Quilting for Hire

I’m back today to tell you a little more about my upcoming book: Quilting for Hire.

I wanna give you a bit more information about what’s included in the book. Here’s a look at the Table of Contents:

The book is in two parts. The first part is all about quilting quilt tops for customers — here’s a few things that are included:

  • • Getting or upgrading your machine
  • • Setting up your workspace
  • • Tools and supplies you might need
  • • All the business side of things you need to think about and take care of
  • • Marketing your business and spreading the word that you’re available

The second part of the book is about making quilts start-to-finish for customers:

  • • Pricing your work
  • • Tools and equipment you’ll need
  • • Getting help if you need it

There’s a lot of information packed into the pages of this book, and it’s set up like a workbook, so that you can ask yourself all the pertinent questions, fill in your answers, do your research, and think things over that are relevant to your particular situation.

To quote myself:

“Your business will not look like anyone else’s business, and that is just fine. Being unique is good!”

One thing I love about the book is that you can use it to tailor your business to your own life and situation. And don’t think that there’s not a place for you in this business, either. Longarm quilters are in high demand right now, and you might as well be one of them, if that’s what you want to do!

I talked to a man yesterday who does contracting work on houses. He said he’s booked up into next summer already. I thought to myself: “Well, that sounds familiar!” He added: “If you’re not, then you’re probably not worth hiring — it’s just that busy right now!” YOU could be like that as a quilter — just imagine it!

The book also has lots of sample forms, sample contracts, and other worksheets to help you along the way. Many of these will be available for free download, so that you can print them out and use them as many times as you like. I’ll provide that link once the book is available.

Also, I’ll be posting extra information here on the blog periodically, and we’ll be working through some of the exercises together along the way, so stay tuned!

If you’d like to get a signed copy of Quilting for Hire, you can pre-order it in my Etsy shop now — it will ship in late January as soon as I can get my hands on it my ownself — I’m so excited to send this out into the world! I hope it helps so many people, and saves them some of the headaches I went through while getting started.

Thank you to all those who have already pre-ordered!

    Hey Shelly,

I am currently reading your book “Quilting for Hire” and love all the helpful information. I have been trying to access the downloadable forms, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Has the url changed or is there another way to access the forms?
