November 350 Blocks Report

Posted on November 30, 2022 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Well, how did your Thanksgiving month go? My block total is down a bit because I concentrated more on setting finished blocks together, which really needs to be done!

I ended up with 53 for November, the biggest part of those coming from my Laundry Basket Quilts Summer Mystery top! I have all the blocks done, and I’ve started setting it together. I’m about half done with the setting, which doesn’t show here. I try to do a little bit each day to move it along. I had hoped to already be done, but I’m too slow. I also exchanged my center block for a red square, which makes it look much better!

I also made a few more blocks for my Blast From the Past Mystery. Here are a couple of them. I’m still not caught up all the way.

I added another finished block to my pile of Improv Herringbone blocks. This quilt is gonna take a loooong time to finish up yet. I want to make it large, yet it takes a long time to make even one block!

I also made a few more blocks for some random projects, and will probably keep doing that as I finish up larger projects, using the smaller ones as leader/ender projects. It truly is amazing how much you can get done just by leader/ender-ing a project!

My best “finish” was getting my Down Home Darling top completely done! I’ll get some better photos of it once it’s quilted, but it’s anyone’s guess as to when that will be. I do love it, and am anxious to have it completely finished. It might just become my new snuggle quilt because I love it so much!

So that was my November! How about you? It’s time to report in with what you got done.

I have the Project Page updated, and our new block goal for December is 32 blocks to bring us up to the 350 goal for the year! I’m hoping to surpass 1200 personally, so we’ll see what I can get done. I’m actually still planning to finish more things rather than concentrating on blocks, because the new year is approaching fast!

Our prize winner for October is Deanna at Wedding Dress Blue! She has done a lot of fantastic sewing this year. If you haven’t gone to her blog to see what she’s been working on, you really need to. Her rescuing of scrap blocks has been phenomenal! She’s up to 674 blocks already, too!

I hope you all had a lovely, relaxing Thanksgiving weekend. I know we find plenty to be thankful for EVERY day around here. I wish you all a nice upcoming holiday season as well. I’m hoping to take it easy and fully enjoy it. Have a great December!

And don’t forget: The Final Countdown is coming up at the end of the year, as usual!

I have only managed 5 blocks this month.
But, at least I sewed something!

  2. Bev C. says:

I actually did 48 blocks. Enough for 2 quilt tops. I’m still in the process of finishing off quilts. I had 4 sandwiched and all ready to quilt. I finished one and am in the process of finishing the 2nd one. Still trying to catch up. Still have 2 more finished quilt tops that need to be sandwiched and 2 ongoing projects that will finish next month. Certainly making progress.

  3. kathy says:

Busy month at our house but I did manage to get 42 blocks done.

  4. Pam Desilets says:

I only got 20 blocks done, I did get two quilted and binding on. December might be hard for blocks, because I still have my 30 pairs of pjs to make. Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving!!!!! Happy seeing.

  5. Cindy Wienstroer says:

This month was productive! Quilted 6 quilts – 1 to go to get them done before years end. Did some odds & ends blocks to finish up for a total of 100. Trying to get things organized for when family comes for Christmas.

  6. Linda Knight says:

I quilted and bound 3 small quilts but didn’t get anything else done in the quilt room.

  7. Ginny says:

No blocks this month. Don’t know where the month went. Did finish some knitting & crocheting. Working on Christmas gifts but nothing to count as quilting. Maybe Dec will go better. Did have a great Thanksgiving with family😊

  8. In November, I made 42 blocks.

  9. Karen E. says:

I made 126 blocks during November for a YTD total of 2086.

    Happy December Eve, everyone!

  10. Debra Freese says:

Only 10 blocks for me, but lots of finishes and secret Christmas sewing.

  11. Suelynn Williams says:

Hooray for all you’ve accomplished, love the pictures of your blocks. This is catch-up because so often I miss the day(s) I should be reporting. July – 11; August – 14; Sept – 5; Oct – 2; Nov – 17. I try to do something related to quilting every day, miss lots of days, yet it is what I look forward to most.

  12. Sally H says:

96 blocks for November. Love your Down Home Darling top!

