September 350 Blocks Report

Posted on September 30, 2024 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Another lovely month in the books! I hope October is just as lovely.

I spent a lot of time at the longarm this past month, and hope to do that again in October AND November. I’m trying to get all caught up by the end of the year, but also leave myself time for an easy December.

I managed to complete 56 more blocks in September, which raises my total to 488 for the year. I’ve definitely had better years, but at this point, I’m happy getting what I’m getting. Summer was rough around here.

Here’s a bit of what I worked on . . .

This quilt is growing, altho production has slowed down a bit as the decisions needed are getting harder!

I’m eventually making somewhere around 50 of these 25-patch blocks for a quilt that our guild will give to a veteran at our Veteran’s Day presentation in November. I’d best step up my progress — I think I only have about a dozen finished!

I’m seriously behind on my Made & Found blocks, but managed to eke out one more this past month. Here’s Block 11:

And 2 more blocks for my Limerick quilt. This is one I’m anxious to get finished, but can’t seem to find time to work on just yet.

And I leader-endered a couple more blocks for my Postage Stamp quilt. Who knew back in 2012 when I started this that it would end up being more than a 10-year project? And still, I love it so much, I’m contemplating doing another one as soon as this one is finished!

And there you have it — my month in a nutshell. How did yours go?

It’s time to report in with your totals from September. I have the Project Page updated as of this morning (I hope).

Our block goal for October is 31 because October . . . 31 . . . It’s kind of a thing. We’ll just go with it. So our year-to-date total will be 307.

The prize winner for August is KT. She’s up to 310 blocks so far — staying right on track, and almost there!

Wishing all of us a productive October. Happy Stitching!

I made a whopping 18 blocks this month, but in my defense, I finished 7 quilts (most were small wall quilts, though). I’m making a dent in my unfinished quilt tops!

  2. PAULA M MO says:

I have 20 blocks… Started some hand sewing, joining Gotham Quilts class of sewing through Sue Spargo Stitch book. Get some practice in, to breeze through all those kits I found….

  3. ChrisG says:

Absolutely 0 which was a first. Finally got Covid.

  4. Louise says:

COVID finally found me. I haven’t had the energy to do anything but sit quietly and sew or knit or read. Consequently, I had a terrific month of making blocks – 459 blocks.

  5. Kathy P says:

I finished 45 blocks for the month. I moved my machine upstairs and was able to get time here and there on it. I’ve been getting quilts ready for my guilds show in November so most of my energy had been getting those quilts ready.

  6. This month is 0. I had a lot going on. There is always October.

Okay more info. I did thin stack and whack 12 fat quarters. Then you rotate the fabrics. I got lost in the rotations. Ended up with 12 of my blocks. I made two more wonky star variation quilts which used 6 inch block … there were 58 blocks. My sewing group got stuck into our donation quilts for refugees being placed in Northern Maine. Coming from Venezuela, and central Africa. Our winters will be a shock for sure.

  8. Fran says:

Love seeing all your blocks! Thanks so much for posting them! They inspire me.
42 blocks this month, but I feel good about the number as 5 of the blocks were those needle turn appliqué blocks that used to take me a month to make just one,

  9. Linda Knight says:

I made 67 nine patch blocks for my next quilt top. I also bound one quilt and quilted and bound another one. That was in spite of having one week out for covid.

  10. I finally had a quilt retreat to boost my numbers. I completed 50 blocks in September.

  11. A lame 25 blocks for me but we’ve had a busy month that included international travel. I really hoped October would be better but I’m just not sure yet!
I just love your block 11!

  12. Pam Desilets says:

I completed a total of 90 block for September

  13. Stephanie says:

September saw a bit of retreat piecing. 2 row quilts, the equivalent of 12x 9patches each, plus 17 more pieced rectangle blocks to complete a UFO top. I also worked a 3yd pattern, which had 18 pieced blocks in it. Total of 59 blocks.

