Scenes From My Trip to the Post Office

Our nearest Post Office is 21 miles away, in the town of Dunning. It takes nearly an hour to make the round trip, but sometimes it just has to be done.
So today I took along my camera and shot some of the scenery between here and there so I could share it with you. Here we go . . . it’ll be like you’re right in the truck with me!
It’s really beautiful here. 
There’s nothing for miles except the Sandhills.
Not some people’s idea of wonderful, but I love it.
Long stretches of road with no one else out there. 
On this particular trip, I met two other vehicles on the way there . . .
. . . and two on the way back. That’s it.
This is our Post Office. Tiny little place.
It kinda all starts to look the same after awhile, huh?
This is the town of Brewster. Population 12. We live 7 miles from town, to the east.
This is our mailbox. It’s three and a half miles from our house. When the postlady has packages, she calls us first, and tells us what time she’ll be there, and we can drive down and meet her to get them. Everyone is so friendly here.
While we’re waiting, this is the view we see across the road from the mailbox.
And here’s my favorite scenery of the whole drive. This is about a half mile from our house.
That’s the North Loup River there, and it runs right through our back yard. 
I can walk out my back door and within two minutes be standing on the river bank. The other day I saw a bald eagle flying over the river.

Shelly, I so enjoyed taking a trip to the Post office with you. I enjoyed the scenery as well, I love the open country and love that you have the river so close, it is beautiful! to me, you cannot beat all that nature has to offer.
Thank you for sharing your views of your part of the world with us. The land certainly fits the description in some of the books I read recently about settlers in Nebraska in the 1890s and early 1900s. It looks like the drought took a toll there, too, last summer.
Absolutely wonderful. Our idea of paradise, too. 🙂 When I was a kid, driving across Nebraska with my parents on the way to Colorado, these sights were the bane of my existence! Soooo…..boooorrrrriiiiiinnnnngggggg! I couldn’t wait to get out of Nebraska. Now, I want to be there. Hope you are well, my friend. Hugs.

Talk about Wide Open Spaces! Wow. At least you don’t have to worry about rush hour traffic!

This kind of cracks me up, because we always talk about how boring the drive across Kansas or Nebraska gets after a while… But you are right, the Plains have their own kind of beauty. I finally looked up your little town, and holy cow, you are a long way from home, and 7 1/2 hours from here!
Love the pictures and your comments about them! Phil and I looked up your neighborhood — we drove through that area several years ago. The Midwest is a beautiful place. We are looking forward to hearing more about your new home!
The Great Plains are wonderful and scenic in their own way. Missouri is pleasant, too. I saw an eagle on my way to town yesterday at Bear Creek.
