Studio Organizing, Week 5

Posted on January 29, 2015 by prairiemoonquilts in Organizing, Studio Organizing Challenge

My Cowboy reads my blog . . . apparently more than I think he does!

After my lamentations about broken rotary cutters from last week, look what magically arrived in the mail this week!

cutters

My Cowboy shopped for my favorite cutter, in several different styles, and now I think I’m set for a good long while. It sure is nice, too. So much easier on my hands, wrists, and even my shoulders.

I got my pens and pencils all corraled. All the extras now fit in this one drawer and my pencil mugs. I think they look delicious.

The pens and markers I use for sewing are in their container in the sewing room in a drawer.

I have this many to donate the next time we go to Care & Share:

And I threw away a lot that were dried up and no good — I feel so much better! Now whenever I find a straggler, it has a place to go.

I’m coming along slowly on organizing my bookcase. It’s a little more progress.

But it’s already time for this week’s organizing task, which is:

Clean out and organize one drawer

If you don’t have any drawers in your studio, then clean off and organize one shelf.

I am blessed with plenty of both, and most all of them are in need of organizing. This is one task we may have to repeat again sometime during the year!

For now, I have chosen this drawer:

At first glance, I can see all sorts of pin containers, spare parts for my longarm machine, and several other completely random items. There are 3 other drawers in this cabinet as well, so I may get ambitious and organize them all — time will tell.

How about you? Do you have at least one drawer or shelf that could use some attention?

Well I took the time to check my rotary cutters and found that the one ghat was hanging up had the wrong brand of blade in it. ( now who could have done that?) And the blade was broken. Maybe they will all work better now. Also oiled my machine before starting something else.

Clean out a drawer? Are you kidding. The drawers are where everything is shoved to get it off the horizontal surfaces. If I take it out, then I will have a new problem. This organization thing is getting harder and harder. LOL

You don’t know how much I appreciate you doing thing. I helps to keep me focused and allows me to not feel alone.

Please do this drawer challenge again. I am so sure I have too many that could use it.

Ooh, look at all of those Sharpies. 😉 Your husband is awesome! Way to go on the organization!!

  5. Cynthia says:

No drawers to tackle but do have a number of shelves that could get a tidy up. So it is now time to pick a shelf and get to work. Then I may be able to put a few more things away.

  6. Susan says:

Many! And totes, too. And boxes and corners. But I’m working on them, slowly. Each thing done feels so good.

I only have one drawer it is in my sewing table – I have had it for 33 years. Sad to say it does not have any sewing things in it except 2 pairs of scissors. I think it could use a good cleaning. I too have several shelves, baskets, and totes that could use a good cleaning. Since my drawer is little I will try to do a draw and a shelf.

    Finished! http://melsquiltingblog.blogspot.com/2015/01/organizing-update.html

it didn’t take that long, and I found some interesting things. LOL

Now that is true love!!! I knew he was reading your blog when you did the one about the irons and he got you one when he went to Kirksville. However, seemingly everyone else read your blog too and I can no longer get them at the Salvation Army like I did prior to your post. LOL I cleaned one drawer last week when I went through the pens and pencils. That still leaves me five.

I finally finished my sewing room. But my room is very small. Will see if I can get some pics and send them to you.

This week I am doing a horizontal surface as my organizational challenge. I would post a picture but I’m embarrassed.

I’ve been working on drawers as my 2 year old loves to investigate them. Then again, they never stay tidy long since he likes to investigate them! At least I’m working to purge the accessible ones of dangerous items!

I’m a wee bit behind in posting on this, but my daughter and I have been making headway on sorting our pens and drawers. She’s been sick with a cold for awhile, but she loves to organize, so this was a good thing to keep her busy with.