  14. Sharon Gratz says:

    36 blocks for Sept.
My grandson and family lost almost everything in the house they were renting (not a flood zone) due to flooding from Hurricane Helene. Quilts went with them when they evacuated. They are all safe and living in a nice sized camper here at his parents house. All needs have been met when needed…..living day to day.

  15. Ginabeth says:

I spent 2 weeks traveling to see children and grandkids. Which also took me to quilt shops in Virginia, Florida and a quilt show. More was added to my sewing room than left. I did get 5 quilt backs ready for quilting.
So my block total was 15.
Still stitching away on my 365 embroidery. I’ll total in those in a later month.

  16. Deanna says:

September added 65 blocks, and more prepped (hoping) for October. I have four tops at the quilter, so the blocks were productive moving-towards-a-finish blocks.

  17. Diana S says:

43 blocks this month for my Texas Theme quilt. Top is done and ready to be quilted. Did get 2 smaller quilts bound and ready for Linus. Finally got started on a Quilt Along- about 6 weeks into it. I do have clue 1 done. Back to making holiday dog scarves/bandanas too. And yes still sorting!

  18. Karen E. says:

I made 58 blocks this month for a YTD total of 670.

  19. Dianne in Alabama says:

I forgot to add August… a big whopping 3! Did better in September with 52. I think my total when these are added is 279. Not bad for me😝. I’ve also bound 53 QOV for two different groups. Love being able to help in a small way.

  20. KT says:

School started again, so not as much time, but I did finish 20 blocks in September.
Woo Hoo! I’m a winner! Thanks so much!

  21. Rose P says:

Love your blocks. A postage stamp quilt in on my bucket list.
A BIG FAT ZERO for me this month. When we returned from the road trip, I loaded a customer quilt. When I got to the bottom it was curved. Not knowing if it was her piecing or my quilting, I ripped the quilting from the entire quilt (25+ hours) and started over. Not my quilting. Still curved but not as bad.

  22. Joan says:

Eleven blocks done. Focusing on hand quilting, which brings a couple of quilts closer to being done. Fun to see what you are working on. My leader ender currently is to use up 1 1/4″ strips and squares cut from scraps. That sounds small, but it’s not once the small squares are initially made into 4-patches or strips the sewing into courthouse steps & pickette fence blocks goes fast. But I keep telling myself to focus on hand quilting for now and only one block a day!!!

  23. Rose Marie Smith says:

I didn’t make a block. Recovering from hip break takes life to a new place. But I did get one finished by a quilter and I was able to cut and sew on binding! Whew. One finished.

  24. Marlene Clausen says:

20 blocks for September. That equals another QOV top done. This one was so much FUN to piece. I knew when I saw the pattern a few years ago, it would make a great QOV and I was right. It is Cabin Fever, a free pattern from FiveFatQuarterFun. I cut it and the QOV I made last month by pulling a bunch of fat quarters and cutting all in one sitting. Worked perfectly! I so LOVE this quilt. I “grew” the quilt by making the setting 4 x 5 instead of 3×4 to meet QOV requirements. It was so much fun, I will probably make another one (at least!) in a completely different set of fabrics.

  25. Amanda says:

I made 13 blocks in September which isn’t bad for me. I have been working on my hand embroidery and making good progress since starting it for my 100 Days project. I hope to have better results for October.

  26. Kelly Powers says:

I made 36 blocks for charity quilts plus 2 pieced backings and pieced sets of borders, 29 leader/ender blocks and 1 EPP block for a total of 68 blocks. Plus I long arm quilted 1 quilt, made 4 dresses for my daughter and granddaughters, and did a LOT of cutting.
I was also sidelined for most of a week with a sewing injury.

  27. Angie in SoCal says:

Finished 29 blocks for September. That’s all I had time for. Life is busy right now.

  28. September was a busy month, with only 24 blocks finished, but I did make 22 placemats for our guild’s upcoming Christmas market.

