Option Expedition

Victoria Findlay Wolfe has a new series of work now showing! She worked hard on these pieces over the last couple years, which means she kept me busy with these pieces as well. I have to say I breathed a big sigh of relief when we finished the last one for this exhibit!

There will be more in the future, but for now, we are both moving house (which was coincidental good timing that we are both moving at the same time), so she is taking a break from this series, and I’m just doing random stuff for a while.

The current exhibit opened yesterday at the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. It will be there through December 14th, in the Coryell Gallery.

It’s called “Option Expedition”, and we’ve been affectionately referring to these quilts as the “Big Red Dot” quilts. It’s been fun watching Victoria play with these designs and the evolution of the Big Red Dots as each quilt came to life.

I’m so excited to get to go see them hanging all together at the museum. It’ll be so fantastic to see them all in one space.

Victoria is giving a talk about the exhibit on May 3rd at the museum, so I’m planning to be there for that. I hope if you have any chance at all to go to the museum while these quilts are there, you can take advantage of the opportunity to see this exhibit (not to mention other great exhibits they will have going on — any trip to the museum is worth it).

There is a catalog available about the “Option Expedition” exhibit — you can get it at Victoria’s web site, or at the museum.

These quilts were not super easy to quilt. Keeping everything straight, lots of ruler work, lots of thread changes, lots and lots of knots to tie. And . . .

Sooooo much red thread! And my machine is NOT computerized. Every single line of the quilting is hand driven. After the first quilt, I was nearly driven to distraction walking around and around my machine, so My Cowboy made me a special stick I could use to lock and unlock my channel locks from the front of my longarm without having to circle the machine every time.

But I was able to console myself with the knowledge that I didn’t have to bind them!

And looking at them now, I realize it was all worth it! They are so fabulous, and I’m so excited to get to see them hanging all together. If you can make it to the museum on the evening of May 3rd, Victoria and I would love to see you there!

If you can’t get there, at least pick up a copy of the catalog, so you can get a look at all the quilts. They’re so amazing!

You two make such a great team. It must be very exciting to see this huge project done and hanging in the museum. We’re headed that direction in early May (leaving on the 4th, maybe we should leave a day earlier – haha) – maybe we can swing in so I can see this! Congrats to both of you!

Hope I can get to the exhibit after we are done moving. We’ll be 5 hours closer. Should be moving July if our house sells quickly. Bought a house near Stillwater OK , closing May 17 with possession June 12.

That looks like a very interesting exhibit. That quilting must have taken ALOT of patience! Suits the quilts perfectly. Wish I could see the exhibit…who knows?

One thing I like about the International Quilt Museum is that you can take a virtual tour. You can get really close and see the colors, patterns, and especially the quilting. It would be so nice to attend in person, but just not able.
I just checked out Katie Pasquini Masopust, and Sue Spargo. WOW Take the virtual tour. You can sign up for upcoming collections, and exhibits.
