The Arrow Rock Sampler

Today I’m happy to be introducing The Arrow Rock Sampler Block-of-the-Month program!

The Village of Arrow Rock, Missouri, is a historical little village where, once you enter, you’re transported back in time, where things move a little slower, everything’s a lot quieter, there’s no cell phone signal, no traffic, and the birds are really happy! Cute little specialty shops, a few wonderful restaurants, lots of pretty flowers, a famous Lyceum Theater, friendly people, and several buildings of great historical significance to the village can also be found in Arrow Rock.

Every May, Paula and Larry Blevins, residents of Arrow Rock, host a Quilt Camp in the village, where approximately 35 quilters from all over the country come to quilt, eat, visit, and laugh together for a week. Lots of lasting friendships have been formed at Quilt Camp, and it’s always a lot of relaxing fun, sewing, and good food.

At the 2019 Arrow Rock Quilt Camp, some of the instructors (and a few of the students) put their heads together and wondered if we shouldn’t do a Block-of-the-Month quilt related to Quilt Camp. They asked me what I thought, and if I would design one, and of course, I said YES!

We were going to debut the BOM at this year’s Quilt Camp, but this year’s camp got cancelled due to the pandemic, so instead we’re doing it online . . . and here they are!

As I usually do with any of my Block-of-the-Month programs, the quilt is offered in two different color option ideas, along with some interchangeable parts (in this case, the side borders).

Here is the traditional version (before quilting):

And here is the more modern contemporary version:

The quilts are identical, except for their color schemes and borders. They measure 84″ x 96″. There are 14 different blocks in the quilt, each with some special meaning to Arrow Rock, its people, or Quilt Camp. The quilt is made in 12 separate sections, plus borders. The program runs for 6 months (you get patterns for 2 sections each month), and there are various options for signing up to participate in this BOM. It is open to the public — anyone can sign up and do this. It’s not just for the Arrow Rock Campers, altho it was certainly inspired by them.

In fact, if you’re not a Quilt Camper, and have never been to Arrow Rock, you’ll get a tiny glimpse of its history and what Camp is like, and you may decide that you need to be there next time! (And you can!)

There are four different options for signing up, which you can read about below. Read them over, decide which option suits you best, then purchase your option in my Etsy shop HERE. If you don’t have an Etsy account, you can purchase through Etsy as a guest, but if you prefer not to use Etsy at all, contact me and we can work out another method.

You don’t have to choose your color scheme ahead of time. Both options are fully included in the patterns.  I am NOT providing kits for the quilts. They are designed to be completely scrappy, so you can dig into your stash and use up lots of bits and pieces to make these quilts come to life in your own way. There is information included in the pattern about choosing colors and fabrics for the quilts. Feel free to make up your own color scheme — I’m super excited about getting to see some different versions of it!

The quilts cover several different techniques, including some that you’ve possibly experienced during Quilt Camp, if you’ve ever attended. But don’t worry if you’ve never taken the classes — I’ve made the blocks in our Sampler really easy to do, regardless.

Throughout the duration of the program, I will be doing blog posts related to the BOM, with some extra hints and tips, helpful links, and other information related to each month’s sections. These are available to everyone, whether you’re participating or not. You can subscribe to my blog using the form in the upper right, if you wish, so that you don’t miss out on any of the posts.

We also have a FaceBook group for the Arrow Rock Quilt Camp, and if you’re not already a member there, you can ask to join, even if you’ve never been to Camp. Find it HERE. I’ll be posting there regularly, and if you’re participating, I hope you’ll share your BOM progress throughout the program. And . . . we want to do a live show and tell of your finished BOM quilts at the 2021 Arrow Rock Quilt Camp, which is scheduled for May 3-7, 2021, so that gives you a firm deadline for having your quilt finished!

So here are the options . . .

PLEASE NOTE: Option 1 is available to anyone (US or international), but options 2 thru 4 are only available to customers within the US (because of the way things will get shipped). However, if you are an international customer, and you desperately desire Option 2, 3, or 4, contact me to see if we can work something out. And remember, these are NOT kits for the quilts — it’s patterns only and/or extras, depending on which option you choose.

OPTION 1:
PDF Patterns Only. Individual section patterns. Print them yourself. You pay $30 up front for the entire bundle, and each month’s file gets automatically sent, to the email you specify, on the 20th of each month, for six months. This is the least expensive option for collecting the patterns for the quilt, and you don’t have to remember to go buy the next pattern each month. It comes to your email automatically.

OPTION 2:
Print Patterns Only. Individual section patterns. Pre-printed patterns come to you in the regular mail. You pay $60 up front for the entire bundle, and the paper pattern automatically comes to you in the regular mail, shipped on the 20th of each month, for six months. (Your one-time purchase price includes US shipping, and the pattern will show up automatically each month. If you’re international, and want this option, contact me to work out shipping options.)

OPTION 3:
Print Patterns Plus. Individual section patterns, plus bonus project sheets and patterns. Pre-printed, these come to you in the regular mail. You pay $90 up front for the entire bundle (price includes US shipping), and the paper patterns automatically come to you in the regular mail, shipped on the 20th of each month, for six months. This option includes extra patterns and project sheets in addition to the monthly BOM installments, showing other options for using the patterns given, and instructions for additional projects each month. (If you’re international, and want this option, contact me to work out shipping options.)

OPTION 4:
The Works Packet. Individual section patterns, plus bonus project sheets and patterns, and various surprise goodies in a packet that gets mailed to your door automatically on the 20th of each month, for six months. This option includes everything from Option 3, plus an extra goodie or two each month — could be fabric, could be a notion, could be anything — it’s a surprise! You pay $120 up front for the entire set of monthly packages. (Price includes US shipping. If you’re international, and want this option, contact me to work out shipping options.)

All the options are available for purchase HERE.

Be very careful that you are choosing the option that you want when you place your order — there is a full description of each option in the photos for each listing. Packets will ship from my location (Missouri) on the 20th of each month. You only have to purchase one time, and your option will be automatically sent to you each month. Once you’re signed up, you don’t have to remember to do anything extra every month!

We’re beginning this month (May), but you can join in any time, and your 6 months will start whenever you join.

Once the BOM has run its course, the full pattern booklet for the Arrow Rock Sampler quilts will be available for purchase by itself. The bonus project sheets are only available in Options 3 and 4, but some of the additional patterns may become available for individual purchase later.

I hope this all makes sense. I’m including these different options so you can choose the one that fits the way you’d like to participate. If you have any questions, please contact me or send me an email or leave a comment, and I will get back to you very soon.

I love Arrow Rock – camped there many times. I have not done Quilt Camp but have considered it, but not sure camping & sewing machines go together. I have done hand sewing many times but not lugged a machine to camp table. Thanks for the memories of Arrow Rock