  13. Fran says:

Your Laundry Basket Summer Mystery quilt is beautiful! Love those Blast from the Past Mystery blocks. My favorite is Down Home Darling. What an awesome quilt!
Seems that I make fewer blocks each month. I had only 71, but I did sew binding on 8 quilts and got 2 quilts ready for the long arm quilter.

  14. Dianne D says:

That’s a big zero for me! Got lots of other things done/finished so I’m still a happy camper. Hopefully December will have more blocks …. But who am i kidding 🤪🤪🤪. It’s December!

  15. Amanda M. says:

I have only sewn 3 blocks this month and they were all String blocks that I use as my leaders and enders. I’m working on setting blocks together and finishing quilts to move them on to where they are needed. It sucks when UFO blocks multiply in their container so much 2 quilts are made out of them. I’m hoping for a more productive December!

  16. You did an amazing amount of sewing and it’s all beautiful. I did more this month, and I’m happy to see numbers rising, though I won’t hit near 350. Still, I did 33 this month, nearly doubling the last two months since I started sewing again. November Report. Thanks for doing this. I’m looking forward to seeing the totals for the year for all of us, and starting a new year in January!

  17. Judy Smith says:

I had a good month for me! Worked in my Halloween scrap bin on into November, then made a Christmas table runner. 53 blocks.

  18. Joan says:

30 blocks done and 2 quilts finished. I have been challenging myself to pick unfinished projects and work on them for at least ten days in a row. Currently that involves applique, which really slows down block production!!!
So cool to see your Down Home Darling done. I agree with what a satisfying project that was to work on–so much so that I started another similar quilt with 2″ centers and 1″ logs in all bright scraps. I will surround the blocks with white sashing, scrap cornerstones and a white border with a scrappy binding.
Like your herringbone block–after looking at the directions, I can see why that might take a while!
    Thanks for keeping us motivated.

  19. Shirley Guier says:

I had a real bad month. 7 blocks for the guild and none for me. I did get a sock monkey made for a new nephew.

  20. Marlene Clausen says:

13 for November . . . and those were “by accident!” I really didn’t intend to start anything new as I just have way too much on my plate; but, something happened! First, I was quilting a quilt I designed ages ago and started to wonder what it would look like if the blocks were turned and there was no sashing. Sew I just HAD to make 4 blocks to find out. Then, as I was filing, I spotted a Kate Spain Christmas pattern I’ve been longing to make for ages and one thing led to another and I made those nine blocks. They are very big and intricate as each one is different, has unique fabric and (I timed it) takes over an hour to piece. At least I finished the quilt I was working on when I was first led astray! Merry Christmas!

  21. Rose Marie Smith says:

I sewed 90 blocks this month. The big numbers were for quilts made from leftover fabrics. I did manage to work for a while on a quilt from a book I purchased at Missouri Star Quilt Company: a Disappearing Hourglass! Got sick and had to put that away for a while because I would have to think!! Leftovers don’t require as much thinking!

  22. Ceil Podzimek says:

I love all your projects, Shelly! So beautiful. I finished 40 blocks for November – all of them for my sister Rose’s quilt. It finally put me over the halfway mark for that quilt. Now I’m finishing quilting a Christmas quilt gift for my cousin and starting a few Christmas wreaths. Tis the season!

  23. Wendy says:

Only 38 blocks for me. I’m not sure what I did with my month, thought I was quilting more, but anyway, I had fun! Your Down Home quilt is glorious, I can see why you are anxious to get it finished!

  24. 141 for November for me. Working hard here but I think December will be very minimal–at least that’s the plan!

  25. Peggy says:

Continued work on blocks for the Seasonal Sampler by American Patchwork & Quilting. Also tried my hand at paper piecing some 5 point stars. 28 blocks for me.

  26. Judy Sovereign says:

Managed to get 70 blocks done. Got 2 epp done also. Worked on the hawiian block need to get that finished,

  27. Diana S. says:

love all your blocks Shelly. Once again not very productive. 8 blocks! 5 for an old tablerunner kit from Hordan fabrics and 3 mug rugs from a Shabby Fabrics kit! Yes some dog scarves but not many this month. Eeally hoping I can get back on track this month. Will finish getting Christmas decorations up this week. Don’t bake a whole lot as it is just the 2 of us. So just maybe some sewing time.

