I haven’t posted a Studio Organizing Challenge in quite some time! I’ve simply been too busy with deadlines to worry about organizing. Thankfully, the mess didn’t get too much worse while I was in the throes of all that, but still, regular organizing DOES need to happen around here to keep things under control.
And what I’m doing for this month’s challenge is what I feel is a necessary one:
Go back. Pick a task you never got finished with previously. See if you can get it done this time.
This is the only organizing challenge I’m offering during September, so you have plenty of time to revisit one, maybe two, or even three tasks that you did not quite finish the last time they were offered up.
I know the first one I’m gonna tackle is finishing going through my books and magazines. Today. Because our guild rummage sale is tomorrow, and I know I should have something to donate, and then it will be gone from my space. (The trick will be to not buy just as much to bring back home!)
After that, I’m gonna try once more to get my main work table cleared off. What a mess! It still looks pretty much like this (cat included) and so does my ironing board (and this photo is from July!):

And if I manage to get both of those tasks finished, I’ll look back through the list to see if there’s anything else I can tackle before the next organizing challenge in mid-October.
So how about you? Do you have some un-finished organizing tasks you can tackle for the next few weeks? Call it a “Fall Cleaning” — we probably all need one of those!
I need to finish moving all of my fabric from where I used to live to my studio. I got distracted and started playing with everything I’ve previously moved. To make matters worse, my husband and I have done a bit of Shop Hopping during the All Missouri Shop Hop; he’s been picking out fabric and patterns.
I’m giving myself a break this month. Did way too much cleaning and organizing last month. lol
Organizing is sorta okay. Wait, those scrappy pieces just keep wanting to be put into pieced blocks and then sewn together! The scraps are driving me crazy!
I’ve been measuring and marking up the sizes of wool batting remnants, rolling them up, pinning the size on each roll and bagging them up. Made a dent! Little scrappy bits are also bagged for stuffing use. Not started on the cotton batting yet – some will be earmarked for longarm practice sessions. Then for everything else, I have been piling it up and moving it to a new spot instead of finding a home – oops!
I plan to find my floor.
Yes! needed that “nudge.” Put everything away stacked on the cardtable in my fabric room and then put away the cardtable. Easy. Right????
Your encouragement got me to do a big organization of the stuff under my longarm last month. The up side is, it’s soooo neat under there! The down side is, I don’t want to touch anything and mess it up! I’m sure I’ll find a way to keep it clean eventually. Thanks for the monthly encouragement, no matter when it comes.
I’ve been on a month long motorhome trip. I got back, went to stitching on Thursday with the knowledge that a lady 2 hours away was selling off her fabric stash for $3/yd. One of my stitching friends went today and came home with 208 yards of fabric. What will I do with my half of that!!!!
One of my stitching friends went WITH ME.
I am still moving rooms around, this is up my alley! I am lucky to have 3 rooms, one I use only for fabric, only because the heat vent works great in that room. The next room, is books, computer desk ect. the 3rd room is for all other stuff, like trims, thread, encaustic stuff, the excess fabric, ect. did I mention excess? LOL!
I’m still organizing my quilting fabric and supplies from my move. It’s an ‘as I go’ journey and I’m ok with that. Right now I have a deadline for a quilt and I’m almost done quilting it. We leave in 4 weeks for a week long family wedding party in the Chicago area and plan to take it with me for a 4 yr old. We do what we can do………and that’s ok. 🙂
I need to put away fabric from finished quilts and handle the scraps. Maybe i can….
I still haven’t finished organizing my sewing room and now I am moving. It seems that is the only way I can sort and make decisions on what to get rid of. A lot of stuff is going so it will be easier at the other end.
My room is in ok shape right now except I haven’t got my old sewing table moved out. I guess I’m feeling some ambivalence. I think it’s time to decide.
Did a lot of organizing the past few weeks- electrician was coming to put in extra outlets! Put away a lot of paper- still one basket to go through and a small box of books & magazines so I can hopefully donate the box.
Thank you for challenging me- even though we do some of the same tasks I need to redo them as paper accumulates!
