September 350 Blocks Report

Posted on September 30, 2023 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

We sure had a lovely month of September around here. We could use some rain, but the weather has been lovely. I hope it continues for several more months! It was a busy month, and my time was so chopped up that there were days when it didn’t even make any sense to try to fire up the longarm for no more time than I had, so it seemed like I got a bit more time at the small machine for piecing.

In spite of myself, I surprisingly managed to get another 94 blocks made this month.

I made two more blocks for my Blast from the Past quilt. Block 17:

And Block 18. It was brought to my attention that even when I’m done with the blocks, there are still filler bits to put together, so I think I have further to go than I thought, even tho I am more than halfway done with the blocks now. Maybe I can speed it up in the next few weeks?

I finished another Pineapple block. I’m sure you probably think I just keep showing you the same block over and over and telling you I’m making progress, since they all look so much alike, but I really am getting further along! I’m still not quite to the halfway point with these, but I’m sure trying to get there.

I’m still working on mystery quilts, too, and I managed another block for my Made in USA quilt. I’m anxious to get this one finished since I plan to donate it to my guild for their Veteran’s Day quilt presentation in November. This pattern is by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts, and I figured it was a great way to use up some scraps.

One more block for Patchwork City, also moving along very slowly, but every block is progress.

Two more blocks for my Limerick quilt. Also moving very slowly, but moving, nonetheless.

Now it’s your turn! How did you do in September? It’s time to report in. I love hearing what you’re all working on.

The Project Page is updated as of today, and our new block goal for October is 37 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 284.

The August prize winner is Suelynn! She’s up to 240 blocks so far!

And that wraps up another month! I hope you have a lovely October.

I completed 2 blocks in September!!

You are not the only one!
      I’ll join group-twosome.
Travel and longarming quilting took precedence this month.

      Onward to October.

  2. Carissa says:

Isn’t it nice when you have more block finished than you expected? I’ve been sewing a lot of Dresden plates, which means a lot of sewing before I can applique them down. Sometimes that’s the way it goes. Even still, I did piece 52 blocks this month. I hope that I can keep up the momentum!

  3. Rose says:

I completed 3 quilts but only 20 blocks.

  4. Ginabeth says:

    I worked on several projects.
hand piecing, appliqué, labels binding, embroidery and machine piecing.
    I think I have 3 BOW going😳.
So I had a total of 93 for the month. Just under your total. But I feel good because I finished several quilts so far this year (16) so far. (8 were UFOs)

Thanks again for keeping the totals📍

  5. Fran says:

Made only 84 blocks this month, but I so enjoyed making each one of them. Have three quilts ready for the long arm quilter, worked on appliqué, and hand sewed binding on three quilts.

  6. denniele says:

Too many other things happening in September. Zero blocks this month! But you looked like you were busy!

  7. ChrisGG says:

195 blocks this month which totally surprised me. Will probably slow down in October as it looks to be a very busy (away from machine) month.

  8. Kathi Benchley says:

I completed 5 whole blocks in September. I’ll be glad (maybe) when cold weather hits so I can stay inside and sew!

  9. Kathy P says:

I finished out the month strong finishing 66 blocks. It felt good to make great progress.

  10. Ioleen says:

Still no sewing! Physio is going well so hopefully I can do a little sewing this month.

  11. Linda Knight says:

I feel pretty good about finishing 44 blocks and quilting and binding 3 small quilts. I also hand bound a large quilt for my sister-in-law that had scallops all around. Other folks had told her to cut them off and bind it straight but it’s so pretty with the scallops.

  12. Tina Parr says:

I was feeling disappointed in my quilting this month until I reflected back on September and realized I gave five quilts to Maui, gifted three to family, and finished binding on a project I had been reluctant to start. So last night I finished an applique block so I could do mine to the this month’s goal! This was my first time so thank you for letting me join your group.

  13. Louise says:

It was a great month – 154 blocks and two completely finished quilts.

  14. Tanya says:

You are making lots of progress! I always tell myself that progress is progress no matter how slow I go 😁I started the Moda Blockheads 5 so I will try to make at least one new block a week. Fingers crossed. Still working away on my Atomic Starburst blocks. I was able to get 47 blocks made in September. Happy fall to y’all. 🍂 🍁

  15. Ginny says:

I need to report August a 3 blocks and Sept 1 block. Wonderful travels and visiting family. Home for a while. Need to do 84 blocks to finish well for the year. Been making aprons as teaching a sewing class this coming Sat. for ladies from the church. Sewing batting pieces together to make useable sizes for quilts.
Enjoy your colorful fall and cool fall.

  16. Ginny says:

August 3 blocks, Sept.1 Traveling and visiting family. I really need to start a Pineapple quilt amongst all the others I want to do. Oh well which ones first.

  17. Dianne D says:

Only three for me! But happy to report I made progress on lots of other projects! It’s such fun tracking the blocks. Thanks again for offering the challenge and keeping up with them for us!

  18. Sharon Gratz says:

Only 20 blocks in Sept, but I’m ok for the year for blocks done. Time to pull out the luggage and get this wedding party/family fun time week in the works. We aren’t leaving for 2 weeks, but that’s ok. 🙂

  19. Wendy says:

September was a rollercoaster month with an anniversary trip, a death in the family, another trip – uffda! Only 4 blocks for me.

