November 350 Blocks Report

Posted on November 30, 2016 by prairiemoonquilts in 350 Blocks Project

It’s a good thing I went to a retreat last month so I could sew, because this month  . . . I made a whoppin’ ONE block!

Granted, it’s one big strip of this quilt that I’m counting as one block, but still. I was too busy at the longarm to do any piecing. I had to finish up lots of last-minute customer quilts, because . . .

On Monday, My Cowboy and I hauled my longarm machine, Ivy, up to the guys at Nolting to have her overhauled. She’s given me 4 years of hard service without so much as a teeny glitch, so I thought she deserved a spa day. She’s gonna get some new parts (don’t you wish it was that easy for humans?) and a good cleaning, but best of all, when she comes home, she’s coming home with a new frame to ride on!

My old frame had gotten completely out of whack, which made driving the machine on it a real trial, in some instances. As my friend, Lisa, would say: “Like dragging a dead body through Georgia mud!” I could never tell when I’d hit a spot that would cause me to make a bobble, and there was no way to fix it. The new frame will be all metal, completely level, at the right height for me, with all new wheels and rolling system, and have a couple of new features that I will be thrilled to have.

So I feel sort of lost this week, kind of floundering. I thought I would feel freedom, but no . . . I’m just feeling nervous. I still have a lot more of those last-minute customer quilts to get done before Christmas!

While I’m waiting for Ivy to come home, I’m putting the finishing touches on the room where she will be living. Furniture is going in:

Meanwhile, I keep making bigger messes elsewhere. This is my weekly cutting table update photo — not much progress here:

How did you do in November with block making?

Can you believe there’s only one more month of this year left?

We have a December goal of 30 more blocks, which will bring us up to the final 350 for the year that we’re after! I’m getting excited about seeing how our group totals add up for the year, and I’ve been gathering goodies for the prize packages, so you’ll want to stay tuned for all that.

So it’s time to report in for November, and I’ll do my best to get the Project page updated with all the new totals for everyone. If any of you, like me, are working on last-minute quilty gifts, we should have more blocks to report before the end of the year!

The prize winner for October is Katie Z., who is currently up to 789 blocks — woohoo!!

Happy stitching, and enjoy this wonderful month of celebrating the holidays — it really is a magical time of year.

I am still not the best (health wise) but sewing along when I can. I am above right now what I did last year so that is a yippy from me. This month I did 41 blocks. That gives me a total so far of 749. I would love to reach 850 or better but time will only tell.

  4. Sherry V. says:

I did not do much better than last month. . . I got another 5 blocks done.

I am hoping that I can get a number of blocks done in December; but I have my doubts.

Thank you for all your work in running this.

  5. Louise says:

I only made 48 blocks this month, but 36 of them are 6″ blocks with 41 pieces each. The other 12 are 5/8″ hexies with 12 pieces per block. So, I have made a lot of pieces, but not many blocks. 🙂

  14. Deanna says:

A much better November for me this year than last year: 34 this time. That brings the yearly total to 427. I might get in one or two more finishes for 2016 and will probably end the year around 450. Keeping track is fun!

  15. Put me down for 34, Shelly. And my cutting/quilting table remains cleaned off – mainly because I haven’t been in there much during the holiday weekend, and I was gone two days this week.

    You’ll get there.

  16. Cindy says:

Well seemingly I forgot to keep track this month. I can only come up with 22 for a grand total of 571 for the year.

How exciting for you and Ivy! It sounds like it’s a really nice overhaul. I didn’t do much this month – saved by some small blocks I did on one day. 19 blocks total for the month. Total of 763 for the year. I guess it’s a good thing I had some big projects earlier in the year!

Not as much time to sew in November due to lots of championship meets for my daughter. Still managed 34 blocks this month. December will be worse since I’ll be working on the new Bonnie Hunter mystery and the first several clues are usually just block components.
