Studio Organizing, Week 15

Well . . . How did you do on finding a pile to eliminate?

I was a slacker, and chose my easiest pile — the pile on the landing. Actually, it was the one that was the most in my way, and I was tired of tripping over it.

In that pile, I found fabric that needed to be put away, pieces and parts from 3 different projects, a quilt top that needs to be quilted, a half-finished pillow kit, and some more thread.

Sadly, some of that stuff just got put into another pile, but I did put away the things I knew I had homes for. So small progress, but better than nothing.

And things are in such a mess around here, that I need another such task this week. I’m sorta leaving this one wide open for you — you get to choose for yourself:

Choose one small area that needs attention and work on it

In all the organizing you’ve done so far, is there still one area that you just keep skipping over?

An area that you just keep adding to?

A pile you just haven’t committed to dealing with?

A mess that’s just become such a fixture that you don’t even notice it any more?

I have several of these. But the one I’ve chosen to work on this week is the top of the file cabinet in my office.

I can see at first glance that most of this stuff just needs to be dusted off and put away.

That “fluff” you can see on the top surface is from the attic. The hole for the attic is directly above the file cabinet, and the guys needed to climb up there for something. Every time they do, that “fluff” comes wafting down and gets all over everything. Obviously, it won’t clean itself up, either!

I also evidently thought that piling more stuff on top of it was a good solution!

It’s time to deal with it.

What about you? I’d love to hear what area you’ll be tackling this week!

Ok, I have a pile of books that I was looking at and didn’t put away. I’ll start there. I’m sure they’ll be more. 🙂

I did have my piles cleaned from last week but this morning I made to new piles because I had a clean spot. It is such a vicious cycle. I guess I will try again this week.

I straightened by magazines and cleared a pile off the scrap bin and sorted it into the scrap bags by color.

I had all of my current projects in plastic bags and boxes piled on a table. My daughter treated me to a trip to Ikea and I bought two little sliding mesh basket racks. They fit under my ironing table, and now my projects are stored in see through baskets, ready to pull out and carry to a sewing machine. The bonus is a clear table(for now anyway).

My pile area that has become like a fixture that I no longer notice, is actually right outside my sewing room. It’s mostly paperwork in bins that came from my laundry room during a renovation. It’s time to deal with it. Thanks for the motivation!
