Ol’ Glory

Introducing . . . the 2020 Prairie Moon Ranch Cowboy Christmas Stocking . . .

Ol’ Glory!

I’ve been wanting to make a boot like this since the beginning, and I finally got my act together. I went to visit my cousin a couple weeks ago, and he was wearing a pair of boots just like this — haha! I told him “good choice”.

Ol’ Glory makes #13 in the annual series of Prairie Moon Ranch Cowboy Christmas Stockings. I had thought I would quit after #12, but I can’t. I still have so many boot ideas, so I’m gonna keep on going.

The finished stocking measures 15″ from top to bottom, and 9 1/2″ wide at the bottom. The opening at the top measures 5 1/2″, and the narrowest part at the ankle measures 4 1/2″. The lining is only in the upright portion of the boot, and doesn’t extend down into the toe. You can enlarge or reduce the pattern to make your stocking whatever size you need it.

This year’s stocking and pattern are different from previous years. This is the first time I’ve made the stocking double-sided (the same on both sides). All the previous ones have a plain back side, and are only decorated on the front (altho you can reverse each pattern to make the stocking point whichever direction you need it to).

Also, I updated how I wrote the pattern, and used photos of the step-by-step process instead of illustrations. Since I’m only offering the pattern in PDF format, this makes it easier to view on-screen, and even when you print it out, it’ll still look fine.

The upper part of this stocking is pieced, but if you can find a red and white striped fabric with 1″ stripes, you wouldn’t even have to piece that part. The appliqué is minimal, and the embroidery is optional, so this stocking is really quick to make, even if you make it double-sided!

I made a version without the embroidery, and it still looks just fine. This one also shows the hanging loop I attached:

Ol’ Glory, along with all 12 of the previous Prairie Moon Ranch Cowboy Christmas Stockings, is available in my Etsy shop. It’s only in PDF version, since that seems to be the most popular, but if you need it in a print version, I’d be happy to make one for you and mail it; just let me know if you need it that way.

Also, for a limited time, I will have some kits available, but they usually go really fast, so if you do want a kit to make one exactly as shown, don’t delay! They’re in my Etsy shop, too. They come with everything you need to make the stocking, all wrapped up in a red bandana! And the pattern is included, so you don’t have to purchase it separately.

You’ve still got plenty of time to make one (or several) of these for all your favorite cowboys and cowgirls!
