Springtime in Arrow Rock

It’s springtime in Arrow Rock, and the Arrow Rock Quilt Camp was ON all this week. It was as much fun as ever, and even tho I did not teach this year, I DID get to go visit all the campers twice! And I’m so glad I did — I think I would have been extra sad if I was sitting at home the entire time knowing they were camping without me.

I visited on the first day of Camp to wrap up last year’s Block-of-the-Month program, the Arrow Rock Samplers. We had a fantastic show and tell of 13 finished Arrow Rock Samplers. And I went back Friday morning to unveil our new Block-of-the-Month program for the coming year.

It’s called “Springtime in Arrow Rock”. They wanted a quilt with a spring theme because Camp always meets in the spring. And since that’s when all the flowers are starting to bloom, I made a quilt with lots of different flowers this time!

It’s a really scrappy quilt, with flowers sprinkled all over it! One of my goals in making this quilt was to not buy anything, and work only from my stash and scraps. So this is a good chance for you to do the same!

“Springtime in Arrow Rock” measures 60″ x 80″. There are 17 different blocks, with some of them repeated, for a total of 51 flowers in the quilt! It’s put together in sections — the piecing is all very straightforward, altho sometimes there are lots of pieces in one block!

This quilt has NO foundation paper piecing, NO partial or set-in or curved seams, and NO appliqué. The border is added section by section, so you don’t even have to contend with long border strips.

If you’d like to make the quilt bigger than it is, you can easily add an outer border to bring up the size.

If you wish to make your background all one fabric to have a less-scrappy look, that’s certainly another option, and would leave some great negative space in which to do some lovely quilting!

The pattern is available in PDF format in my Etsy shop.

I enjoyed making last years sampler. I loved how you did it in large sections and only ran 6 months, so I had time to get it quilted before camp. I also pulled all my fabric from my stash, and plan on doing that again this year. Thanks to you, Shelly for designing this fun project.
