October 350 Blocks Report

Posted on November 2, 2020 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Sorry I’m late with the report for October. I haven’t had a spare moment to sit down at the computer.

It’s been a whirlwind around here the last few days, because . . .

We adopted this fellow on Saturday:

And he’s a handful! His name is Tucker.

We decided we really DO need a farm dog. It’ll take awhile for him to learn everything around here, but he’s doing so well already — he’s a super smart little guy! And if you’ve ever been around a cattle dog of any kind, you know how high-energy they are — it’s a struggle to keep him occupied! Luckily, he adores toys, and loves to play fetch.

And then there’s the time change, and needing to go grocery shopping, and trying to finish up outdoor stuff before the last few warmer days are over. The list always goes on . . . I know you can relate.

But I had a great block-making month! By taking on the Moda Stitch Pink challenge, I got 23 blocks done for that. I fell behind a couple times, then got caught up, then finally at the end fell behind and couldn’t rally. But I will finish soon, and I have plans to make a second one as time allows. Here are 20 of my blocks all set together — I wanted to see how it was going to look. Super scrappy!

I also made an exchange block for guild for Janet. This block is called Alleyways. I think it’s a free pattern out there somewhere.

I made three more vintage Christmas ornaments. I’m trying to wrap up the Vintage Christmas Ornaments Quilt-Along over at Hazel’s Diary — only two more ornaments to go, and then finishing instructions for all the various options. These are Ornaments 9 and 10 for my throw quilt version. I’m late, as usual, posting Ornament #11, but plan to get it posted in the next couple days.

The truth is, there isn’t much that I’m not behind on. I can’t seem to get caught up or stay caught up on ANYthing. It’s frustrating and overwhelming and discouraging, but I keep forging ahead.

I made 26 more Churn Dash blocks, but I have a lot more to make before I can show you that project. And one more 9-patch got added to the stack.

And I finally get to count the pinwheel blocks I made. I don’t have them set together yet, but I’m done making blocks. I made 480 of them, and don’t let anyone tell you that it doesn’t take a good while to make that many!

So that gives me an October total of 534! My best month yet! By a long shot. And now it’s your turn. How did you do in October?

It’s time to report in with your October totals. I have the Project Page updated (finally), and our block goal for November is 30 blocks, for a year-to-date total of 319. Can you believe only 2 more months to go? I’ve got some work to get done!

Our prize winner for September is Pam D., who is up to a nice even 500 blocks so far this year!

November is going to fly by! Tomorrow is Election Day, it’s Thanksgiving month, winter is coming on, Christmas will be here before we know it, and we all have some stitching to get done, right? Have a wonderful November!

It’s been a slow month here – only 17 blocks! I have no idea what I was doing in October, but it sure wasn’t sewing much, apparently! Tucker is a handsome fella!

Hi Shelly, You went block crazy this month. lol I’ve often thought that just because a block is easy to make doesn’t mean it’s quickly made. I was able to get 71 blocks made in October.

  6. Darlene says:

WOW that is a lot of blocks! Congratulations on keeping yourself on track w/ all those challenges. yourChristmas ornaments are beautiful. I don’t have my list w/ block count I don’t think it was as good as last month. I got sidetracked with more mask making request.

Sadly only 11 blocks for October! 🌀 But, I have been sewing completed blocks into tops ready for quilting. Managed to make a few Christmas gifts. Oh and I quilted several quilts for friends. Only two more in the queue, then maybe I’ll get to quilt my own tops! You know how that goes.

  10. KT says:

Congratulations on your new dog! I’m so impressed with how much you got done this month and I love your vintage ornament block! Only 18 blocks for me this month–busy with work, and I made a pile of Halloween masks for my family and friends.

  11. Christi Bentley says:

Only 7 blocks for me this month. Fortunately I attended scrap busters and got 7 blocks for the Star Junction quilt done or I wouldn’t have any to count. I’m still playing with a new puppy, and I helped my daughter move to St. Louis this month, and my hubby put new flooring in the sewing room, so maybe that accounts for the small number of finished blocks! I’m looking forward to our guild retreat this weekend to hopefully get a lot more accomplished. Love your blocks!

  12. Well done to you, a fantastic block count for October. I got 20 blocks to add to my total.

  13. Barb Roberts says:

I managed only 40 for October, but somehow I missed the September blocks report. 🙁 So, I’ll report that here and you can file that wherever it goes. I made 172 blocks in September.

  14. Mary D. says:

32 for me. Lots of sewing done, though. A Halloween costume, a baby quilt from a panel, several masks, a small wallhanging for our guild challenge, and a whole lot of quilting. I am thrilled to say I’m all caught up with customer quilting!

I moved my sewing things out of the way when our daughter visited, and our son came two weeks later.
Thankfully, I finished my Halloween quilt top the morning of October 31 – my only October project!
Your new dog looks eager to be part of ranch life with you. So glad you were able to complete so many blocks this time. My total for October is 13.

  17. Linda Knight says:

Again not a great month for sewing but better than some. I made 3 more nurse’s caps, quilted and bound one small quilt, put together the rows of blocks and borders for another small quilt and made 16 blocks.

  18. Diane says:

WOW! That is amazing amount of blocks! I am in awe. I was delighted to get a miserly 30 blocks completed. 15 Kinship and 15 Bullseye. Getting my Kinship together and hope to have all the Bullseye blocks constructed and built into a quilt top.
Hoping for a productive and healthy November for all of you.

Wow! What an impressive number of blocks with all you have to do. Love your Stitch Pink quilt! Last week, I decided to make it using the pink grunge fabrics. After seeing what you have made so far, I want to make a scrappy Stitch Pink quilt also. Your Christmas ornaments are gorgeous! A perfect pinwheel block! Tucker has found a great home! (You have already added my October number.)

  26. Cathy Wight says:

Pretty good month. 135 blocks completed.

  27. Laura says:

    I’ve gotten 14 done.

  28. Peggy says:

Zero blocks again for me, but I did get moved to a warmer part of the country. The best part is the sunshine! Many household goods were delivered today. Had to leave much furniture behind, but not my fabric stash, or my sewing machine! Just not sire when I will have time to use them again. Lots of cleaning, painting and organizing to do.

  29. Paula Mu in NE OH says:

I got 53 blocks done this month. 22 blocks for some patriotic projects, 5 for the FaLaLa sew along (4 blocks plus a busy border), 22 for the Autumn Jubilee Row quilt and Christmas Cactus block made of 4 parts/blocks. Your Think Pink blocks are lovely. I wanted to make them, but my husband got home from the hospital today. He went in on the 16th, and had a open heart surgery on the 23rd. I sewed in the evening for therapy and did counted cross stitch during the day. How lucky we are all to have a hobby we love and feeds are souls during difficult times.

  30. dianne alsup says:

You amaze me in what you get accomplished each month – not just the quilting!!! I got 302 done – trying to get all my projects caught up (sure!!!) – have a new year starting soon!

  31. Stephanie says:

OMG that was a mega month. Well done you!
I had a lean block month, as I was in full on quilting marathon mode. However I did piece 5 shadow box blocks to extend a top, and made a 13 row TATW, which I will count as 13 blocks, for a grand total of 18.

  32. Rose Marie says:

I made 67 blocks this month. 25 of those were Cowgirl blocks. So darling although I am calling the quilt I put them in Cowboy quilt. I have a cowboy in mind to get it. And I set together 2 charity quilts from leftover scraps and blocks from old projects. This has been a great year in the quilt room!!

  33. Marlene Clausen says:

18 for October. Two of the 18 were the last two blocks of a BOW . . . so big and complicated they should count as 20! instead of 2. But that top is finished and on my QOV pile. It is gorgeous!! Spent half the month on quilting by day and embroidery machine work for Christmas at night. Am swearing off all BOW/BOM/Mystery quilts in 2021 and doing my own!! I say that every year and end up caving on at least one. Your count is impressive and, yes, cattle dogs are high energy and amazing. I had one like that when I was a teenager, required age to keep up with her!!

  34. Maxine E Euto says:

23 blocks for me this month. not too much done. better get my butt in gear to finish this quilt by Christmas…

  35. Joan says:

111 blocks completed this month. Printed the quilt pink patterns–so impressed on how many blocks you have finished. I admire the planning and ease that went into making those block patterns, so understand why you are considering making another. You will love this dog–we had one of the same temperament/breed–still miss him after more than a year, as he bonded so well to all in our family.

  36. Behind, also – maybe we should start a club. Mark me down for 24 blocks. Take a deep breath and do one thing at a time. For every thing there is a season…
    Blessings,

  37. Shelly Tucker is adorable! He is the twin to my Sheilagh who sadly has passed over the bridge.
I had a good month doing pattern tests, Blog Hop Projects and scrappy, snappy bags to donate to our food bank Christmas Hampers.
My block count for October is 321 blocks; a personal best I think.
That brings you total for the YTD to 1070.5!

  38. Judy Sovereign says:

Managed to make 69 blocks for oct. Got 3 quilted and one was the t-shirt for DGD. Was bad month for COVID here. But we are staying safe.

  39. Ginny says:

For me 2 blocks. I was busy but not making blocks. I did finish up several small projects by quilting and binding. Also bound some large project that were back from LAQ. Don’t know if anymore blocks will be done this years as I have several tops to get quilted.
Enjoy your new dog. I know in the long run you will be happy you have him.

  40. Shasta says:

Wow you’ve made a lot of progress! Tucker is cute and I am sure he will be a treasure!

  41. sharonG says:

    Sharon G

it was a good month. maybe belonging to a couple of structured quilt a longs helped–or not

  42. Debi F says:

Finishing up a wild ride of a quilt. Will be glad when it’s DONE, but every quilt has that moment just before it’s done, right? I managed to squeeze out 136 blocks last month. Plus sashing and cornerstones, and WHATEVER! lol

  43. Marsha Y. says:

Total for October is Zero!! Spent first part of month preparing for back surgery. Discharged after 5 days in hospital and recovery is going well, but slow. Hope to try sewing next week. Maybe I will have some blocks for November count.

  44. I got behind, and had a lot of life happening. I am trying to get caught up. I had a total of 11 blocks this month.

  45. Deann says:

October added 46 blocks for a total of 417. And four masks. If I have calculated correctly, I have used about 34 yards of fabric just mask making. I never before considered stash reduction using this method.

  46. Shirley Guier says:

I know I’ve missed several months of not responding . I know I’ve finished 3 quilts since August. Esher had 304 blocks then two other quilts with 48 blocks and a row rock bom and I’ll say 6 for it. Total of 358.

  47. Debbi says:

I have been sewing like mad (for me anyway) and have put together four quilt tops last month. Total 330 blocks! I can’t even believe it. Trying to make 14 quilts for Christmas. I love the vintage ornaments and ordered them all for a later time. Nice hand project for NEXT year. Keep sewing!

  48. Clara says:

    27 Blocks for October.
It was very busy in the sewing/quilting efforts but it was mostly spent cutting and sewing pieces to create a block. I saved the Stitch Pink blocks for the future. Such a great way to acknowledge the impact of breast cancer. Sadly, one of my friends was diagnosed and had a lumpectomy last week.