  29. Patti says:

Happy with my count of 132. Made quite a few 4 patch blocks which definitely helped. Starting 2 brand new quilts, since I finished 3 tops that will go to charity.

  30. Ioleen says:

I only managed 10 blocks in September. Hope to do more in October as the weather is getting colder.

  31. Paula Mo says:

I had 20 for September. Will try to double that for October.

  32. Moira Ten-Hove says:

I completed 36 blocks for my mystery QAL plus a test block for Denys Schmidt’s Wagon Wheels so a total of 37 for me.

  33. Tanya says:

Happy Fall! I made 60 blocks while cleaning out all the scraps and orphan blocks. I was able to make several quilts and donated them all. Sewing is such a good stress releasing activity for me. Enjoy pumpkin spice season!🎃

  34. Suelynn Williams says:

Wow, I’m happy to read everyone’s notes and see your progress! My daughter came to visit last weekend. We went to the local quilt show together. I cleared my sewing table so she could sew…didn’t happen! I finished binding a quilt and started binding another one at a friend’s ‘sew day.’ I finished a mystery quilt top! Made 30 blocks in September.

  35. Carissa says:

It looks like you are finally settling in to your new studio, how exciting! I spent a lot of time sewing not piecing in September, but I was able to make 19 blocks. My big sewing project is finished, so I’ll have time to do more quilting in October.

  36. Bev C. says:

I made 65 blocks in Sept. I also sandwiched, quilted and bound one quilt. A number of days I cut scraps more days than I wanted ). As of right now, I am all caught up and waiting for the last clue to a mystery quilt.

  37. Diane O says:

Love your scrappy blocks. Got 146 blocks done this month. Did manage to put borders and bindings on several charity quilts. Making good progress towards my goal of 24 long twin quilts for charity donation June of 2025.

  38. Judy Smith says:

I don’t think I had any blocks this month. I put some things together, but the blocks were made. Do borders and bindings count?

  39. Paula Mu says:

Not many blocks this month. 13 in my snow button quilt, 2 Branching out blocks,9 apple blocks and 5 leaf blocks for our guild program. Hopefully next month will be better.

  40. Ceil Podzimek says:

I had a total of 93 blocks for September – 24 for a tractor panel quilt with log cabin blocks, 24 for the background blocks for my virtual group quilt along of Tula Pink blocks, 16 for a flannel Daisy Chain quilt, 5 for a gemstone bouquet flannel quilt, and 24 for a KC Chiefs throw for my grandson for him to use at his frat. Now I have 6 quilts sandwiched and ready to quilt!

  41. Debbi says:

Your blocks look great. I really like the made and found block, great colors. For me it was 19 blocks. Not really sure what else I did 🤪. I got a flimsy put together and made some pillow covers, not sure that accounts for the whole month. Hopefully I will be more focused in October. Going to retreat next weekend for which I have blocks cut out and ready to go for a few projects. I have been known to get sidetracked tho😂. Happy Fall!

  42. Barbara B says:

    177 blocks for September

  43. Ginny says:

Well we are back home and I can now give you my Sept report. 11 blocks for Sept. Don’t remember if I wrote that I had 0 for August.
Sewing room is pretty much together but having a lot of interference getting to it.
A win win is that I have a late 1970’s Kenmore is back fully functional. It is my go to for heavy sewing and it was not zigzaging at all. Cleaned with help from Mr Kenmores Neighborhood FB people; it is all cleaned oiled and working!

  44. Kerry says:

I managed 16 blocks for the border and one little 9 patch! Getting there! The rest of the room is a mess though!

  45. Kathi Benchley says:

23 blocks in September for me. Been swamped with canning and babysitting so far this month!

  46. Susan Siemens says:

oops forgot to report in! I made 102 blocks! I saw a picture on a group of a scrap quilt and I really liked it. i didnt sew much else BUT I bought a long arm at the end of the month so have been busy clearing out a room and setting it up.
