See Rock City

If you’ve ever driven anywhere in Tennessee, you can not possibly have missed noticing at least one sign declaring “See Rock City“.

My sister and I have both seen these signs often, but neither of us had ever actually taken that advice and gone to see it.

So while we were there this time, we did.

It’s a beautiful place!

To think that this was someone’s private property, and they did all this to it to make it so wonderful for the public, and then opened it up for the public to enjoy, is just incredible!

There are so many tunnels, bridges, overpasses, and underpasses . . .

And skinny places to squeeze through . . .

This one is even called “Fat Man’s Squeeze”. And you do indeed have to squeeze through it sideways!

There is a swinging bridge:

There is a deer park (this one was just relaxing):

There is Fairyland Caverns:

And there’s Lover’s Leap. This is the view from Lover’s Leap:

There’s also a lovely waterfall:

And when you get to the top where you can see seven states all at the same time, there’s a cafe!

And just beside the cafe, is the house that belongs to the property, still being used as a private residence. Can you imagine living there with such gorgeous views?

I know there has to be some other way to get to the house other than hiking the Enchanted Trail through Rock City that we did. Otherwise, that would be a looooong way to have to carry all your groceries, and how would you have ever gotten your couch through Fat Man’s Squeeze?

When we left Rock City, we drove down Lookout Mountain, and went to Ruby Falls.

RubyFalls

Ruby Falls is a 145-foot waterfall located 1120 feet underground. When you go on the tour, they explain to you how it was discovered by Leo Lambert in 1928, and that he named the falls after his wife, Ruby.

It’s amazing. Had it been up to someone like me to discover such a wonder, it would still be hidden. That Leo was sure a brave man!

Mind you, my sister and I still hadn’t been to the quilt show yet, but these are two more places I’d highly recommend you go see if you get the chance. I’ll tell you about the quilt show and some more of our sightseeing tomorrow.

Gorgeous sites!! I was in Chattanooga for one semester during college but didn’t get to do any sightseeing. I’m now wishing I had!
