Studio Organizing, Week 40

Posted on October 1, 2015 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio Organizing Challenge

Well? Did you get a UFO under control and moved forward just a bit? Finish something? Get rid of it because you never want to finish it? That counts, you know. I do it myself sometimes.

I resolved to work on my daughter’s wedding quilt, and while I haven’t worked on it as much as I want or need to, I have put in a few stitches. And every stitch moves me further along, right?

Because I’m cruising this week . . . in fact, today I’m teaching a fusible applique class to several quilting cruisers after several days of doing other fun stuff . . . this week’s task is a repeat:

Revisit a previous task and work on it again

Pick something from the list that you didn’t get done the first (or second) time we’ve worked on it, and see if you can move it further along, or even finish it this time.

I’ll be home soon, and will have some days before the next task to revisit an older one, and I think I’m going to pick “Eradicate a pile”. I’ve made some doosies lately, and I could sure use the breathing room. Plus, it just feels good to have a pile gone and know that all the stuff is put away. I need that.

What about you?

What task do you need to revisit this week?

Unfortunately I did not work on a UFO but am making some Fall hot pads, mug rugs and potholders. I lot more fun and they need to be done for gifts. I even made one for myself. This is getting some left over fabric used and some from the really big stash of fabric I have.

The one you just did. My UFOs are NOT together and ready to be worked on at retreat.

Yes, I finished a UFO from 2007 last night — if you don’t count the pair of matching pillowcases. 2 more seams on it then the set goes into the wash.

I am home after a 3 month hiatus to California. My sewing room was not even accessible the first day. Second day spent catching up on mail and essentials like food for the fridge and me.

Today, moved fabric to better storage area, arranged furniture to accommodate the new fat quarter bins and before the sun sets, I plan to get the cutting table cleared to start and finish a simple pillowcase.

WOW! I got something done…. sometimes it is just as important to start and measure progress rather than perfection!

    I didn’t even touch them. 🙁
I think I’ll work to get them done this week.

I’m going to clean off my big work table, AGAIN.

I did finish a UFO – well almost. I quilted a wall hanging that was all layered before the July move and have it bound. HOWEVER it still needs one more detail of embroidery around the fusible flowers. I decided to add it after the quilting. It is a design decision. If it survives into the next century (and that is unlikely) the collectors of antiques will wonder what in the world she was thinking. I will be chuckling at their bewilderment.

I have two small quilts that just got back from the quilter. Normally I do small ones myself, but I really wanted these finished special and indulged the whim. Hopefully I’ll finish binding them today and be able to count them as finished.

Maybe I missed the monthly 350 update, but I did finish 46 blocks in September for a total of 345. Nearly there!

I have been busy organizing fabric stash when I am not in the combine. Harvest has been in full swing around here since September 22nd. I have about 3/4 of one cabinet full, but think it’s time to go sew on my Bonnie Hunter project from our retreat. Thanks for inspiring me to get more organized.

My longarm quilting is backing up again. I pulled out all of my tops and measured for backings and made my shopping list. Then I re-organized a cubby hole with shelves. I don’t think I threw anything out but I combined some baskets and have a bin to give away. I have a couple of bins that I plan to sort through this month and decide what to do with old craft items.
