Many years ago, when I had a job other than quilting, we would have a staff meeting every Tuesday afternoon. I won’t go into my true opinion about said staff meetings, but I will say that I used to get in trouble for doodling during those meetings. And that is where this quilt design was born from!
It’s one of my very earliest published patterns, and I recently decided to update it with new fabrics, and I changed the borders a tidget. So here is the newest version of Tuesday Afternoons:

It’s two simple blocks, when put together, make a lovely pattern.
My sister then told me the story that when she and her husband were first dating, the only time they both had free was Tuesday afternoons, so that’s when they would have a date! So she had to make her own version of this quilt, naturally.
My sample quilt is queen-sized, but you could very easily make it larger or smaller. My sister and I, and my friend, Rose Marie, have made several versions in all different sizes. I’m getting ready to make a few more in a smaller size, so I thought this was a good time to re-introduce the pattern.
The pattern is available in my Etsy shop in a PDF version.
Here are the Tuesday Afternoons sample quilt details:
Finished size: 82″ x 102″
Pattern: Tuesday Afternoons, by me, which you can purchase HERE.
Fabrics for top and binding: I used prints from a line called Veranda by Timeless Treasures (from 2017), but there are lots of other new purple/green collections available now that will work equally well.
Batting: Quilter’s Dream Poly Select
Backing: Grunge Wide Quilt Backing by Moda in a creamy gray (see photo below)
Quilting design: Red Velvet pantograph, designed by Patricia Ritter and Valerie Smith, purchased from Urban Elementz.
Thread (for quilting): Superior OMNI, color #3114, Frosted Lilac
I took some outdoor photos, but they didn’t turn out the greatest in full sun, which I’m not about to complain about. But you can see the quilting!

And here’s my original quilt, made many years ago, also in purples and greens, but much darker. I think I like the lighter one better — it reminds me of spring, which I’m quite anxious for right now!

I wondered how that pattern got its name! I can relate!
Cool story for an awesome quilt! I think everyone is ready for spring whenever it decides to show up! The new quilt makes me think of the old fashioned lilac bushes in full bloom!
Thanks for mentioning me. I have a picture of me on the pattern picture. Remember doing that? We have had tons of fun. Still going.
Your newest rendition certainly speaks of spring – gorgeous!
Great story & quilts! Thanks for sharing your history and great design. Appreciate your talent so much.
What a great quilt! Those center squares are great for larger prints. This is a great reminder that a quilt doesn’t need to be overly complicated to be lovely.
Love everything about this quilt. Great doodle-!! .lol.
