Suan’s 36-Patch Quilt

Posted on November 14, 2022 by prairiemoonquilts in Quilts

Years ago, I made a 36-Patch quilt:

I finished the top in 2012 at a retreat, and finally got it quilted and bound in February of 2019! It takes me awhile sometimes, especially if the quilt doesn’t have a deadline — haha!

A couple years ago, I sold the quilt. However, my daughter’s personal assistant, Suan, was in love with the quilt, and was sad that it sold. So I started a new one just for Suan!

Made entirely from my stash (again), I tried to make it just as bright and happy as the first one!

I finished it in time for my daughter to gift it to Suan while she was in California to visit her in September.

Suan is very happy with the quilt (she cried when she got it). I can’t think of any better reason to make a quilt than to give it to someone who really wants it and loves it!

Here are the details . . .

Suan’s 36-Patch:

Finished size: 84″ x 96″
Pattern: From an online quilt along by Crazy Mom Quilts HERE
Fabrics for entire quilt: All scraps from my stash
Batting: Quilter’s Dream Poly Select
Thread: Superior OMNI #3022 Silver
Quilting: All-over diagonal grid by me

    Beautiful Shelly!
Do you have to mark the entire quilt to do that pretty grid quilting?

Beautiful! And that is the best feeling – when you gift a quilt (especially as a surprise) and they are so grateful that it brings happy tears!

  9. I love stories like this. Making quilts is a blessing, but when they go to those that really appreciate them, it warms the heart.

a cry is better than money! I’ve had a few of those and you know they love the quilt and that’s what’s important. I may have to try the 36 patch. I have since 2.5 strips already cut.

Fantastic quilts! Great scrap eater–started a block today from all the two-inch squares I was wondering how to use. Great leader-ender as well. Thank you!
