Stitch By Stitch Quilt Guild

Last week I had the honor of presenting a trunk show to the Stitch by Stitch Quilt Guild in Marshall, MO. What a fun bunch of gals!

We got together for dinner before the meeting, and I think more than half of them showed up for that! We had some good laughs.

When we got to the meeting, I showed them some of my “Vintage Inspiration” stuff. This trunk show consists of some antique quilts, some old quilt tops that have been finished into new quilts, some projects made from orphan blocks, and other projects made from or inspired by old quilts, vintage linens, and other vintage items.

Then they had a show and tell of some of their Quilts of Valor — absolutely beautiful! And they showed an entire sack of scrap quilt tops.

They showed probably 8 of these scrap quilt tops. They said that someone had rescued a bunch of tops, probably 16 tops total, from a burning house, and donated them to the guild. The guild sold some of them to members, and what they were showing were the ones they have left.

I fell in love with the very first one they pulled out. Totally random scrappiness, wildly and recklessly put together with no rhyme nor reason — fabulously wonderful!

When I got ready to leave, they said that they had talked it over, and they wanted me to have one of the quilt tops, and I could have the one that I fell in love with. Totally made my night! What a treasure! Here it is:Marshallquilt

I can hardly wait to finish it! And then I’ll have yet another quilt to show in my ever-evolving Vintage Inspiration trunk show!

And many thanks to the Stitch by Stitch Quilt Guild for hosting me and inviting me to present, and most of all for the wonderful gift of the quilt top! I promise it will have a good home forever.

Oh, Shelly, what a wonderful quilt! That was a very kind thing they did. I know it will have a good home with you and a new lease on life.

I think it is beautiful!! Look at the colors and the piecing someone did. They didn’t waste a thing. I’m betting this person was someone who enjoyed life and wasn’t afraid of a little fun–totally my kind of quilter–I LOVE IT!!

I adore that quilt top! Lucky you. Looks a little wavy. You’ll have to post when its an actual finished quilt. I vote for red binding (or scrappy).

I love that top also. Almost looks like something I would have made. I’m glad you got it!!!
