The Next 100 Days

Posted on September 23, 2024 by prairiemoonquilts in Challenges, Lists

Here we are at that magical day of the year when there are only 100 days left in the year!

What are you going to do with them?

I always tell myself: “They’re gonna pass anyway, you might as well try to make the most of them!”

You can either still be right where you are today, or do lots of stuff to move yourself forward by the end of the year.

So yesterday, I sat down and made my usual list of “100 Things To Do in the Next 100 Days”:

I’ve lost count of how many 100 Days lists are in this book, but it’s getting to be half full; I’ve been doing these since probably 2008, but specifically in this book since 2010.

The most I’ve ever gotten done from one of these lists is 37 things, but I don’t go easy on myself, so the projects are big and it’s hard to get that number up. Plus, so many things can happen in 100 days to derail you. It’s not easy, but I love making games for myself, so I keep doing it.

I usually do three 100 Days lists each year, but this year, there’s been so much crazy going on around here, I decided to do mini-lists: 30 Things in 30 Days. Those lasted from January thru May, and then I just gave up altogether, and decided to wait until today to start over. But now I hope I’m ready for a nice long fall, and I’m ready to see how much I can get done off my new list!

So here we go! What about you? What will YOU be doing with the last 100 days of 2024? Can you think of 100 things you’d like to accomplish before the new year starts?

Instead of doing 100 things in 100 days I’m going to try to do 100 days of Hand Embroidery to hopefully move a project forward. I’m also borrowing Victoria Findley Wolf’s 15 minutes of play and combining the two. Here’s hoping that I can stick to it!

My list is way too long and too much travel in the plans. My job is that a must is line curtains for 5 rooms. That is cutting into my quilt making. And Christmas gifts are big on the list. Still have too many boxes in our house to deal with.
    The idea is so good!

OH . . . the get the curtains done project! It’s not that I dislike making curtains, because I don’t. It is that they are big and heavy and hard to iron and . . . and . . . I did do myself a HUGE favor when I bought my current house a couple years ago. I discovered this fantastic double-woven linen at fabric-store.com. It is literally like purchasing self-lined linen. I used it for the French patio door on my back deck and loved them so much I bought more of the fabric for my master curtains. If I hadn’t already had the fabric for my den curtains which I loved, I would have used it for them, too. About the only thing I can say having been there done that recently, is best of luck and getter done!

  3. I love this idea. I have never done it before but count me in. I love making lists.

I made a list the other day and I still have things to tick off! But the biggest is to finish building a duck house with my husband before winter sets in. The others are mainly outside chores, but there’s a lot of rain ahead so I’ll be cracking on with sewing!

I was trimming up scraps for almost 3 weeks and wanted to reorganize all of my other fabrics……..
I found at the point of time that I should have started going through my stash I’d had enough morning without sewing. So…….sewing, sewing, sewing!
    Good luck with your list.

While I’m sure I could find 100 things that need doing, actually having the time to do them is something else! Maybe I’ll start with 30 and go from there.

I love the idea but know I’d never get 100 things completed. I’ll have to do maybe one a week.

When my machine was in for a tune up, I cut out quite a few projects. My goal is to get all the quilt tops done and then send to Quilts of Compassion. If they are done, then to cut out at least10 more projects to work on in 2025

I am slowly working on my kit/ wip lists – the benefit of working on only a few gives way to “do I REALLY want to spend the time on this?” Starting a list of donation kits (and secretly keeping list of kit price). I have 4 more online classes to finish up through October. I could do 30/30. Thinking more handwork.

Yes! I’ve been working on my list. Trying to break projects down into steps as it is more realistic for me. This time I’m assigning a priority to each item. Hopefully it will keep me focused on what’s important to get done and stop just doing the easy stuff. I do find it motivating. I don’t generally put any quilting on my lists, I like it to be only for fun. Today I did cut down a tree in my backyard and took care of all the debris and I put a coat of paint on my front porch steps. So 2 things down that I have been procrastinating all summer. Need to prep for the rainy season (aka quilting season 👏🎉👏).

I’ve decided to take any incomplete quilting project I have at least one step further every day. Yesterday I went shopping at a quilt store to find the right red for borders on a block of the month project started several years ago. Quilting friends and I are doing a one color quilt challenge for 2025. I have a blue one I’m quilting now, so this red one is another that will fit with the challenge theme. I wonder if I’ll find any other one color incomplete projects as I take on this 100 day challenge!!! Thanks for motivating us. I hope you meet your 100 day goals.

This has been the year of not procrastinating — finish what was started and no more again. Do not need to make a list; just look in each room of my home and there is something there unfinished. I have finished some and working on others. This has nothing to do with quilting! Keep a project at the sewing machine so that whenever I am tired of those (hopefully finish some) I can return to my sewing for a brain rest and it really works. Hopefully, I can finish most during these 100 days!

  13. I’m going to have to start this on New Years.
I love lists even when I don’t get to check everything off. Maybe I can do it twice next year and get lots of organizing and purging and sewing done.

Well I’m behind on the 100 days left, (was at my daughters house) but I am working on a 365 embroidery from a couple years ago. Have less than a hundred embroideries. So I will have one project on my list, but also doing 3 Christmas quilts as Sew Alongs plan to get the tops done. Forgot the LQS BOM too. Well that makes 5 which I think are doable.
This is fun. I really like your 30 things in 30 days.

  15. Stephanie says:

    I love 100 things time!
List of things to do however, are soul destroying for me. Instead, I date/number up to 100 a few blank pages in my notebook and try to fill in something every day. A mixture of sewing/quilting, and procrastinated house things.
Sometimes I fill in two days lines in one day, which gives me a possible needed day off later.

I think it’s great to make a 100 things to do list! I’m a little behind on making a list since I was visiting family, but I’m starting on it now. I think my list will include a mix of doing some nice things/personal improvement things for ME, doing some projects around my house/garden, and getting quilty projects further along or finished!