  28. Mary D. says:

I’ve been chasing squirrels, jumping from project to project, only finishing a deadline quilt, but making lots of mess and new starts. I’m reporting 146 blocks. A few fairly complicated, but many simple blocks using scraps. This also includes October because I forgot to report in then.

  29. KT says:

Love your Down Home Darling top! Someday I will make a log cabin quilt–it’s on my long list of things I want to make. I just need to finish some things first! Just 19 blocks for me this month. Not sure where all my time went, though I did make a set of curtains for my daughter’s room.

  30. Louise says:

It felt really good to truly get back into my sewing room this month. I made 102 blocks, finished one top, and made a complete quilt from start to finish.

  31. Becky Cogan says:

I made 36 blocks. Been busy going to 2 retreats. Hosting Thanksgiving with too many wonderful leftovers.

  32. Becky Cogan says:

I had a “later in life” moment. Forget about another project that I finished with 35 blocks so I actually had a total of 71.

  33. Paula R Mullet says:

This was not a good month for sewing or life in general. I only had 16 blocks: 3 letters to Santa, 1 Sherry McC. block of the month, 2 spicy blocks and 10 – 9 patches for a Sudoku quilt for my guild (I counted assembly as the 10th block). I believe my total is 1111, a nice number,

  34. Sharon Gratz says:

57 blocks for me in November. December will be very low….moving to our daughter’s house.
    SharonG/FL

  35. Shirley B says:

  36. Barbara B says:

I completed 112 blocks on November

  37. Tanya says:

Oh my!! I love that herringbone improv block. I might have to add that project to my list.😉 I made 192 blocks this month. Thanks to all the pladdish blocks I made for the back of my fall quilt. Gotta love a reversible quilt. Next on the list is to finish the hubby’s Mad Dash quilt top. He hasn’t decided what quilt to put on the back side yet. Hope everyone has a wonderful December.

  38. Deanna says:

Thank you so much for your kind words and the prize. I added 86 more blocks in November. I don’t know for sure what December will bring, but I have a few more I would like to finish (at least tops) before the end of the year.

  39. katie z. says:

I made 191 blocks, for 2121 blocks so far. I apologize that I’ve been inconsistent about reporting; it’s been quite a year!

  40. Kathi Benchley says:

32 blocks for me in November.
I can’t wait to see your Down Home Darling quilt quilted. Please show us!

  41. PAULA M MO says:

I did a few in the beginning of the month, the rest of the month, we have had the dreaded flu, not covid or the a/b varient , not strep and not whooping cough…we are low on propane. No heat down stairs, means I am no where in sight…I will take zero for Nov. and add them to Dec count… Propane delivery on the 7th!

  42. Marsha Y. says:

Only 16 blocks for November. I have been busy quilting and binding quilts. I love the quilts you are working on.

  43. Marilyn Holder says:

Total blocks for November: 44. Love your DOWN HOME DARLING and it will be my next scrap project after I finish quilting 2 quilts. I cleared my desk for quilting, so I will finish this one and quilt the next one which has been sitting for months. Meanwhile will begin cutting strips for the log cabin. Always thinking and working — keeps the brain working!

    173 blocks this month

    34

  46. Cathy k says:

  47. Carissa M says:

The log cabin top looks great! I have made a few Laundry Basket Quilts mysteries, and they are always fun. Lovely work. I finally got around to tallying all my blocks up from my retreat, and my total for the month was 306. Although I did find a mistake in the top the I finished at the retreat. At least it’s and easy fix!

  48. I am sew happy to actually have some progress to report. This month I finished 67 Cracker Blocks. Woo Hoo!

  49. Christi Bentley says:

A little late to the party, but I had 39 for November. Finished my Scrap Happy blocks, some 4-patches, and other miscellaneous stuff. Love your log cabin top.

  50. Delana says:

Zero! I was able to finish sewing on borders on two quilts.

  51. This may be my lowest number of blocks in all the years I’ve been keeping track–16 for November. I did finish two quilt tops though!

  52. Christine T says:

Zero blocks again for me. However I managed some sewing, making little drawstrings bags for a friend’s charity in Zimbabwe. Felt good to be able to sew something, and used up quite a few fat quarters. I love your Down Home Darling top – I’d want it for snuggling too!

  53. Barb Roberts says:
