Our Quilt Show

If you were there, then you were treated to a wonderful display of quilts. If you weren’t, then you missed out, but I’m here to give you a tour of some of it!
It’s always a fun time, and this time was no exception. We have a display of our Community Service quilts, a bedturning, vendors, a raffle quilt, and this year, we had approximately 130 quilts displayed in the show itself. It’s a lot of work by guild members to put this show on every year, but it’s so worth it, and I must say we did a good job again this year!
This year’s theme was “Reflections of Freedom”, so we had lots of patriotic-ness going on around the show floor. Here’s Kay, Jane, and Linda doing the bedturning:
The bedturning is always popular, a very well-attended portion of our show.
We have Viewer’s Choice voting during our show, and that is how the awards are handed out. We give 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons in each of 11 categories. I took pictures of all the first-place winners so you can have a peek at the show yourself, in case you didn’t get to go.
In the Small Art Quilts/Wallhangings category, Anna R. took first place with her quilt, “Spring Fever”:
In the Large Art Quilts/Wallhangings category, Diane B. won with her “Counting Our Blessings” quilt:
Baby/Youth Themed quilts was won by “Jaxon’s Farm Quilt”, made by Donna M.:
Ashley H. was our winner in the Youth category (these are quilts made by quilters under the age of 18):
We had 18 quilts in the Hand Quilted category, and Nadine B. walked away with first prize for her “Country Love” quilt:
In the Computer Guided Machine Quilted category, Marsha Y.’s “Circles of Love” quilt took the top prize:
We split our Hand Guided Machine Quilted quilts into two categories — those under 82″ in width, and those 82″ and over in width.
In the under 82″ category, Peggy C. got a blue ribbon for her “Smith Mountain Morning” quilt, made from a Bonnie Hunter pattern:
In the over 82″ category, Alice A. won it with her “Oh my stars, look at those rings!” creation:
Donna M. won yet another blue ribbon with her quilt, “Facts and Fabrications: Unraveling the History of Slavery” quilt, in the Machine Quilted: Mixed Techniques category:
Our Quilt Guild Challenge category is open only to members, and displays the quilts from our yearly guild challenge. This year’s challenge display was our Strip Challenge quilts, and the top honor went to Cathy P., with her “Dad’s Ties” quilt:
Our final category is of antique quilts, quilts that are at least 50 years old. An Irish Chain quilt owned by Michele B. garnered the first-place ribbon in this category:
And we had a raffle quilt designed around our theme this year. Our “Reflections of Freedom” raffle quilt was designed by Michele Breault using EQ7 Quilt software, pieced by Michele, Susan Guffey, Scarlett Ledford, and Peggy Clark, and quilted by me. It was 105″ square, a huge and beautiful creation.

I’m sorry I missed the show, and I think Sarah’s graduation is that weekend next year. Maybe I can make the following year’s show. Love that raffle quilt. It was huge. You did an exquisite job of quilting it!!!
Some year, when I’m heading west for a visit with friends, I’ll plan it around your show so I can come. I love the idea of veiwer’s choice making the awards! What beautiful quilting you did on the raffle quilt, and that woman who won is very lucky indeed.
