Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Show

Yesterday My Cowboy and I took a day trip to Springfield, MO, so that I could see the Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Show. He went off and did his own thing while I was at the show. I asked him if he wanted to come in, and he said: “Nope. I have to look at that stuff all day every day at home. I’m outta here!”

So I had a few hours to see the show, and let me just say right now — I could have used a few more hours there — I had to rush through the last little bit of it. They have nearly 500 quilts just in the show portion — let alone all the special displays they have scattered around! And I had to practically run through the vendors, which was actually a good thing — it kept me from carting home even more stuff to pile on my cutting table, which, if you follow me on InstaGram, you can see is in dire need of an intervention!

I did manage to get some pictures of some of my favorite quilts there, and evidently, I’m in “fall mode”, because the dark-colored ones were calling to me! So without further ado, here are some pictures, a full and a close-up of each one, along with the information on who made each beautiful creation.

Visiting the Past, by Janice Woodring, quilted by DJ Maas. I love all the blending in this one — it looks cozy!

Happy Saturday, by Nancy Mix Yeomans. I love and adore her use of the tiny squares to set them together — genius use of scraps!

The Farmer’s Wife, by Carmen Tesch. This makes me want to get my Farmer’s Wife quilt back out and finish it up! I love her fussy-cut sashing.

Sprinkled With Love, by Joyce Sanders, quilted by Peggy Glassgow. Love this collection of the cutest little watering cans. The little details are wonderful.

Shoofly Modified, by Sharon Paulson, quilted by Shirley Hensley. I love everything about this quilt!

Geese On the Pond, by Joyce Kassner, quilted by T. Smith. Look closely — that is NOT cheater fabric in that huge border — it’s all pieced! I was so impressed, mainly because I realize what a huge amount of persistence had to have gone into this one. Furthermore, it’s NOT machine quilted — that’s HAND quilting — I’m just impressed all the way around with this one!

Flower Garden Shirts, by Charlotte Taylor, quilted by Jo Bolton. This quilt is made entirely of thrifted men’s shirts (with the exception of the green vine). It’s so soft and cozy looking.

Here’s the quilt that won Best Machine Quilting. The quilting was expertly done by Juanita Long. The top was a group effort by May Black, Ted Black, and Phyllis Hargis, and is a Judy Niemeyer design, Vintage Rose.

And here’s the quilt that got Best of Show. It’s called Quahadi, by Marla Yeager. It’s her own original design, and she did all this on her domestic sewing machine! I studied this one for way too long — it’s incredibly impressive!

Apparently, scrap quilts are high on my radar right now. Could that have anything to do with the huge amount of fabric I’m in possession of and have big plans of using up?

I hope this gives you a bit of inspiration, and if you’re anywhere near the Springfield, MO, area, I encourage you to go see the show. It’s still on all day Saturday (September 29) at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds — so easy to get to, and the venue is fantastic. And did I mention there are vendors? Lots of them!

Heck, even if you’re not in the area, it’s worth the drive — it’s a long drive for me, and I thought it was well worth it. My Cowboy and I got home just in time for evening chores, and entered the house to find that the dog had pooped in the middle of the living room floor, AND drug ALL the contents of the trash can all over the kitchen! (Am I the only one this ever happens to?) So instead of getting to sit down and relax, I had to shovel out the kitchen and mop the floor — and clean up poop! That kinda squelched the euphoric feeling of inspiration I had from the quilt show, but today, I’m back to quilting.

Whatever you’re doing, have a great weekend!

I was there ALL DAY Thursday! From 9 until 5, a long day but! I went with a friend and it took us until 3:00 to see the quilts! The vendors deserved another whole day alas, we could only give them 2 hours! Still made some purchases.

I’ve lived within an hour of this show for 24 years and this was my First visit! I WILL go again, next time! I’m glad you got to go, wish we could have met.

I was also impressed with the effect of that simple nine patch with the floral alternate blocks. I think I have some of that fabric in my stash, but would not of thought of using it that way. It’s beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for sharing our show on your post. It’s so rewarding to have a show like ours meet with such a warm reception. Surely makes the work of our guild members worth every minute of planning and working on this quilting celebration.
