Let’s kick off The 350 Blocks Project for 2015, shall we?
As usual, I’m hoping to get lots of blocks made that will push a lot of my UFOs further along, and I’m hoping you will join me. Our main goal is to make 350 quilt blocks this year.
For lots of you, this is really easy, but I’m still keeping it at 350, which is nearly one block a day for the entire year, and that seems like enough to gauge some good progress by, don’t you think? Of course, more is better, and you’re welcome to just churn them out like mad and see how far you can get! I’d love to beat all our records from last year!
As for counting, you’re on the honor system, but here’s how I count mine. A quilt block counts as one block, naturally, but what about quilts that aren’t really “blocks”? Or what about really complicated borders? I think we should get credit for those!
If you’re not quite sure how to count something, just divide it into sections that seem like blocks, and count them that way. For instance — four complicated borders? I’d count those as either 4 or 8 blocks, depending on how complicated.
A modern quilt that is just maybe one large block? If it’s really simple, just count it as one large block, but if it’s a bit more involved, break it up into sections and count each section as a block.
Also, this only includes completed blocks made in 2015 (not block units), so you can go back to January 1st, and count any blocks you’ve made so far, but not back any further than that, and not the individual units that make up a completed block (they don’t count until they’re in a completed block, in other words).
And here are the general rules. Simple, really, but that’s the way I like to keep it.
* Let me know you’re playing along
Simply comment on this post, or contact me to let me know you’re in. I deleted all of last year’s info to start fresh, so if you are playing along again this year, please let me know again, and I’ll add you back. (It just keeps me from getting confused.)
I’ve created a page for the 350 Blocks Project HERE, where I’ll be listing information regarding the project and how it’s progressing. If you’re participating, I’ll put your name (and a link to your blog if you have one) on the project page. You can jump in any time.
If you only want to do some of the months, that’s fine. You’ll be eligible for the prize that month. Can’t start till later? No problem, you can still do the months you’re able to, and you’ll still be eligible for the grand prizes in the end. Just do what you can.
* Report in every month
I’ll put up a monthly blog post about the project, either on the last day of the month, or the first day of the next month, where I’ll show you the blocks I get done. When you see one of those posts, you need to leave a comment on it, telling us all about your own progress, and either link back to your own blog post, or at least let me know how many blocks you’ve done. You can also email me directly with your current number of blocks, or use the contact page to let me know. I’ll give you a few days to report in each month, so that you have time to leave your comment and be eligible for the prize, because . . . if you don’t let me know you’re playing along, I won’t know to include you in the drawings!
I’ll post your number of completed blocks next to your name on the project page, so you can see how you’re doing compared to everyone else, and I’ll update it every time you let me know your new number. This is NOT a race, however, and everyone who reports in is eligible for the prizes. I repeat, it’s not a contest, it’s just for fun! Well . . . and those prizes!
* Monthly prizes
At the end of each month, I’ll have a prize drawing for those who have made progress that month. I’ll draw one random winner from everyone who reports in that month. What this means is: You MUST report in each month in order to be eligible for that month’s prize drawing.
* Grand Prizes
At the end of the year, there will be some Grand Prizes. If you actually meet the goal of 350 blocks, you’re eligible for the big Grand Prize, and if you don’t quite make it, you’re still eligible to win some prizes just for participating. Everyone who has reported in at least once during the Project is eligible for the final prize drawings.
So are you ready?
If you’re up for the challenge, let me know you’d like to participate, and you can steal the button above for your blog if you like (which isn’t mandatory, either). Just link back to: <https://prairiemoonquilts.com/?page_id=1037>
Good luck to us all! Let’s beat last year’s records!
Hop to it!!!!
We’ll see if I can do a better job reporting in this year!
I’m in for 2015! Thanks for hosting this challenge. I love totaling up my blocks every month. 🙂
Count me in for the 350 blocks. Just a thought….does applique count as 15 a block? 😉
Would love to join in the fun this year. Count me in.
I’m in! Hoping I do better than last year, but happy to play along either way.
I’m joining! I’ve read for the last two years. Time to step up to the plate and get it done!
I am in although I currently can’t find the blocks I made last week and I am about to cry.
I’m in for 2015. Thanks for all you do, it makes quilting more fun.
I plan to participate. I need to remember how many blocks that I have already made in January.
I’m in for 2015 thanks
Well I’m going to try this. I’m very new to quilting (2 years) and need something to focus my ideas on and get those blocks made so I hope this will work.
I’d love to put that button on my blog but no idea how I do that! Don’t I need some text to copy into a widget and not just that link? ? – not just the link?
For my UFOs it’s less about blocks and more about assembling and quilting — but I do have one quilt that need to make 300 more tiny 3″ handstitched Leymone Stars. Of course there will be a few blocks here and there. Bottom line — count me in.
I’m in.
Yippee! It’s a race! (Ok, maybe not…Lol)
I am in!
I’m in. This is one of my favorite things. So far this year it is right at a block a day average. Thank you for doing it again.
I’m in!
Count me in!

