Studio Organizing, Week 11

While mine is much neater, I didn’t get to open up the cabinet. Just didn’t have any extra time for that last week, but maybe soon.
This week’s task is brought on by a gift I received from My Cowboy:
Organize your thread
We did this task almost exactly a year ago, so if you’re like me, it could use it again after a year of rummaging through it and using out of it.
I still have mine organized like I did, and I’ve managed to use up a lot of odds and ends, and even gave some away that I knew I’d never use.
But as I was putting away some of my appliqué thread the other day, I whined to My Cowboy that I wish my two containers matched, so the job would be easier.
And he got right online and found me TWO more identical to my favorite one!
So now I can reorganize my appliqué thread into two identical containers, and I have an extra one that I can find another use for. And I can get rid of the container I don’t like. It just isn’t convenient. Maybe My Cowboy can use it for nuts and bolts and nails down at the barn.
Now my embroidery thread . . . that’s another area that needs attention, but I’m not sure I’ll get to all of it one week.

My thread would be organized if I had a sewing room, or at least that’s what I keep telling myself.
I do have my thread mostly organized. I have a couple of different storage techniques…….depending on what thread it is.
My sewing area is a little better, but once i cleaned it up, I made another mess. 🙁

I am sure I can use this challenge to get it under more control.
I have a rack for my thread. My over stock and seldom used threads I have in an old small suitcase by my cutting table.
I have a pretty good sized 2 sided tackle box for my DMC etc thread of colors I don’t use often. And my regular floss I have in small draws that are usually used for nuts and bolts. Each draw is marked with the color numbers in it so I don’t have to look in each draw.
My rayon Brazilion floss is in it’s own container with the work. I keep those in bags especially made for them. Each bag has a small hole that the thread is fed through. All the bags are kept on rings acording to their type. I have about 50 or so bagged so far and about 50 to go. But that has to wait a while.
Hubby and I are heavily into making quilts for organizations and for one of our poorer Indian tribes here in Maine. Hopefully we will be done by May. We don’t do much quilting in the summer.
May is getting the garden ready to plant and opening the camp for the summer. Busy, busy.
I have similar thread cases and keep spools too large for these cases in a rolling cabinet close to my machine. I plan to clean out a corner that has become me junky this week since my threads are organized.
I have my thread in 9 large drawers, separated by type. My embroidery threads are on a wall rack because I don’t want to sew with them! I can’t imagine how much money I have invested thread!!!
What a nice husband is what I have to say!! My thread is pretty well organized in containers similar to yours.