  20. Suelynn Williams says:

Thank you, Shelly. This month I made 20 blocks before the sewing machine did its thing (was repaired in June, and same problem happened again). The good part of this situation is getting to finish the binding on a mystery quilt and its ready for show and tell at our October group gathering. I cut fabric for a small fall project. I’d like to get labels made for the quilt I just finished binding and the one I’m binding now (a UFO).

  21. Stephanie says:

    Ohh such lovely blocks Shelly!
I worked on 48 blocks in September, but only finished 24 of them. So, 24 it is!

  22. KT says:

Just 25 blocks for me in September, but I did finish a quilt and another project. Back to school means less sewing time, but that’s ok, because I love my job!

  23. Rose Marie Smith says:

I finished only 42 blocks in September. But I did manage to complete several moderate lapsize quilts for charity. So October will be about quilting them. Number of blocks don’t matter if they aren’t put into something!!!

  24. Paula M Mo says:

    I have 6 …. I unpicked 50 …. !
    A top I started when I retired in 2015…

  25. Diana S says:

You are making good progress on your blocks. Some do seem to take longer than others! I did manage to sew in September. While sorting through stuff to keep or get rid of I found 3 simple kits- 2 skinny runner kits from Cozy Quilt and a kit from the Fat Quarter shop. Simple easy blocks so only counted half- 40 blocks. Started another scrappy rail fence-have 51 blocks made so far. Did put together a top from blocks previously made. Can’t count them again! They’re a couple years old I think. But the top is done and just needing borders. Also am working on another one, blocks made a while ago. So it is feeling good to get a few WIP’s almost done. Happy with 91 total for September!

  26. Two retreats in September…139 blocks! YAY…

  27. Angie in SoCal says:

Made 40 blocks this month mostly for a miniature quilt I’m doing using a lots of scraps . Love you

  28. Debbi says:

You have so many different blocks going. Your Blast from the Past are great colors…looking forward to seeing how yours turns out. I made a flying geese border for mine and got it all together, plan is to get it quilted so I can take it to retreat next weekend. The pineapple blocks you show get me every time. I love them but boy I know they take time!

I made 194 blocks this month and have two tops to put together. Both simple to moderate amount of piecing so that helps the number 😊. I didn’t get to longarming as I planned. By the time I get to it in the day I’m too tired to start. Have to go back to doing it first thing like I did during my past challenge.

  29. Darlene Y says:

I completed 8 potatoe chip blocks- 28 friendship blocks & 2 BOM for a total of 38. I did a lot of organizing and cutting scraps into usable sizes. We will see what next month brings.

  30. Randy Menninghaus says:

congrats on your block I got 23 made!!!

  31. Bev C. says:

I made 52 blocks this month. Decided I wanted a challenge and started a scrappy New York Beauty. Yes, challenging. Paper piecing is not my favorite technique. I did finish 2 quilts.
    I love your quilts.

  32. Katie Z. says:

I made 99 blocks this month. Somehow that feels both too few and too many! Ah, well.

    Good work on yours!

  33. Deanna says:

September brought 28 more blocks, same as August. I tend to slow down when school starts.

  34. I ended up with 46 blocks for September.

  35. Joan says:

56 blocks done, whilte working on two Halloween quilts. One is a round robin challenge due this month with one more round to do. The other was log cabin blocks made from leftover scraps. Got all of the log cabin blocks done, now need to sew rows and borders to complete the top.

I’m also keeping up with the 100 day challenge and making lots of progress there! Thanks for keeping us motivated.

  36. Only 30 for me (more of a month of finishes).

  37. Cindy Wienstroer says:

Sad month for me – 11 total. But Oct is granddaughters camping trip to TN & CO. Will try to do some hand-sewing.

  38. Marsha P says:

No blocks for me this month. I became annoyed with the number of tops to be quilted so I’m concentrating on that. I love your pineapple blocks. I’ve wanted to do one for awhile.

  39. Susan says:

I never tire of seeing your pineapple blocks. keep them coming! I managed to make 99 blocks this month. 34 of them were 4 patches and 65 were flying geese. Therapy sewing after an emergeny trip due to family health issues. thanks for keeping us motivated.

  40. Paula Mu says:

Shelly, your block photos look so pretty this month! I made 71 blocks this month. 1 BOM with Sherry McConnell, 12 Scrappy spools, 4 Celebration, 5 Jacqelynn Steves Sew Happy, and 49 Harmony blocks. Not as many as some months, but not too bad. Sorry for the late post. Life was busy this month. Hope everyone gets lots of sewing done in October.

  41. Cathy k says:

I made 213 blocks in September, which was a big surprise. it’s nice to have a productive month.

  42. Pam Desilets says:

It looks like I forgot to submit my block count for September. I finished 43 block.

  43. Ceil Podzimek says:

Feeling really behind this month. I had 7 blocks for September – all for the guild row x row quilt we are working on. It was my last row for someone else’s quilt. I can’t wait to get all my rows back and see what I have!

  44. Danice says:

Wow, late reporting. I fell lat month and hurt my arm, so made zero blocks. Doing better now, back to sewing.
