November 350 Blocks Report

Posted on November 30, 2020 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

Wow! Only one more month left in this year — how did that happen so fast?

I still have a lot to get done before next year, but a month is not a long time to get it all fitted in!

I did all right on blocks this month, all things considered. I spent a lot of time at the longarm, and will be doing that again in December. But I made 51 blocks in November!

I made 5 more Vintage Christmas Ornaments.

I made 4 more scrappy 9-patches:

I made the final 7 blocks for my Moda Stitch Pink Quilt and got the top all set together, pieced a backing from yardage I had in my stash, and chose a fabric for the binding. So it’s all ready to be quilted, which could honestly be a long time coming.

I made a guild exchange block for Shirley:

I made two exchange blocks for Kayde:

I made another Churn Dash block, a Dresden Plate block that I turned into a pillow and forgot to take a photo of before I sent it off to its new owner, and 30 blocks for a new quilt I’ll be showing you later this week, so stay tuned!

And now it’s your turn! Time to report in and tell us all what you’re up to. I love hearing about it.

I have the Project Page updated as far as I know, so if you see something amiss with your numbers, please let me know so I can get it corrected.

Our prize winner for October is Ginny, who has 413 blocks so far!

Our block making goal for December is 31, which will land us right on 350 for the end of the year. The end of the year — it doesn’t seem possible. But here we are.

Altho I don’t do any decorating for Christmas, and very little baking (simply because we don’t need to eat that much extra), it’s still a wonderful season, and there’s a cozy homey feeling that goes along with it. I hope to get to slow down and enjoy it to the fullest. I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are headed into a wonderful season, and that you also plan to enjoy it to the fullest.

226 total for November – 208 HST for a scrappy Christmas lap quilt, and 18 chevron blocks for a table runner.

  2. Clara says:

61 blocks for November. Small HSTs made into flower blocks for a Mystery SAL were the focus this month. Binding a large throw was the other project. How I love to finish a quilt!

  3. 30 for November.
Nice to see all your work! Trying to get nine quilts made for my family for Christmas. Five done, just about to quilt number six. Trying to stay calm, but quietly whispering to myself….YIKES!

  4. Amanda M. says:

119 blocks for 6 different projects. I started another new project this month using up scrap triangles. I also got a customer quilt quilted AND 7 other quilts quilted. 2 were simply panels that I made into baby quilts, 2 were tops made by someone else for Project Linus, 2 were Veterans quilts and the final 1 was a PL out of my stash so I am relieved about all of those being done. It seems like every time I open a bag or a container I find more parts to more UFO’s so I hope my motivation stays home this winter so I can get caught up!!

  5. Rose Marie Smith says:

Only made 24 blocks this month. I am slowing down and doing more quilting and piecing together old stuff for charity quilts. I am slowing down because there is no use making more new quilt tops that would then wait a long time for a quilter. Sigh, isn’t this a strange world we are in!

  6. Beverly says:

I have not been doing well with quilting at all. I am trying to motivate myself, telling myself to work on my memory quilt. I only have a few more blocks to piece, before I start sewing them together. It will be great to finish it and get it quilted, as it is going to be our bedspread. I have not kept my own quilts to use, except one other. I did a few blocks, but I will wait to count them for the rest of the quilt. I am once again making masks.
I am trying to set goals now for each day, so I can get more accomplished. I am thinking I need to set a sewing day each week, or a few hours a couple times a week.

    Total for November: 20.
I cooked Thanksgiving dinner first time in 4 years after recovering from 2 knee surgeries including pain before each. I am thankful for being able to do that even though it took 3 days of rest to recover! The most cooking I’ve done in 4 years and I really do not like cooking a lot any more. I am not complaining; I just keep doing what I’m doing each day and walking 2 miles every day. Next year my goal will be more.

I am thankful for everything Prairie Moon does each day and each month. Prayers for you and cowboy.

