October 350 Blocks Report

Posted on November 1, 2018 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

I’m a bit late with the report this month. I’ve been in the throes of Quilt Market prep. I’ll try to get some good photos and show and tell you more about all that later. For now, suffice it to say that I sank to a new low this time around — I actually went to town in my pajamas to catch the FedEx guy on time! My grandmother is probably rolling in her grave!

But . . . if it weren’t for Market sewing, I might not have any blocks to report at all this month. I did a LOT of custom quilting and made several projects for booth displays at Quilt Market and Festival, which happens over the next two weeks in Houston, Texas.

I ended up with a block total of 29 for this month. Ten short of the monthly goal, but I was a bit ahead anyway, so it’s all good. And sadly, the only one I can show you right now is this one additional block of my Yo-Yo quilt I finished:

My goal was (and still could be) to finish this quilt this year, but I’m not sure I can pull it off. I ran out of cut pieces, and had to go dig in my scraps — I still have nearly 1700 yo-yos to cut out, let alone the time it will take to make them into yo-yos and set them together! I’m not sure I have that much time to even sit down the rest of this year, but I’ll keep plugging away at it, and let you know how it goes!

So now it’s your turn! Let’s hear it — how many blocks did you make this month? We’re closing in on the end of the year quite quickly — can you believe it? This is when I start getting excited about seeing whether we, as a group, can beat our totals from last year!

Our block goal for November is 25, for a year-to-date total of 326. I have the Project Page updated, and all you have to do is comment below or contact me to let me know your new totals. I’m ready to hear what you all have been working on!

The prize winner for September is Susan S., who has a total of 731 blocks so far this year!

Now that the Market crunch is over, I’m hoping to be able to get outside some with My Cowboy and my goats, and enjoy what’s left of fall. And I want to work on some projects of my own — I hope you get to do the same. Happy stitching!

I have 102 blocks this month. I did a lot of hand piecing and applique while in the car during October. 🙂

  2. Amanda M. says:

I created 32 blocks this month, some for a Veteran’s quilt and the rest for quilts for 2 little boys. I sure hope my motivation shows back up as I have several quilts I want to get done before Christmas.

  3. Danice says:

I made 33 blocks in October. Also working on Christmas gifts.

  4. KT says:

Lots of gifty sewing going on at my house–birthdays, babies, etc. I got 49 blocks done in October. Time to start thinking about Christmas sewing!

  5. Love those yo-yos! I have a basket full of them, not sure if they will ever become a quilt. I did make a small pillow cover from them in colors to match the bed.
33 blocks for October…I’ve been on a steady path toward my goal, but I tend to get into trouble in Nov/Dec when I’m busy with holidays.

78 that I can share! I am still laughing about the pjs. Hope you get some rest and you time!

  7. Shirley Guier says:

I don’t think I responded last month. Sorry about that. I have done a lot of art quilts that aren’t really blocks but I’m going to say 30 blocks. All that work has to count for something!

  8. Wendy says:

33 for me this month. Not as many as I thought!

  9. Rose Marie says:

I managed to make 109 blocks this month. 4 of those are bead bags!! The others are my newest three quilts……..I never start just one, it seems.

  10. BettyK says:

I did four for the month (and that was at the end). My back is still giving me problems but… maybe… starting to mend. Anyway my total for the year is 378.

  11. Donna says:

I’ll bet seeing you go to the FedEx office in your pjs doesn’t hold a candle to the attire I’ve seen in person and online on people at Walmart. Sew on!

  12. Becky says:

I made 3, 100 HSTs blocks for this Life quilt I’m making.

  13. Maxine Euto says:

I only completed 5 blocks for October. I finished up a quilt top then LIFE happened. My youngest daughter who is teaching english in Japan had to undergo surgery for a herniated disc. The doctor said it was the biggest one he’s ever seen! My other daughter decided to join the Army and was off to Basic the same week as the other daughter going into surgery. So you can see why I was not mentally up to sewing! Daughter in Army is doing well. It is so hard not being able to talk to her when I want to. Daughter in Japan is also back to her apt and on the mend!

I made 67 blocks. One quilt top finished, bee blocks, progress on two other WIP’s and a bunch of coasters and zipper pouch’s for Christmas sewing. I’m counting two blocks for each pouch as I used scraps and pieced each one.

  19. katie z. says:

I made 20 rows for a brick quilt and 54 16-patches, for 72 blocks. That brings me a total of 1490 blocks for the year!

Well I did get to sew this month. I am counting 38 blocks. I made a scrappy brick quilt out of 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ squares. It is for a twin bed. The quilt top is done and now I need to finish the quilt. I have two more ready to start and need to work on memory quilt. I have been working on fixing up basement, so I can go and have room to lay out quilts. Hopefully, I will be up and sewing again very soon.

  21. Mary D says:

So glad to hear you survived market. You deserve some R and R. I did 25 blocks for October.

  22. Phillis Harding says:

I did 46 blocks for October. I am still trying to finish quilting these quilts before starting any new projects. Trying to tame cut and sort all my scraps so I can take off flying at the beginning of the year; found 2 shoeboxes full of yoyos I did maybe 20 years ago.

  23. Aileen says:

Oh Boy October did fly by. I made 19 blocks. The rest of my sewing was Christmas PJs and clothing for my granddaughter.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. It is coming in fast!

25 for October. Big blocks for big quilts!

  25. Marsha Yahl says:

Life seems to get in the way of my sewing time!!! Only 4 blocks this month, but I have been long arm machine quilting. Hope November is better as I have to get two quilts near completion before end of month.

  26. Clara Chandler says:

You are a very busy quilter!! My dream is to attend a Houston Quilt Festival.

17 blocks for this month’s sewing.

  27. Barbara B says:

    47 blocks completed in October.

  28. Judy Smith says:

40 blocks for me this month.
    Judy S.

  29. 19 for me. 359 so far this year. Few is better than none.

  30. Stephanie says:

I made 36 blocks in October.
24 were Heartstrings blocks, and the other 12 were tiny 5″ blocks with a bajillion pieces in each. Phew.

  31. Diana S says:

I love the look of yo yo’s but not sure I will make a quilt! Can’t wait to see yours. My month was spent more on binding again. If it weren’t for the Kaffe BOM that I am trying to keep up to date plus another gift quilt to a friend there would not be any blocks to report! I can happily say 20 blocks for the month!

  32. Diana S says:

Will try this one more time! I love your yo yo’s. Not sure I would ever make a quilt with them. Can’t wait to see yours. Once again my month was spent getting quilts bound and mailed to QOC for the Carolinas. But I can add 20 blocks to my total l made early in the month. 10 for my Kaffe mystery and 10 for another gift quilt.

  33. Cheryl Hannah says:

I did 94 in October, for a year to date total of 1171.

  34. Put me down for 68 blocks. What with scrap blocks, stars, houses and a sew along, I got that many done. I’m surprised. Blessings,

  35. Karen E. says:

I made 186 blocks during October. In a weak moment, I agreed to make four quilts in time for Christmas for a client, so lots of blocks for that. I wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving!

  36. Marilyn Holder says:

Total for October is only 6.

  37. Wendy O says:

Sure wish I had your excuse for being late! But, I”ve just been busy making clothes! uhh And 5 blocks for October 🙁 I could count the 2 blouses? Maybe? IF they count, give me a grand total of 9! (I want 2 for each blouse! lol They had set in sleeves AND buttons!)

If they tops don’t count, I’m good with 5 for the month. Hope to do a LOT better in November!

  38. I nearly forgot October report with it being so crazy here during October. 15 blocks for me.
