Studio Organizing, Week 49

Did you find a messy drawer to clean out and organize?

I got mine looking good!

I took everything out of the drawer, and found another home for most of what was in there. All that’s left is about 5 pieces of fabric that are earmarked for certain upcoming projects.

I’m still thinking about putting those elsewhere and using the drawer for another purpose, but I’ll decide later when things have slowed down a bit more.

But things never slow down around here, so don’t hold me to that!

We’re getting close to the end of the year, so I’m digging way back for another repeat, because this is nearly our last chance to:

Try to finish a UFO

Is there something you’d like to finish up and have off your plate heading into the new year?

Is there a Christmas gift you need to finish up so it can be given?

I’ve chosen one. While I may not get it quilted and done, I’d at least like to call the top finished, so I’m working on my All A Flutter quilt top. It’s from a pattern by Cotton Way:

And I’m making mine out of all cowboy fabrics — big surprise, huh?

Hopefully, next week, I’ll have a finished top to show you!

What UFO will YOU be finishing this week?

It wasn’t a drawer I cleared last week, but I re-organized my two boxes of quilt tops. Now any top with backing fabric is in the smaller box on the floor and only those quilt tops which need backing are in the larger box on the top shelf – turns out the top only box has lots of space in it and with the UFOs I’ve been finishing there’s a little space in the top/backing box – although not much. As for this week’s challenge, I want to finish up two – the Hardware Panel quilt which needs binding (quilted it Saturday) and the Red Disappearing 9-Patch which I started quilting last week. I suspect though I’ll still be stitching up to Christmas Day!

I have been cutting away off and on since last April from fabrics left from my Mother’s stash of scraps. These are 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and even 60’s leftovers from her garment sewing. Probably most are the 50’s and 60’s era but a lot of it is feedsacks and they have the 30’s and 40’s looks to them. Anyway, I saw somewhere someone had cut squares of such fabrics and sewed them into a row and attached (appliqued by machine) that row across a plain tea towel. I have completed 3 sets of 2 of these to give to my three daughters. This is a little something leftover from their Great Grandmother Lola. I will give these sets for Christmas with a copy of a recipe in her handwriting. I have lots of those also.
All of this was meant to get rid of all the scraps from Mother. It was originally a large cardboard box and it is down now to one plastic sweater bin. I call that progress!!

  3. No drawers done, but I do have a birthday gift I want to have done before the end of the year. Just have the binding to finish. If my gimpy leg cooperates I may just get there. Yippy!

I got my drawer cleaned out and in baggies. LOL Seemed to be a good way to corral the zippers and other stuff.
I have lots of things I would love to get done, but my special reach quilt is what I want to focus on.

My organizing task from last was was to update my “Quilting Book List”. I’d added 18 new books to my collection and hadn’t recorded them. Feeling better now that it’s done.

For my UFO for next week, I need to make a label for my Christmas table runner, take pictures of the project, print the picture, and put in my book. Then that project will be DONE!

    Easy, right? Maybe.

When I get that done, I’ll start on another UFO…
