Studio Organizing, Week 39

Posted on September 24, 2015 by prairiemoonquilts in Studio Organizing Challenge

Last week’s task was an eye-opener for me. As I gathered up handwork projects, I realized I have hand-sewing supplies scattered all over my house! Pincushions, sewing boxes, needlecases, scissors, thimbles, thread, thread, thread!

I did NOT get them all under control this week. I did organize the one hand-sewing project that is most urgently needing my attention, and that’s as far as I got. Everything I need for said project is in my favorite little sewing box:

SewingBox

I resolve to give this task some more attention sometime in the near future, but for now, it’s once again time to move on.

This week’s task is:

Pick a UFO to concentrate on

Is there a certain project that’s bothering you?

One that’s in disarray and needs to be reorganized?

One that’s missing something and needs to have some attention paid to it so it can move forward?

One that’s so close to finished that if you just gave it a little bit of time you could call it done?

One that’s not on any of your active lists, so it’s languishing somewhere?

While I have way too many projects to choose from, I’ll be off teaching on a New England Fall Foliage cruise all next week, and I’m thinking about taking along a section of my daughter’s wedding quilt to continue working on. It needs some attention. And about a million more miles of hand embroidery. She got married at the end of August, so I need to get it finished! What are my chances of actually getting to spend any time working on it if I’m on a cruise? We shall see.

How about you? Can you find a UFO to show a little TLC this week? I’d love to hear about it. Because I’m fairly certain it will remind me of many others I need to work on of my own!

Earlier this week I pulled a UFO from 2007 out to finish up. The top has been done since 2012 and I started quilting it on a longarm that year but never finished the quilting. It’s out and I’m finishing up the quilting on my DSM. I’d love to finish it up this week to get another finish as part of my ‘Crazy Challenge II’.

    Kidney stones. Enough said.?

  3. Can I find a UFO to work on? Hahahahaha – I’m drowning in them. Yes, I’ll be working on one.

I am working on a UFO that is all hand pieced. I am just about to finish the 33 blocks that are simple……….but the next and last three are much more complicated. I hope to cut the pieces this weekend. And I found the fabrics that those pieces need to be cut from. I can’t believe that I actually set aside scraps to cut all of this from since I have been working on this for at least 4 years. If I hadn’t moved a few months ago and sorted through most everything, I don’t know if I could have found them. Whew!!

Well I roiled around in my baskets of socks and tamed them. Then I started poking through totes and found some hand needles in a miscellaneous pile. I moved them closer to the other quilting stuff an put a lid on my hand sewing container. That is going to have to count.

Now the UFO thing is very badly needed right now. I am getting ready to go on a retreat and have decided to take 2 Bonnie Hunter quilts with me that are in pieces in a tote. I have to make sure I have the instructions and start thinking about what sewing paraphernalia I will need to take along. I can do this task for sure!

Open any good boxes lately? Come read my decluttering post when you have a minute!

If I did the UFO’s that really need to be worked on it would be a shower curtain and valances BUT I really would rather work on a current project or one set aside earlier this spring. Have a great trip east and on the cruise!

  7. Even though I’m embarrassingly behind in the Procrastination Challenge, I’ve been working the past few weeks on my grandmother’s flower garden hexies. I’m determined to keep the little hatbox where I store them in view so that every day I do some hand stitching. I’ve actually completed several new flowers and feel like there’s hope to actually finish this quilt one day.

I am plugging away on a ufo from 2014. I have been at it for more than a month. I also have a ufo I got to flimsy last month. I want to quilt it. We will see how much longer it takes me.
