Pecan Valley Fun

We do this twice a year, and it’s always a total blast. We go to the Comfort Inn in Chillicothe, and what a wonderful place to have it. We never want for anything, and the hotel is one of the nicest ones I’ve ever stayed in (and I’ve traveled a lot).
We sew . . . and laugh . . . and eat . . . and play games . . . non-stop for 3 days, and I just can never even express how much fun it is.
I did more sleeping this time than I wanted to, but I was just so exhausted going into the weekend that I needed it. But I still got a lot done. The first day, I finished this quilt top.
It was all pieced and just ready to set together, and all I had to do was join the rows. Someone at guild gave this away in a grab bag! I loved the fabrics, and it took no time at all to finish up. I’m going to give it back as a Community Service quilt. Don’t you think some little girl will absolutely love this?
There were a few odd leftover pieces, so I used them to make this block. Score 1 for the 350 Blocks Project!
I didn’t get pictures of everyone’s projects, but I did get several, so I’ll show you here what some of the others were working on.

Here’s our group on Sunday morning. I look completely exhausted still. But I promise I had a blast! I was the reigning Queen of the Retreat, so I still had on my tiara. At the end of the retreat, a new Queen was crowned, so now Barbara D. will carry it proudly through the next retreat. I feel so free!
We played games, won prizes, got awards, and ate like royalty. And there were plenty of laughs! I’ll leave you with a few of them (as it is my usual style to collect quotes from any event I attend):
“I don’t think that’s quite what they meant by ‘the early bird gets the worm’.”
“There’s the potential for great amounts of frustration with this project.”
“I’m gonna finish these snowballs tonight if it hairlips the gov’ner.”
“Does my quilt have four corners?”
“I’m NOT sorry.”
“I think I’m gonna perish if I don’t have a cookie.”
“You’re gonna die of a heart attack, and he’s gonna die of stupidity.”
“OK, let me analyze this.”
“I’d hafta write that down.”
“When I grow up, I wanna be Shelly.”
“You’ll be glad to know, the gov’ner’s safe.”
“My quilt has four corners!”
And we played a game where everyone gets a safety pin, and a forbidden word is announced. If you say the forbidden word, and someone catches you, you have to give them your pin (plus any pins you’ve collected from others throughout the game). The person with the most pins at the end of the game is the winner. Our forbidden word was “fabric”. Do you know how hard it is to avoid saying that word during a quilting retreat?
At one point, the following conversation took place: “Give me your pin!”
“Ooh, did she say the F-word?”
“Yep. I think she said both of them when I took her pins.”
Don’t you wish you were there?

Loved your recap of the weekend! You captured the fun in words & pictures. Thanks for remembering the one-liners…. They were priceless & now I can go back and relive the weekend any time. It was a blast!

Sounds like a blast! I love your first quilt. Wow. It’s amazing! Well done! I slept and worked on a retreat recently, too. More than I wanted to.
