Sharon’s Bali Wedding Star

I recently quilted a Bali Wedding Star quilt for a customer, Sharon, from New Jersey. This quilt is a Judy Niemeyer Quiltworx pattern, paper foundation pieced, and it’s an undertaking!

Sharon’s quilt was all batiks for the colored bits, and various cream fabrics for the background. Totally scrappy, totally works. This was as good a photo as I could get of the entire thing when I was finished. You kinda have to tilt your head sideways — haha!

Also, it was very difficult to get any good photos of this while I was quilting. I tried several different angles at various times of day, but below are some closeups so you can see the quilting.

Sharon chose a bunch of designs from Pinterest that she liked, and then I mixed and matched and adapted and combined those to come up with the designs I used on her quilt.

The repetition killed me! I had to play lots of games with myself to keep going. And it was very difficult to get those little circles in the middle perfectly round, since I had to go around the star points while making them!

I quilted the arcs very simply, and put little leaves in all the corner posts.

The quilt is 80″ x 80″, and I used wool batting in it to give it some great texture. I quilted it with Superior Threads OMNI Cream #3004. I think this is my favorite photo of it:

Here are the rulers I used: QP Curve #15 and BFF (the green ones) by Linda Hrcka of The Quilted Pineapple. The 9″ Slim ruler from Kelly Cline Quilting. And the 2.5″ circle ruler from my set of nested circle templates. All non-computerized quilting on my INNOVA M24.

Sharon has it back, and says she loves it, so to me, in the end, that’s all that matters . . . a happy customer!
