News From the Studio, Episode 1914

Popping on today with some studio updates that don’t seem to fit in anywhere else.

I never did get around to showing you some of the finished projects I completed last year, so here they are, in no particular order . . .

A veteran’s quilt. This quilt was made from blocks that members of my guild made in one of our monthly exchanges. I won them in that month’s lottery, and finished them into this quilt for donation. I was a couple blocks short, so I had an Americana teddy bear panel in my box of panels, and it worked perfectly to add in the extra blocks I needed. This quilt was gifted to a veteran who is in the nursing home, and he sent me the kindest letter and the story of his service after he received the quilt. That made me feel really good — I don’t think I’ve ever gotten such a sweet letter from a quilt recipient before! And it’s good to know he loves the quilt and appreciates it.

This next quilt is called a One-Block Wonder quilt, but it’s not the type you normally think of as a One-Block Wonder quilt. I can’t remember the name of the book the pattern came out of, but all the quilts are made from one block. It’s how the blocks are arranged that make them all different. At one of our guild programs one time, several of us got together and each made one of the quilts so we could present a program on them, and this is the one I made. For the program, I only showed my finished top, but this past year, I finally got it quilted and bound and donated to our guild’s Comfort quilt stash.

This little quilt was made from leftovers from a couple of our guild’s past raffle quilts. While all of the fabric didn’t necessarily match, I made this scrappy little donation quilt with what I could manage to use up. My friend, Amanda, quilted it for me, and then it was also donated to our guild’s Comfort quilt stash.

And finally, a Mule-Lovers quilt! I had these leftover Log Cabin blocks, and set them together with the light sides all in the center, which made the perfect space to appliqué a silhouette of a mule’s head. I sold this wall quilt to a mule lover almost immediately, but have plans to make another one similar to it.

To cap off this week’s news, I will let you know that I listed several older pattern booklets in my Etsy shop in the Clearance section (at clearance prices). If you like wool appliqué, you might find some of them interesting. I’m whittling down my inventory, since I don’t vend in person any more.

And my book, Quilting for Hire, arrived on my doorstep early! I’m about to get caught up on shipping the pre-orders, so it’s no longer on pre-order status — I can ship them right now! It’s so surreal to be holding the book in my hands, it’s been so long in the making. I really do hope that it helps those who would like to quilt for hire, and saves them time and some of the headaches I went through when getting started. You can purchase the book HERE if you’re interested.

I’ll be back tomorrow with the wrap-up of The Final Countdown, so be sure and get your comments entered on those posts for your chance at the prizes!

Saturday, we’ll wrap up the 350 Blocks Project and find out who those winners are, and kick off the next round on the 15th. January is always busy around here! Happy Stitching to you all!

    Congratulations on your book!!

I believe the second quilt you showed us is Step’n Out from Singular Sensations – 14 great quilts from one simple block. Yes, it’s amazing how many different looks you can get from one block. I first made this quilt years ago from a pattern called the Five Yard Quilt from Mill End Textiles. I have seen it with other names in several other places since then. Nice donation quilt.

Enjoy following your blog. Veteran’s quilts are special to me as my husband is a veteran. He received one in 2020. Yours is beautiful!

  8. These are all gorgeous! It’s so nice to get positive feedback from a recipient. Love that one block wonder design…it’s always fun to play with the arrangements. Thx for sharing all these…as soon as I finish my countdown tasks…I know today’s the deadline :), I’m going to finally get back to my quilting.
