Studio Organizing, Week 6

Posted on February 5, 2015 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio Organizing Challenge

Whew! That feels so much better! I even got rid of some things. In just one drawer!

But that is one of my main goals with all this organizing: Less Stuff!

Especially if I have duplicates I’ll never use. I got rid of FIVE boxes of pins! And I probably still have too many.

How about you? How did you do cleaning out one drawer or shelf?

I hope you got it done, because yep, it’s time already for our next task.

This one is a difficult one for me:

Clean off your cutting table or main work area

I know we just did this during the Final Countdown, but it’s been over a month, and look at this! I canNOT seem to keep this one surface under control. It’s downright shameful!

So my task for this week is to clean it off yet again. If yours is still clean, then you’re getting a bit of a break this week. If you’re like me, well . . . we have our work cut out for us . . .

Exercise caution!

You make me chuckle. Of course it’s cluttered. We are quilters. Don’t ever expect to have a clean surface unless you are my daughter in law. She is a neat freak for sure. Anyway I am proud of your effort, but girl it will never, I repeat never stay clean. That’s part of the joy. To look around and see that you are VERY creative. Don’t ever loose that attitude of being creative. IT works for you and for me as a quilter. A cluttered quilt room is paradise for me. Although once in a while I do have to organize a tiny bit. But that’s only to find my cutter’s and scissors.

My cutting table is the catch-all. I need to clean it off every time I go in the sewing room.

I think posting a photo really holds one accountable… You are inspiring me also. I have been slowly going through my sewing area.

    Well, how did you know?
    Check out my table:
I was just looking at it and thinking I’m glad I’m not cutting anything right now.
But, as soon as this quilt is quilted, then I’ll be trimming it off.
Thanks for a much needed challenge.

  5. LOL, When I clean it, it stays maybe a day somewhat clean. But I have to do it, so happy you picked this one. Because not only is it my cutting table but it is the area around my machine when I am quilting. ANd I have two to quilt. Your drawer looks so neat. Couldn’t get past my pack rat wall to do one of mine, and then time was a factor also. I should paste your photo as my background to know what to strive for.

Yep – my cutting board is covered — again and in less than a week. With the desk swap going on I had the leaf dropped down so nothing could get put on it. Last night I “emptied” a crate and now it’s on the cutting board. As for last week’s drawer — let’s just say it’s an ongoing project.

Nice drawer – sometimes it is nice to re-organize you find thing you forgot that you had. Then they seem new again.

I have two projects I am working on all over my cutting table. Each project has been getting 30 minutes each in the mornings before work. Hopefully I will have both wrapped up this weekend as I need to start a new baby quilt.

  8. Rose Marie says:

I guess I am lucky not to have a cutting table then. The room I use for a sewing room is also an often used bedroom……… things get put away every night except the stuff on the counter next to the sewing machine. I like to be neat though and don’t think I would like a really messy working area. Maybe someday I will have a space all to myself……..and then we’ll really know!!

  9. Cindy says:

Oh this is one task that seemingly needs to be done over and over and over. Yes, it’s time for me to clean it off again too.

  10. I cleaned off my cutting table last week, forgot it was one of your organization challenges. Sure is nice to have that surface back! Drawers and pegboard are on my to-do list….I never plan these things, it needs to happen when I’m so inspired đŸ™‚

    See the final result.
    The cutting table is cleared.
    The mat is cleaned.
Does anyone know if those mat smoother things (I don’t know what they are called) ever wear out?
Now to mess it up again by trimming a quilt. đŸ™‚

I have been also cleaning things up around here. My sewing space is along one wall of my bedroom (I am a widow for three years now). That room has a fairly decent walk in closets. I don’t have that many clothes. People hardly ever visit. So I moved my clothes to the other clothes which is practically useless, and am making the walk in my place for storing my stash and supplies. It is almost done. Am very pleased. Been going through tubs and sorting out some fabs and putting stuff for cutting into sqs and strips into tubs. It has been a lot of hard work but I am happy with what is happening with it. So I guess I fit right in with your challenge. Unknowingly!!

I cleaned up my cutting tables. Since that Final Countdown, I’ve really tried to not let things pile up.
