Summertime Samplers

They’re here! The new Block-of-the-Month quilts for Sew Sweet Quilt Shop!

Summertime Samplers kicks off September 8th at the shop in Brunswick, MO. If you’d like to get in on this, just give the shop a call at 660.548.3056 and get signed up. I’ll put more details below.

As usual, we do a traditional version. This year’s traditional version is cool and soothing blues with cream for a background. Some of the blues are from Laundry Basket Quilts collections, and some are from a Me and My Sister collection, both by Moda. It’s a little mix of several things.

And a modern version. The modern version uses some Bonnie and Camille fabrics by Moda (not sure what line or lines), along with some Grunge and Grunge dots (also by Moda), and a white-on-white background fabric. Very bright and cheery!

This year’s quilts feature 12 traditional (or based on traditional) quilt patterns in five different sizes, set into a random setting.

The traditional version has some appliqué, but I tried to keep it to simple shapes and repeated them a lot, so if you have been wanting to try appliqué, this is a good one to get started with!

The modern version replaces those appliqué sections with pieced parts, so you can leave out the appliqué.

And the good news? They’re completely interchangeable!

You can do the modern color way and put the appliqué in, or you can do the traditional color way and substitute the pieced parts in place of the appliqué. The blocks are in the same positions in both quilts so you can make those changes very easily.

Or you can take the blocks you make, and put them into any other setting of your choice!

The blocks that are in the dark frames are the blocks you will receive each month from Sew Sweet Quilt Shop. The setting is up to you!

The pattern booklet has all the illustrated instructions for both quilts, full-size applique patterns, sheets of labels for you to use to keep everything straight while you’re sewing, and a few other random tidbits, simply because I like throwing them in!

Participation is easy . . .
You purchase the pattern booklet at the beginning from Sew Sweet Quilt Shop. Then you can come to the Second Saturday meetings at the shop (second Saturday of every month) and see all the new things in the shop (plus there’s a great show and tell session — and prizes!) and pick up your block for $5. Or if you live too far to do that, you can have them mail it to you for an additional $3 each month.

If you miss one, you can pick your block up any time, or have them mail it to you. You can sign up to do one version, or sign up to do them both! Just give Sew Sweet Quilt Shop a call at 660.548.3056 and have them put you on the list! It’s that easy! Signups close on October 12th.

Throughout the year, I’ll be posting extra information about the quilts here on the blog that’s free to everyone, and there will be at least one bonus project (that you’ll only get if you’re signed up and participating), so don’t delay — it kicks off next Saturday, September 8th, at the shop! Or give them a call and have them mail you the goodies (660.548.3056).

Great options and a great design. Too bad I am so far away…is it possible to just purchase the pattern? Or, is that what you meant by the booklet?

Both quilts are so beautiful! I especially love the traditional version with applique in these amazing blues…the colors are actually much like a mystery quilt I made last year.

Both the traditional and the modern versions are really pretty. The blue and cream look great together in the traditional.

Is there a cutting correction on the part 4 of the filler section for the background fabric?