  13. Fran says:

In November, I made 183 blocks. I love your Think Pink quilt! Since I am making mine between other projects, I still have 2 blocks to go. Mine is the grunge pink, but yours is such an inspiration that I want to make another one using fabric I have on hand.

  14. Sharon Gratz says:

28 for me in November. I’m concerned because I’m not making a lot of blocks to make into quilt tops for next year! lol But, I’ll make the 350 goal, so no guilt here. 🙂

  30. I only got 2 blocks done. My DH fell, was hospitalized, in rehab for 10 days the beginning of the month. The rest of the month was spent with Home Health therapists 2-3 coming in on the weekdays, and then Thanksgiving. So I have not been productive at all. Hope to do better in December.

  31. katie z. says:

I’m at 1124. Last month’s total was wrong (totally and utterly my fault), so while it looks like I didn’t do much, I really did!

I have 4 blocks, only because I enrolled in Mr Domestics online class. It was his improve flower, my center is way off…. I did manage to sew together some blocks from earlier in the year, I have 10 rows ready to put all together…small victory!

61 blocks for November. Piecing blocks for a Christmas UFO from 2008 and blocks for a new start. Also, finished a BOW from 2017, just need to sew on the label; made 10 fabric trays to commemorate 100 years of women’s ufferage and Kamala Harris cracking the glass ceiling with 2020 Election fabric by Barbara Brackman; and embroidered and trimmed 6 dish towels. November just flew by!

I managed to spend some time in the quilt room this month and made 88 nine-patch blocks with borders. I now have enough for a quilt top and have them laid out in rows and ready to sew together. I can’t quilt it, though, until I get the one on the frame quilted!

  39. Debra Freese says:

23 3” blocks for the Stay At Home QAL from the Temecula Co. which I made into a table runner and is already quilted. 26 blocks to complete the On Point QAL from Jessica Dayton which is ready to be quilted.
Also I found a bag of Orange Peel blocks while looking for something else, got distracted and before you know it they were seen into another table runner!

  43. Angie in SoCal says:

Put down 37 for me this month. It was a very hectic month. And I’ve started the new month with what I suspect is the flu – not COVID – no cough, no fever, no loss of smell. Just aches all over and queasy stomach as with the flu – even though I got my flu shot. Stay safe and sane.

  44. Debbi says:

For me it’s 106 blocks. Kind of surprised me, I’ve made so many backings and bindings that it didn’t seem like I had made blocks but actually I have made 3 quilt tops! I quilted and bound 6 quilts. Lots of other stuff has been neglected 🤪

I checked out the block page, some of those totals are impressive!

The exchange blocks you made are beautiful. Such homey colors.

  45. Shirley Guier says:

I didn’t get many blocks done this last month. I’ve been busy quilting quilts that I had finished piecing. I think I have about 9 blocks for the arrow rock bom and that includes the border. I counted the border as 4 blocks.

  46. denniele says:

58…I actually made some progress! One day I will have that entire temperature quilt to count…..soon!

  47. Marsha Y. says:

Zero! It’s been hard to get back in the mood for sewing since surgery. I have worked on some units this month for blocks, but no finished blocks to report yet. Put up a few decorations to get in the mood for Christmas! Hoping for a good total for December!

  48. KT says:

Just 21 blocks for me in November. Just not a lot of time for sewing these days, but I do what I can!

  49. Susan says:

I was gone the whole month of November, not far from you, in Utah! My total for October AND November was 9 blocks, making 221 total. Somehow, I doubt I’m going to hit my 350 this year!

  50. Raewyn says:

Well you probably thought I’d dropped off the 350 block list – no I haven’t. Farming and Family got in the way. I believe I haven’t reported since I made 1 block in July. Since then I’ve made 9 in August, 21 in September, 4 in October and 19 for November. I’ve challenge myself to make a block a day in December so that should boost my tall 🙂 Many thanks. PS Well done on your block making efforts!

  51. Pam Martin says:

187 for November. 3 quilts of valor tops.

  52. Michele says:

A VERY late report for November, but I had 46 blocks.
