Well, what have you gotten done in the way of organizing the last couple weeks? Me, not much. I did get to clear off some projects from my cutting table and have already replaced those with some different ones.
But now, things are in slow motion (or not moving at all), and I did not get the news I wanted from Doc yesterday. He said something about my humerus might really be broken, and I said: “I’m sure it is — that’s the first thing that broke when I fell!” He rolled his eyes, and said: “I mean the bone in your arm.” I said: “Yeh, well, that’s not very humorous at all.”
I complained that I can’t move my arm at all, in either direction, at the elbow. He said: “There will be a time for that, but it’s not right now,” along with delivering a look that implied I was gonna need to develop some patience. I’m NOT a very patient patient, as My poor Cowboy can attest.
Doc’s making me wear the splint until at least the 20th, and then get another set of x-rays to compare to the initial set. So it looks like I’m in for a long haul. I’m so not happy about it, but have decided I simply have to make the most of it.
So this time the organizing challenge needs to be something I can do with only one good arm. I’ve decided I can:
I need to clean out a drawer of my file cabinet and make room to file some things that are laying out with no home. I can sit by the file cabinet or at the mailing counter and sort papers with only one arm, and it’ll keep me fairly still, so that’s one thing I’m gonna work on. And I’ve got nothing but time to work on it, right? Since I can’t do much else — this may be the chance I really needed to get my paper clutter under control. Wish me luck!
So . . . do you have paper clutter to deal with? What kind of organizing do you think you could handle with only one good arm? Suggestions are welcome — this is gonna be awhile.
I emptied my two drawer file cabinet and sorted and sifted an awful amount of paper… was pretty picky with what went back in. I was exhausted with two arms, pace yourself. It seems simple enough, your posture will be especially important!
I hate that sometimes they have to wait for swelling to subside before they can give a definitive diagnosis. Have a large wastebasket handy and sit by the file cabinet. Have a save box, a maybe box and then the waste basket.
Well, this could be a ‘rabbit hole’ but what about reorganizing Pinterest or digital files or other computer related files?
I always have paper clutter to deal with. https://melsquiltingblog.blogspot.com/2021/09/prairie-moon-decluttering-challenge.html
I have three containers I want to go through this month.
Aw, Shelly, I am so sorry about your arm. That thing about having patience is a hard row to hoe. But, little by little we eventually get to the end of the row. We might be sweaty and dirty, but we got it done. It doesn’t look like it, but I have gone through a pile here and a pile there and I’m close to being ready to throw in the towel with scraps. But, not yet. lol
I got crumb blocks made from my scrap bag. Very slow but doing it by color. Was doing early & late between sanding & painting our trailer. Hope to leave Monday to go visit family in TN. 2nd granddaughter watching so 3rd can have her daddy at birth. So no organizing for me. Hope you get good news at next doc appt. You will figure what can get done with one arm. Continue healing.
Hi Shelly, so very sorry to hear about your arm that is awful. Paper sounds like it may be manageable. Let me know if you have any good suggestions. I have binders to put my quilting & knitting in BUT that internet and all the beautiful patterns I have PILES to sort thru, ughhh.😂🙈🤔
Can you design a new series of quilts with one arm?
I wish I lived next door and could help. At least packing the bags of trash downstairs). Remember my old dream of building a house next door to your house in Callao? Didn’t happen but it could have worked. Maybe! If life hadn’t found other goals.
Shelly, so sorry to hear your update. Never good news to take it easy especially when you are a busy person!! I have been trying to catch up on paperwork for the past week. I put it off as long as I could, but it feels good to see the piles going down and files filling up. Plus it frees up one of my tables. Praying for quick healing for you.
So sorry to hear the news about your arm🥲. Your task is timely as I just received a new file box I ordered…need to organize all the patterns I’ve printed.
Hi Shelly. I’m not doing much in the way of organizing this month since thanks to your monthly challenges I’m pretty well caught up. 😄 Instead I am trying to use up orphan blocks and scraps. I have too many “leftovers” so I’m playing! Sure do hope your arm heals quickly. Having an arm in a sling isn’t my idea of fun! Six weeks for me after surgery before I was allowed to go to physio once a week for my physio to take the sling off, rotate the arm an inch, lift it twice and then put the sling back on. At least at 6 weeks, I could switch to a water proof sling and stand in the shower for 15-20 minutes to ease the tightness with the warm water. See what you have to look forward to? Writing patterns might help keep you sane in between sorting papers? 😉
