.

What with the regularly scheduled Studio Organizing Challenges, I once again made some good progress around here, but wow! I have a lot of stuff! And a lot of stuff to still deal with!  How about you?

Some of it just takes time to do, especially once you’ve gotten the easier, quicker stuff off your plate, and the hard stuff is all you have left to deal with. Harder decisions, actions that need to happen (and they always take longer than I estimate), and simply finding the time to work on it at all, given the daily interruptions that life always throws our way. But I’m not giving up.

I’ve chosen some organizing tasks for myself for the next three days, and as usual, I invite you to join me in trying to whip our sewing spaces into shape so that we can start the new year off with a clean(er) slate. Are you in?

You’ll have to check back over the next 3 days to see what the tasks are, but I can tell you right now what I’m NOT including this year:

  • • No cleaning off the main work surface task
  • • No dealing with the fabric stash task

It’s not because I don’t need to do those things, but I have now established regular rules and habits for dealing with these two, so I’m leaving them out to make room for other Final Countdown tasks this year — ones that I am still struggling with, or procrastinating on. So . . .

If you’ve joined me for The Final Countdown before, I’ll be super thrilled if you are joining in again!

If you’re new here, welcome! I hope you’ll join in this time, as we try to get a fresh start on 2022 in our sewing spaces.

Here’s how it works . . .

  • • Beginning tomorrow, I’ll post a task for us to do each day for three days in a row; a different task each day.
  • • Your job is to do the task, if you so desire (totally optional). If it’s not a task you need to do, then you can pick any task you feel fits your situation better, and do that one instead.
  • • After you’ve done the task, leave a comment on the post that you did it, and how it went for you. If you want to write a blog post of your own and link back to it, that’s great — we all love stories, and photographic evidence! If you’re already so organized that you don’t even need to do the task, you can still leave a comment to be eligible for the prizes.
  • • I’m offering up a prize for each task, so be sure and leave a comment for each task that you complete. You’re only eligible for the prize for that task if you did the task and left your comment (or left a comment that you already had it done or didn’t need to do it). I try to make the prizes something that will help you with organizing, or things that you can use up, so as to not cause you more clutter or disorganization. If you do all three tasks, you’ll have three chances to win. How many you choose to do is completely up to you. Easy!

I’ll give you till January 7th to complete all the tasks and leave your comments. I’ll draw for the three winners late in the day on the 7th. That should give you time to take a good crack at all three tasks.

So there you have it — simple rules, and prizes!

I’ll post our first task tomorrow, so be sure to check back in. Or if you’re not subscribed already, you can subscribe to the “News From the Ranch” using the form at top right, so you’ll automatically be notified when the tasks are posted.

Are you ready?

I will try to join. I have so much stuff, stash, unfinished projects etc. to deal with and so little space, it’s kind of hopeless but worth a try to better the situation.

I always look forward to the final countdown. Since I am still finishing up a Christmas project (I guess it will be the first finish for Christmas 2022). I am not sure how much I will get done this year—One thing I want to do is look at last year’s plan and see if I accomplished very much—I know Oda May’s summer camp from forever ago is still on my “this has GOT to be finished this year list—Looking forward to the new things to organize that you have come up with!
So, Let’s go girls and boys and see if we can get our tasks done this year!

I’m hoping in a couple of months my new sewing room will be completed! We recently had windows in the house replaced and someone (very kindly as I had been ill) boxed everything, emptied my sewing space and put the machine down in the table. Shelves are still neatly stacked but I can’t wait to get my mojo back in a new room! Then I’ll be going through my accumulated goodies with a fine toothcomb as I move everything into a nicer area to work in.

Thank you for doing it again this year. Glad you don’t have to put fabric away but as I pulled out a lot that needs to be put away bummed it won’t count!!

This sounds like so much fun! I’m already focused on taking in threads on a bound project and finishing one last binding in the next 3 days. These will be good to thread a distraction into the To Do list!

I am going to try to do all the tasks this year. My sewing areas are all pretty messy.

  22. Beverly V. says:

Thanks for your motivation. My sewing room is clean, but after Christmas other things need to be done, so I can start the new year with a bang and be able to sew. I have a few UFO’S I want to finish also, at least one in the next three days. Count me in.

  23. Kate says:

Since I finished two quilts last week that I volunteered to make for someone TWO YEARS ago I feel able to tackle any new task. Will see what kind of follow through I have.

Sounds like fun & the motivation I need! Generally my areas are “pretty” tidy, but we all know there is room for improvement, lol. I’m new here and look forward to this. Thanks sew very much!! I love your writing style too😀
