The 350 Blocks Project, October Report

Posted on October 31, 2013 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Only two more months to make it to 350 blocks!350button13

Some of you won’t have to worry about this, because you’re either way over 350, or well on the way to it.

Me, it’s a good thing I had a good month in September, or I’d be having a bit of a struggle . . .

I didn’t make much progress this month. I increased my count by only 7 blocks.

I made 6 more of these little things. Here’s 3 of them:3HSTs

And one block I can’t show you just yet.

Pathetic, I know . . .

In my defense, however, I made two entire quilts, and two quilt tops for other people. It’s just that those blocks (which would have been a total of 166) don’t count for me since they’re not MY UFOs. Bummer!

Just so you don’t think I’m a total slacker . . . I have been sewing!

How did you all do? This month’s goal was to reach 290 blocks total. Did you get there? Get past it? You don’t have to worry because you’re way out there ahead of the game? If so, congratulations! You’re being so productive! If not, don’t worry — there’s still time to catch up.

For November, we’re adding 30 more blocks to the count, so we can get to 320 for the year. I’ve updated the 350 Blocks Project page to reflect that, so you can check in if you forget.

And now it’s time to let me know your new totals for October so I can get those posted as well. So let me hear it — what did you get done in October? I need some motivation, so hearing what you’ve done might give me the kick in the pants that I need . . .

And . . . the September prize winners are . . .

For meeting the goal of 259: Barb B., who got to 304 already!

For participating: Bobbi, who’s chugging right along as well, with 119 blocks done.

Thanks, everyone, for playing along, and I’ll get your prizes right out to you.

Oh, and before I go . . . a question:

Several of you have asked if I’ll be doing this again next year. Do you want to? I’d like to do it again, even if for no one other than myself, but if you all still want to participate, too, I’d be glad to host it again with prizes and everything.

So send me some feedback . . . Is 350 a good number, or should we aim higher? Or lower? Are the monthly check-ins/prizes good, or do you only want to be accountable quarterly? Is there anything about the way it’s handled that you think I should change/add/delete? It’s gotta be fun and motivating, or I find I can’t stick to it — I assume that helps you all out, too. So let me know your thoughts, and if you want me to continue this in 2014, I’ll be thinking up something exciting!

Now go get stitching!

I found it just right this year, but I could accommodate changes if others want them. I definitely want an accountability system somewhere!

I was thinking about joining next year, so I hope you do it again.

    918 for the year!

I’d be happy to join again next year. It’s a fun spin on stash busting to count the blocks as well.

You have so many irons in the fire…you are doing fine and deserve partial credit for keeping all of us motivated. A 10% commission would be fair, don’t you think.

Anyway, my blocks for October total is 55. Just about an even split between the Oh My Stars quilt and a new postage stamp quilt I am calling Growing Up Odd. That brings my total for the year to 406.

That would be a “commission” of 40 to you for keeping me on track. Congratulations!

    Hi Shelly:
I got 8 blocks done for my quilt guild’s Quilts of Valor block drive and since I had all my red, white & blue fabrics out I cut out enough for a top based on Bonnie Hunter’s free “Star Struck” pattern on her blog. So far I have 9 of those completed.

That means I have 17 total for October.

Thanks for keeping my nose to the grindstone, even if its really pure fun for me!

I want to play along again next year, and I think it is perfect the way it is. Keeps me from slacking off too much.

I’m looking forward to the new MQ.

I’m game to do this next year, but I’ll start in January instead of waiting till September. this month I added 61 blocks for a total of 213.

I have only 11 English Paper pieced blocks to add this month. But I plead that I have accomplished a lot anyway. I made two table runners leading a workshop and I started a quilt for my granddaughter’s graduation next May. But it is strips and not blocks and I actually started stitching today, Nov 1st. I might, might get a lot more done in November.

  10. Cathy Poyner says:

I have 61 for a yearly total of 321. I think you should make it 365 for a block a day for 2014. Thanks for doing this challenge.

  11. Bobbi says:

I finally got to do some sewing this month! I added 11 blocks, so my new total for the year is 130.
