Studio Organizing, Week 6

Posted on February 8, 2016 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio Organizing Challenge

Did you clear out some space last week?

I made a little progress. I can walk into my spare room now, and I know what’s actually in the room, which helps if I end up looking for something we still haven’t unpacked since the move! Uff!

Long way to go yet!

But it’s time for this week’s task. It’s an easy one this time:

Clean out your sewing box

I’ve done some hand sewing lately, and I just keep adding spools of thread to my sewing box, and not putting away the ones I’m done with. There’s stuff in the bottom that needs to be put away, and I need to restock my thimblepads and sharpen my pencil!

The loose safety pins need to be corralled, and I can’t find my spool of black thread!

I have more hand sewing coming up in my near future, so this way, my sewing box will be all neat and cleaned out and organized for that. It’ll feel so much better to have the right things at hand and uncluttered!

I’ve shown you this before, but I’m amazed that I’m still using this cute little thing my sister gave me as my main sewing box. Usually, when one gets cluttered up, I just switch to another one. Does this mean I’m making some headway?

How about you? Do you have a sewing basket you use the most?

Is it cleaned out and organized?

Do you need to put away some things, and restock your most-used supplies?

This is our week to get our special sewing boxes organized and ready for some serious stitching! Good luck!

I have a couple of sewing baskets with projects. Those are organized and out of the way.

Last weeks challenge I had a couple of rooms. The Pantry and my small sewing room.
    – Pantry all neat and organize now. It was so bad that I had 4 ketchup, 6 boxes of spaghetti noodles. Its just my DH and I! At now I can take an inventory of what I need before going to the store!

    – Sewing room – The walk-in closet was such a mess! I’ve been working on a couple of projects for Church and pulled so much fabric out that I just shoved it back in! I decided to pack up my fabrics so that when ready to move into my studio, I just pick up and go! YAY

Thanks for the inspiration. The lunch pail I use for hand work didn’t need attention, so I pulled out each drawer (six of them) of the rolling cabinet that sits close to my machine and neatened those. I found several things I don’t need any more, and I’ll pass those items along to others.

I cleaned out my hand sewing basket last week. It’s amazing how many spools of thread that little basket could hold.

I made some progress, but still need more help, which is why I love your challenges. It is a good thing!

I cleaned out all my old magazines and donated them to a classroom at one of the local schools. I am still working on clearing more things out.

hmm last week I spent time organizing my room to hold 5 sewing machines… it did… and no fuses were blown. After every one left I tired not to fill in the spaces. I like the open feeling I created. We got snow last night so I don’t have to leave the house today… so I can creatively catch up!!!

I finished going through mine. Found some extra spools of thread and miscellaneous things that never got put away after I was finished with them from the last project. I even took time to work on the current hand-work that I have in there.

It feels good to get something accomplished, and a bonus, too! Thanks for the mission!

Wow! I’ve been busy and never got to check in for week 5 so here’s the short story! Room and closet painted, carpet steam cleaned. Started moving my “stash” and “stuff” back in. Started with the now empty closet. Books/mags on top shelf. Accuquilt cutter and dies on lower shelf and floor underneath, 2 organizing bins now contain all my bag sewing supplies. All labeled.
Sorted all quilt and bag batting, stabilizers, interfacing and foam on lower shelf. Then the fabric! All large cuts now on comic book boards and placed by color in large dresser. All strips in one container, charms and layer cakes in 2nd, jelly rolls in 3rd. Novelty, children’s and Holiday fabric sorted, folded and in it’s bin. Cleaned and oiled 2 DSM and 1 serger today. One machine to go!
5 bags of trash and a growing pile to take to thrift store! YIKES!
Where does it all come from! Thanks for the motivation!