Count me in although I need some clarification on what constitutes a block. Lot of my quilts have plain cut squares as a block such as in a tube quilt or in my latest. See: http://quiltingreadersgarden.blogspot.com/2015/01/this-and-that-week-2.html. And I have one I’m constructing where the border is made up of small blocks that I cut, sew, trim, sew, trim, sew, trim. Is each one a block. Oh dear.
Please add me to the list.. 🙂 I love playing along and have started my count already. I’ve been a very busy girl! 🙂
I’m in for 2015
Count me in.
this challenge sounds like fun. Count me in!!!
Hey, Shelly, I think I’ll try this. I’ve never kept track of the number of blocks before. It might be fun, or depressing, I’m not sure which.
It was pretty cool! I just lacked the reporting ability in the last half of the year!
I’ll give it a try – I seriously need to whittle down my stash!!
Add me to the list! I’m in!!!
Hmm, this sounds like fun. Count me in!
As this is my first time I have a question….do blocks made for charity count also?
This sounds really fun….thank you for hosting.
I’m in! Thanks so much for hosting this again this year.
I’m so glad you addressed the border question…I just made a quilt with 48 four-patches in the border but it just seemed kind of like cheating to count them all! lol I’ll go with four which gives me nearly 25 already this month. I’ve put a white board in my sewing room with hash marks for finishes and an ongoing block count. I lost track last year but this year I’m going for a thorough count!
I am in again this year. This will be my 3rd year. I am excited, this really helps me keep track of what I am doing, plus I have a lot of UFO’s that I need to complete this year.
Thanks again.
I’m in!!!!!
Count me in! Thanks for hosting another year.
I’m in this year!
Sounds fun count me in too!!
Count me in! I have a lot of UFO’s to finish this year!!
I’ll play, as long as I can remember to let you know how many blocks I’ve made. I forget all the time! cdahlgren at live dot com
Count me in for the 2015 Block Count!! Maybe I will keep up better this year than last!!
Yes Id like to play sign me up
I want in! This sounds like fun and a new experience for me. I have high hopes for my quilting this year.
Ok,Shelly, I will give it another try. I need to get motivated. However, I have been riding every day. Yes, in this cold, but in an unheated indoor arena, out of the wind.
Yes yes yes I am definitely in for another year of fun and motivation. Thanks for organising
I’m in, I’m in!
Count me in! This sounds like fun.
I am in!
I’m in! Sewing like crazy to complete 2 QOV this month for our quilt show in March.
I’m in again. I will be better at reporting in! No slacking here….I hope!
I am in. I will do better about reporting consistently hopefully I will be able to so more this year!
Count me in again!
I am in!!
Thanks for holding the block challenge again in 2015. I will definitely try my best to beat my total from last year.
I thought I had commented a few days ago, but must not have posted it.
Count me in for another year. I’m so glad the 350 Blocks project is continuing!
Just came across this 350 block project – and would love to join! Will be traveling a lot, but hope to get some blocks going. And UFO’s finished 😉
Thanks so much!

I just found this and love the idea! I’m joining, too. Thank you for the inspiration.
Just come across the 350 block and I’d love to join in. I have several UFO’s that need blocks plus new projects.
Thank you for creating this challenge. The concept is very appealing to me. I get bored and overwhelmed easily and this is perfect. Please consider me signed-up.
This looks like fun, and since I’ve just started the Farmer’s Wife quilt, I’ll be working on those blocks whenever I have a few minutes. So count me in…for January at least 🙂
I’m in!! This sounds like a lot of fun, and it will be neat to see how many blocks I make in a year.
I want to jump back in, in hopes that I can actually finish a few things this year!
This sounds good. Please count me in. I have some UFOs to complete but mostly, I want to shop my stash. 😉
This sounds like fun! I will be a miracle if I can pull it off, but I’d really like to try!
I only found your blog today through Shari post on participating in the 350 block project and I just had to join in on this challenge if it’s not too late. I don’t know if I can make it but I am going to try.
Okay, last year I absolutely sucked! But this year I am ready. I have wanted to do a black and white quilt with read accents forever now. So I bought all my fabric and found a pattern – day and night – that I like and I am at the gate and ready to go please add me in!
I thought I’d already said yes, but wasn’t on the list. I’m in
Thank you for hosting such a fun challenge! I am going to do my best to meet it head on.
I just found out about this. Please count me in. I made 14 blocks in January.

I would love to do this! Please add me, if it’s okay…thanks. Sue
