Two More Weeks!

That’s all the time you have left to get to Winterset, Iowa, and see Victoria Findlay Wolfe’s Retrospective exhibit: “Playing with Purpose”.

It’s at the Iowa Quilt Museum in Winterset, Iowa, right now, and it’s a wonderful exhibit. I really wanted to go see it while it was hanging because I quilted several of her quilts that are hanging there, and let’s face it, that’s the only way any of my work is ever gonna be in a museum!

So My Cowboy took me up there on June 29th to watch her give her presentation on “Creativity and Play”.

The museum had these great posters, so I bought the ones that had pictures of quilts I quilted, and Victoria and I both autographed them — haha!

We had a lot of fun, and I ran into several people I knew, including Jody Sanders, the editor of American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine. We had our picture taken all together:

I also got to meet and make some new friends. There’s a great quilt shop just a few doors down from the museum: Piece Works Quilt Shop. I got to meet Joyce, the owner, and Tony Jacobson (the manager) and his wife, Jeanne. And I might have purchased some fabric!

The museum is so nice. Completely aside from the fact that Winterset is an absolutely charming town with a lot to see and do, I really want to go back when I have more time to spend and when there’s another exhibit to see at the museum, and also do some more shopping at Piece Works Quilt Shop!

Meanwhile, Victoria’s exhibit is there until July 29th — two more weeks — so if you haven’t gone yet, you still have a chance to go see it while it’s there — it’s a fun trip! You should go!

I’ve never been to Iowa! I’m so glad you got to visit the museum. It’s an honor to be represented in the show with your quilting. The posters are colorful!

  2. Winterset is a very cute little town. I haven’t been there for a few years, but had visited the Fons & Porter shop on the town square several times when I was traveling to and from my parent’s house in western Iowa. I think it has changed hands a year or two ago, and may now be the shop you were at while you were there. I would love to see this exhibit, but am not sure I will be able to get there before it is gone, sadly!

I just realized I was going to sign up for a workshop with her in September up here. Hmm. It might be full by now. So tempted to take this road trip!
